Welcome everyone. Just double checking everything is working fine for the stream. I can see many of you are in the chat already which is awesome. I'm just going to get things set up and then we can get started. Okay, great. Let me know please in the chat if everything seems to be working fine sound my screen uh you can see behind me all the amazing work that we have the entries for this contest so let me just know if you can hear me see me and most importantly my screen that's where we will be reviewing everything great thank you so much for that I can see many familiar names some of our students, some pro members, some past contest contestants from previous contests that we've done. We actually started doing these contests this year and this might be the only one for 2025. Uh we still might do one more. We'll see how much time we will have for uh the rest of the year. But this is probably the most exciting uh contest because it is something that we actually want to use. So it's a design that we need for our design sprint event which is going to happen in January 2026 and it's something that we again started this year. So this was also something a new tradition that we are hoping to keep running and it was an amazing event. uh three weeks this January and um actually almost four weeks with the reviews included. Um some of you who are here in the chat may have been taking part in it. If you have you can just write a little bit about your experience so others will know how it felt. But essentially it's an event online where we learn from each other. We work on projects together, all kinds of different creative projects. And um we spend a lot of time on these projects. So it's usually three workshops per project, each workshop around 3 hours. So I end up working on a project order each of the projects as well myself. So I usually for each week I ended up producing a sort of final artwork that was uh that would have been I would have been able to present it to a client and um the uh yeah whoever took part in it um just I was really happy with the results like I could see the improvement throughout that couple of weeks that we spent together and many of the students who took part in it said that it really encouraged them to do more and to they got really motivated for the rest of the year. It's like a fuel And that's why this event is quite special and I really wanted to um to be at least as good as as this year's when we do it next year. And one thing that was really missing for this event was the branding because we haven't really thought of branding it. It was more like an experiment but because we are planning to continue doing it, it should have a very solid recognizable branding and identity that is like there's obviously has to be a good logo to begin with but then essentially a whole brand guide would be required in the future. Now for this contest that was the task. So, I'm going to just show quickly um the brief whoever hasn't seen it already. So, we wanted to create obviously the logo name has to include design sprint 2026 and it needs to be um obviously there's a lot of information here. I'm just going to maybe mention the most important things. So the logo has to reflect creativity, growth and professionalism.

professionalism. And it has to work both digitally and in print formats. Has to be versatile. So it can it needs to be adaptable for different uh formats. It needs a modern, bold and inspiring feel. And uh yes, the date 2026 obviously something that needs to be exchangeable for future events. And um you can include a symbol that rep represents design and creativity uh or you can create a clever word mark. And yeah, keep it fun, simple, and use warm colors. So these were the main things. Now we mentioned that AI generated logo designs will be not accepted. It is a really hard thing to filter out, but I feel like I still can tell if something is AI generated or not, especially when it comes to logos. And that's why it was very important to see some sketches and the thought process that went into the project. So when in terms of judging the submissions and the entries that's also going to be important that I obviously don't just look the final result look at the final result but also the presentation of the entire thought process and how you got to a design and um yes that was mainly it and then obviously some inspiration that we chose [clears throat] which shows that we like playfulness. And we like um we like obviously colors or vibrant colors and that's something that we were thinking of using uh for this event. And yeah, some uh Vitty and Clever designs are here as well um included in this inspiration board. And by the way, this was the banner, one of the banners that we used last year. So, it does have a very subtle hint at um the racetrack where sprinters would run through, but I don't really like that direct association. So, I wasn't using like a person running, although I saw some really good ideas about that. So, when I created this banner last year, it was a very quick one. I didn't really spend too much time on it. The little rocket is something that we've been using for our branding for quite a long time. So that was an obvious one. And that's something that again I've seen several people uh reiterating and creating different concepts for that and some very clever ones on the rocket one. So I'm going to uh talk about that more in detail and yeah a few other like examples of the banners that we used for promoting this event last year. So yeah, um, lots of pictures of me and then obviously that's pretty much it. So if I just jump back a little bit further back here. Yeah, that's the brief and now we can jump back to the entries. So we got close to a hundred entries and I am hoping that I can get some feedback some form of feedback to everyone but it would take a very long time to go through everything in detail. Um we review the work of our pro member students on a monthly basis and usually around 20 work takes me around an hour and a half to review. So if I want to do an in-depth review, that's roughly the amount that I can do within an hour and a half. So for something like this, we would need I don't know six, seven hours maybe to review it properly. So yeah, unfortunately you can't expect me to go into that detail on the feedback. But whoever uh is interested to learn more can always join our community um which is free and you can ask your questions there. So in case you miss or your work is not reviewed on this live um live stream then just join our community and just go on our website create a student account it's completely free and then you can join the community as well something that automatically you will be directed there anyway and yeah that's again a free place where you can ask questions and then you can say okay I would like to get a little bit more feedback on my work and I if I have time I will try my best to do that uh answer there. All right. Now, um I am just keeping an eye on the chat. I can see more people joined. It's awesome. We have um we have quite a lot of people. Yes. All right. So, now let me first focus on the ones that stood out. I didn't really uh like select or separate the work on

