## Транскрипт

### Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00) []

The system sucks. This job sucks. Sometimes I wish you would just hold me in contempt, your honor, so I could get a full 24 hours of sleep. One lawyer's breakdown inadvertently shined a light on a government that breaks the law with impunity, ignores court orders, and breaks the soul of even the people trying to do their best. Miss Lee was a lawyer for the Department of Homeland Security who volunteered to temporarily work as a special assistant US attorney for the Department of Justice, handling immigration cases during Operation Metro Surge. She was new, untrained, and immediately signed to at least 88 cases. Lee admitted that ICE doesn't think it has to follow federal court orders because they're used to their home court advantage playing in courts where immigration judges are referees. She said she sent emails with big bold font to her boss and a boss as well as others. She CCed supervisors. She threatened ICE officials with contempt, but in the end she had no real leverage. She said quote, "I am not white and my family's at risk as any other people that might get picked up too. So I share that same concern and I took that concern to heart. I would love to undo all this stuff because no one wants to be in jail. And actually, honestly, you know, being in jail a day to get to catch up with sleep is not bad right now with all the hours that I put into this job. It's clear Julie Lee is a victim in this situation. She's a victim nonetheless.
