# How to Use Google Gemini in Bard - Including new prompts

Google Bard recently got a massive upgrade and is now powered by a new AI model from Google, called Gemini.

In this video, I’m going to show you the top 10 ways to get the most out of the new Google Bard with Gemini, I’ll include some prompts and I’ll also do a some testing against ChatGPT and Claude.

You can access bard at bard.google.com

Before getting starting, you can turn on Bard Extensions. This gives bard extra abilities. 

To start a new chat, you can click the new button and start typing your prompt. 

You can also upload an image or use the microphone to speak your prompt.

In the middle of this page, Bard will give you some starter prompts and it will help you draft the initial prompt. This is a great way to learn the right prompting structure.

Here are some useful additional prompts to add to your existing prompt: 
* Use clear and concise language.
* Avoid using jargon or technical terms.
* Break down your request into smaller steps.
* Provide examples if possible.

Google bard the AI chatbot from Google recently got the biggest update it's ever had a brand new AI model that is driving Google bard and that's called Gemini in this video I'm going to show you top 10 different ways to get the most out of Google bard now that is powered by Gemini and I'll include some prompts that you could copy and paste for all these examples and I also I'm going to do a quick test and run Google bard versus chat GPT on couple of these examples just to show you the difference if you're using chat GPT and considering Bard right now okay so you could access Bard at b. google. r in this on YouTube you already have that and you're already logged in right over here so to get started the first thing I want you to do is go to this extensions Tab and if you've never used extensions before Google bard basically has these things to give it more abilities and more information so right now there's five of them and Google flights hotels and maps now those are really related to travel but these two I want you to turn on here just this slider turn to Blue Google workspace I'm going to show you some examples that makes Google bard extremely useful I use it mainly for this Purpose with this connection and this YouTube extension and Bard recently got YouTube Vision so not only can Bart see what the transcription of a YouTube video is it could actually see the visuals inside of a video as well I'll show you some examples there okay so to start a new chat with bar just press this new option right over here and this is going to bring you to the homepage so your prompt is going to go over here on the bottom you could also upload images I'll show you how that works and you could also click this microphone icon to speak your prompt into Bard couple options also worth looking at under settings here you have light mode as well so right now I'm on Dark theme that's why mine looks like this but that is an option and you could respond once it's complete and I'll show you what public links are in a few minutes and all your activity shows up under B activity if you want to decide to delete anything that will take place from this tab now right in the center this is really useful you'll see these starter prompts this actually crafts the perfect prompt for you for Bard so if I click on one of these product name ideas look at how it's crafted a full prompt for me come up with a product name for a new app and then you put in what the app is all about in this section that is highlighted for you and then it shows you this part of the prompt you are a professional copywriter skilled at writing compelling and persuasive marketing copy so if you look over here this is really useful right now I just have to replace this and I got the perfect prompt now it doesn't have lots of examples typically every time you refresh it's only giving you these nine but a great way to learn how to correctly prompt these models these AI models like chat GPT Bart has it just built into it really easy to get started at least with these few options now let me show you this prompt what AI model is powering Google bard because I want to make sure you also have Gemini that's the model behind the scenes that's actually powering this chatbot and right here Google bard is currently being powered by Gemini so you could see what models were used before Gemini these are the different large language model AIS Palm 2 was the latest model and now is Gemini now I should point out as I'm making this video Gemini is going to have three different models right now the middle model is called Gemini Pro and that's what is being used right now and then they're going to release another model called Gemini Ultra and it is not clear I'm going to ask it actually I said is this Gemini Pro or Gemini Ultra so if you're watching this later on in 2024 it's going to be Gemini Ultra likely and then I'm going to ask it is Gemini Ultra free and it says it is not clear if Gemini Ultra will be available for free and what price point it will have so right now we have access to Gemini Pro there is something else called Gemini Nano which is not going to be as powerful as these two other mod models so what I'm testing right now is going to be really Gemini Pro versus chat GPT with all these different prompting but as you could see the very easy way to get started with Bard is this simple research mode where you could kind of see where he's getting some of this information and a few different options you have underneath each chat so this thumbs up and thumbs down is just for training Bard but over here double check response from Google right this is made by the biggest search engine makes sense that they have built Google search into it and it's going to do a quick search and it says check complete and then I'm going to say understanding the results and it says right here Google search has found the content is likely similar to the statement and this is a great factchecking tool that no other tool has with one click right you usually have to prompt for the other models like CH GPT to go to work and do checks okay the next example I want to show you is using it again for research but this time I'm going to compare it to chat GPT and I'm going to get some resources directly

