Then the Pentagon came back and said, "We want unlimited access, no restrictions. " Anthropic said, "No, we will not let this technology surveil Americans or control weapons that kill without a human deciding. " The CEO said, "We cannot in good conscience do this. Now watch the next 48 hours. " Thursday, Anthropic refuses. That same night, Sam Alman, the CEO of OpenAI, writes a memo supporting them. Friday morning, he says publicly, quote, "I mostly trust Anthropic, and I think they really do care about safety. " Friday evening, Trump bans Anthropic from every federal agency and blocks every military contractor from working with them. Pentagon official calls the CEO a liar with a god complex on Twitter. Trump calls them left-wing nut jobs on Truth Social. 24 hours. That is how fast you go from powering military operations to being blacklisted when you say no to this administration. Friday night, Sam Alman signs a deal with the Pentagon to replace Anthropic. 12 hours. That is how long his support lasted. Saturday.