my board based on how likely they will win. Uh I want to keep that a little bit of a mystery until we actually get there. But for now, I would like to talk about the ones that stood out to me and that feels or has some interesting ideas and and uh like strong concepts. I'm just going to test if my brush is working. Yeah, it's working. Good. Okay. Now starting from uh maybe let's start from this side here on the right. So we have a nice design by Virgin Drapier. And if I ever start reviewing someone's work um who is here on the chat or in the live event, just drop a line in the chat so I know that you are here and that way I can maybe ask some questions in case you are here. Um so this one is very nice and colorful and I'm just going to show the full page and then the second page as well. So there's two different designs here and the first one is using various formats already showing the um versat versatility um that we can use it either without the lags in one line or with the legs or even have the full mascot the little pencil character used separately. So, this is a very good way of thinking for a logo, especially when the brief asks for flexibility. Um, and I like the fact that the mascot can be combined without showing the entire mascot, but it still makes sense. So, that's a really good idea. So, once again, if I zoom closer, um, the legs combined with the text I like. Although the proportions of it, I'm not 100% sure about. I probably would have made the legs smaller. at least maybe around this size because I still would want the text to be at least taking up maybe a bit more than 50% of the full entire size. So, right now I feel like the legs are a little bit too dominant for this format. Uh but yeah, smaller legs I think would work really nicely. The date is too small. That's something that needs to be addressed. And the the inclusion of these colored letters is a good idea, but I'm not sure about the colors. Although the color palette is nice, but when it's used on the text, it gets a little bit hard to read, especially like this color on white doesn't have enough contrast in my opinion when we look at it from a distance. So like here when we look at it in small that one is almost lost. So it's very hard to see and you have to always think about like the first two letters of a word and the last two letters of words are the most crucial ones because especially if long words our eyes immediately just focus on these initial and final uh letters within a word they have to be very legible even more legible than anything else in between. So here already the second letter of the first word is hard to read. That's not ideal. Um this concept is also interesting with the writing and the pencil in the middle separating the two words. It's also I've seen this in many entries when the two words are stacked on top of each other. We have the pencil connecting them. So the two eyes in design and sprint are connected into one. Here it's also forming a pencil which is quite nice. Again in terms of proportions 2026 is tiny. That needs to be much bigger. So if I just zoom closer um I would make that at least filling in this gap here. So much bigger. Um right now it's too small but I like this one as well. Uh, I probably like it more when it's staged on top of each other, but the horizontal version could work as well. And in this case, I might just use the pencil at the end as if it's like finishing drawing it instead of dividing the words. I'm not sure about that positioning there, but when it's stacked, it's quite cool to be in the middle. And I love how this pencil is used as a pattern for these mockups. So yeah, this is really nice. So both of

these are strong. If I had to choose, I probably would choose the one with the pencil. I mean the second one from for Virgin's work. Um so not the mascot with the legs, but the second one which was uh like the drawing. But yeah, let's move on to Latitia's work. And I am just going to keep an eye on the chat. Make sure that I can see what everyone's saying. Yep. Okay. Um, so moving on the second one, Latitia's work. Here we also have some interesting elements. So, Letia worked on this brain mascot. Uh, she thought of using a brain as a mascot. And, uh, it's quite fun how the mascot is riding a pencil rocket. I really like that idea. Um, so there's a lot of combinations here and we can see the sketches. It really means a lot to have these sketches in the presentation. um because this really helps me to see where the ideas came from. And sometimes if your final result is not polished perfectly, I might still see something in your sketches that will make me think, okay, this is actually the right direction. It's just not been finalized the way that I would have done it. So yeah, sketches are always very important to include. Um and I like the fact that I don't see hundreds of sketches. instead just a few selected ones that were already considered um and used in the project. I love this font, Brave Spirit Regular. Really nice and it works really well. It's legible, playful, and bulky, so it really like stands out. So, yeah, really nice one choice. And I love the mascot the way it turned out. I probably would make the lines a little bit thicker in the inside at least for the eyes and the mouth. But even the other little details, I think they could have been a little bit thicker. That's just one issue that I have here that I feel like the outline is too thick compared to the inner lines um the detail lines. And to be honest, the rocket pencil is something that I feel like is one of the coolest combinations of the iconography that's been used uh in this uh contest. I'm not sure about the brain mascot. The brain character feels a little bit too I don't know scientific, but the the pencil combined into a rocket, I think that is really cool. So that represents that it's a it's like a quick way of learning. And I also like the angle of the pencil that is going up that represents growth. So yeah, there's aspects of this that I really like. Um this one with the cloud coming out of the brain. Not 100% sure. Again, I guess it's the brain is the rocket, but that can be misunderstood. That cloud for a mascot for other things as well. I'm not 100% sure about that one. But uh I can see this mascot doing all kinds of funny things and it looks like a really fun character. So I like how it turned out and these few mockups t-shirts are looking good. Todd Bank looking nice. Uh and yeah, so really nice work from Letia. Well done, Latitia. Um Latitia is one of our uh pro members students. So really nice work. Uh, moving on. Marta has been in previous contests. I believe at least one, but maybe more than one. And um, but correct me if I'm wrong if Mart is here in the chat. This is another really cool design. I love the handdrawn quality to the mascot. Um, the pencil running. Again, a good combination. I like this. a pencil u obviously is perfect for this event and uh and the run is still there. The font is a little bit harder to read. I believe it's uh was uniquely created for this. So Marta designed the font. So it's not an actual font. Um I find it a little bit hard to read. Um it's not bad but it would need refinements. So that