from the web to show you exactly what that does in the background so I said explain how large language models work in simple terms I'll press enter there and I'll type in the same thing inside of GPT 4 this time this is a paid upgrade so it's not quite a fair comparison but I wanted to show you what's best available right to Second which right now is gp4 claw 2. 1 and Google B so let's see and this again powered by Gemini so it says imagine a giant Library filled with books so it's taking kind of a really simplified approach one of my favorite options with Bard is this right here view other drafts and it gives you three different drafts and you could quickly choose all three so in the other models you have to recreate so let me go to chat GPT here large language models like the ones you're interacting with work by analyzing the large amount of text from books websites and other resources and learn patterns associated with language so this is not bad this is pretty simple but this kind of took a more creative approach and in all three cases it starts by imagining you're learning so I give a very practical example in my personal taste I like what Bard gave me in this very specific use case but when it comes to research typically I like these models that have better internet access so chat GPT has internet access through Bing search Bart Google search so I'm going to ask bar to give me three different sources so if I want to do more research or use those links and here's one of the downside of Google bard in my first recording of this video I said give me three sources and he gave me Three Links now I said give me three sources and it won't answer a very simple question so this is something that just usually doesn't happen with chat GPT but it happens a lot with Bard so let me see give me three sources now chat GPT is going to do the research with Bing it's going to show you what search term is inputting into Bing is doing this all in the background it took a few seconds I did a quick search and came up with this let's see if it gives us direct links to those sources okay gave me a pretty long answer but it did give me these sources so Wikipedia and data stacks and I could click on any of these to open those pages even though I love bar for search I don't know why my follow-up prompts a lot of times come across this kind of a result so you have to test this out again sometimes I could do 10 of these and get an answer every single time but right now I was doing this live right with a brand new chat and this is the result I got so I wanted to keep that in the video to show you some of the downsides even with Gemini right now okay the next use case I want to share with you and I'll share with you an exact prompt because this prompt is not going to get you that good of a result right now inside of board or chat jpt but I just wanted to show you if you just use a simple prompt Without Really knowing how to craft a prompt what kind of result you're going to get so I said just write me in email copy to my subscribers about the end of the year sale I didn't give it any context about what kind of thing I sell but let's see what happens let's put the same one inside of chat GPT I just want to show you the default tone these models have so with Gemini let's look at how it writes okay so we got Bard it says get ready for the holiday sale filled with cheers and savings I'm thrilled to announce okay so you could see the tone he gave me the subject it put the placeholders here so I could actually put something that makes more sense and let's see what chat GPT did in the beginning as we B farewell to another amazing year we'll thrill to announce our exclusive end of the year so by default both of these models actually take the more promotional approach where I think is just over the top every single time so let me show you the prompt I like to use for both of these it looks like they both kind of gave me a similar results but as I read through more of the rest of this and I have some custom instructions so yeah actually knew who I was and pulled that information here in the signature line Bart doesn't have these things called custom instructions so I have to fill in the blanks here so hopefully they roll out custom instructions with uh Bard which is now included in chat GPD that's when you instruct the chat GPT model at the account level so then he knows that every time he gives you some kind of feedback I'll make a different video about the custom instructions I use okay so this prompt I said write a factor on concise email about upcoming sales event but this is what I usually add at the end without using promotional language so this one is just kind of factual it's not trying to be salesy I don't like to write emails like that I think every time I get an email that sounds like this I could tell immediately and AI wrote it so usually I do write kind of a prompt that ends with without using promotional language and he still is excited says we're excited to announce a special sales event but it didn't say all those kind of promotional type language get ready for a holiday

### Segment 3 (10:00 - 15:00) [10:00]

sale filled with cheer right it didn't talk like that at all and same thing with chat GPT and in this case it looks like I got pretty similar results out of both now let me show you another thing inside of Bard that's one of my favorite option that Bard has so over here if you go to the very bottom it has this option right here to modify your response in one click so typically inside of other models like chat GPT you have to say give me a shorter format give me a longer format this could do it in one click make it more simple more casual more professional right so if I want to a simpler one right here I click it and it goes to work and if you compare the speed chat GPT 4 doesn't come anywhere near the speed of Bard is extremely fast it's almost as fast as GPT 3. 5 the free version so there we go now I got a real simplified version we're having a sale now you could see this made it so matter of fact that it might not be great so then I could find a balance between the two different prompts and I usually say split the difference and it will give me something that it did in the beginning where was all promotional to this one that is all fact-based and short it'll give me something in between the two so again writing email copy doing research analyzing text all those are very useful option inside a Bard and as you could see I'm getting some really good results here in my testing the next option I wanted to show you which again barred exceeds every other language model is the ability to actually use YouTube and find information inside of YouTube videos now they have the benefit of owning YouTube yoube right Bard and YouTube are owned by the same company Google so if I search here to find me a YouTube video very quickly it's going to find me the videos that I asked for it usually lists five videos and you could just watch them from here or you could just say recap the first video and give me the recipe and it's going to go to work very quickly so you could avoid watching the whole 10-minute video here and just get the recipe and the instructions from here and you could also ask it a lot more to dive deeper into that video and I'll put some resources in the description prompts you could copy and paste and I also made a whole video about this Vision capability of looking at YouTube videos just make sure by the way that the extension it's using that extension right now that was turned on that I showed you in the beginning on the extensions tab to get the most benefit out of looking into YouTube videos okay this next tip is going to be probably for most of us one of the most useful things we could do with any Ai and it's really now only available inside of Bard so if you go to extend make sure you have this extension turn off for Google workspace Bard can actually look into your email account as long as you're using the same Gmail account you're signed into it could analyze things inside of your Google Drive so your Google Docs Google Sheets extremely useful option let me show you this I just wrote how many emails did I get today is accessing my Google workspace with that extension and it found all the emails that I got over here and this is my personal email address so I'm just blurring some of these subjects but it just gave me the 10 emails that I've received so far today and the ones I've deleted obviously it does not know about those so it found the ones that I still have in my inbox in that Gmail account then I could say is there anything urgent or does anything have a deadline and then again it could access my email and it could answer me that very quickly and it doesn't have to be just for today this will just look at anything that's in your inbox if you have a thousand emails in your inbox it could actually analyze that for you and I'll start a new chat it could actually do the same thing inside of Google Drive I said what's the latest document I made inside of Google docs give me a one sentence recap and looks like here's the latest document something Andrew shared with me about Runway so I could click on it just from here I could get a bigger summary I could do any prompting that I would do typically inside of here with this document now so you have your entire Google Drive at your fingertip your entire Gmail at your fingertip and one more thing I want to show you when it comes to Google Drive and I'm going to do this with a combination of another tool we have access to which is right here upload an image so I'm going to upload an image this has some Vision capabilities with Gemini Ultra is going to have a whole lot more but right now let me upload an image and I'm going to ask it what is this image and give me the data in table format and chat GPT also has this capability with chat GPT Vision so inside of GPT 4 we could also do the same kind of thing but let me show you what happens when I get the table format here and it's created this table format again I have other drafts if want to see what the other drafts look like there we go I like this one a whole lot more and look at this option right here where you create tables you could press export to sheet connect it to your Google Drive and it will create a Google sheet for you that you could edit and I could open the sheet from here and we got that table format here we can make any edits to it adjustments and this is automatically saved to that same Google Drive that Bard is connected to extremely useful option as well and I

have a bunch more prompts that I added in the description too to interacting with Google drive documents and emails as well and the very last thing I wanted to show you right here is over here if you press settings you have this option called public links so you could create public links from here and share any type of research so let's say I had a 20 message back and forth conversation and I got to the point of what I was researching I could create a link that I could share with anyone else and the way you make those is right here share and Export click that and you could share this to your own Google doc and it'll take all that text and put it there draft an email from here or you could press share and then this is going to generate a link for you and it has other abilities here like this AI tool to generate the headline for you and you create a public link from here and then you have this public link and you could go ahead and share this with anyone or on other social platforms and if you want to listen to your response this is something that only the mobile version of chat GPT currently has you could press listen the image is a graph of the world population growth from 1700 to 2100 and they have significantly improved the voice here so it actually sounds really good if you press this option to play the voice for you now I recommend watching The Bard YouTube Vision Video next that shows you all the different things you could do inside of Bard with connections to YouTube videos really useful I hope you found this video useful and I'll see you next time