just a few things like if I zoom closer I can just point out why I feel like um it's a bit hard to read. It may be just I mean it could be just the uh PDF that is making this line or gap between these two shapes but that should be connected or if there is a line it should be a little bit more visible. Um, when you're designing custom fonts, I feel like, and then that's a common mistake I've seen with many uh entries, you should still have a unified feel to the characters. And that's not just the let's say the corner radius or radi on all the letters, but it's also things like the gaps between details. So for instance we have this gap here right between these details and then we have a much larger gap there. So these two should be similar uh in size or height and I would actually use probably this gap and I would use the same gap here between the S just to create a little bit of div division and I would use the same gap again there. Um, and yeah, so reflect the details that you include as much as possible to unify and harmonize your characters. That's very important. Otherwise, it just feels very ad hoc and um messy um the text when it's handmade. So, yeah, try to unify them as much as possible. But I love the handwriting. Uh Marta's handwriting. It's really cool and I can see that working for this um for this brand. So yeah, really nice handwriting. I like it and I like the sketches the way they are included. The colors are great. I like the variety of colors. Very playful. Looks great on the tote bag with those little icons. I'm just going to zoom a little bit closer just so every can everyone can see it. But uh yeah, I can see this working. logo really working for the event. So yeah, really good work Marta. Um, nice presentation, not too long, to the point, but [snorts] uh, still shows the entire thought process. Okay, now uh, let me move on to the next one. So we have Torikica's work, Tornika. I don't think we've seen Tornika in previous contests yet from Georgia. Um, and we have some sketches to begin with. And then we have two sketches that were refined out of which the hand this like hand that also looks a bit like a either melting a bit or it could be even seen like a palette with colors on it. It also reminds me of that. But it's holding a um a tool that is both a pen on one side and a pencil on the other side. So it creates a nice little crest even though there is no frame around it but it has that u unified feel to it. So we can see the outline forming like you can imagine if there was something a shape around it would form a nice crest. Good balance between the elements. Lovely color choices. I like these subtle colors and it looks good uh on darker backgrounds as well. Uh overall a very nice neat design and the only feedback I would say for this one is that the typography feels a little bit too generic. Something that I don't know it's it maybe it's the the fact that design sprint I mean it's a font that I recognize. Maybe that's the reason. But uh it doesn't have to be a customdesigned font, but it just feels slightly generic. So, not a bad font choice. By the way, I'm not saying that the font is bad, but yeah, the font itself feels a little bit too generic. The symbol that was created I really like. Although, I am not 100% sure about that melting effect. Like, I'm it doesn't really make sense. like what does that mean? I'm not sure. It makes me think, which is good, but uh I haven't actually concluded what could it mean. So yeah, it could be a bit confusing. Um but yeah, anyway, it's a good direction. I like it. So Tornica, good job. Uh Paulina, let's see Paulina's work. Here's the PDF. Um, Paulina is

we also have a very nice presentation. I love the introduction and then as the idea as the idea of this project and why u to sorry uh Paulina chose to work on this project. There's already a few sketches and uh these are supposed to be me or a character inspired by me. Um always wearing the hat and really cool illustrations. We can clearly see uh let me just double check the name. Yeah, Paulina. I can we can clearly see that Paulina is very good at characterization, stylization or abstraction and it comes across these characters really well. Uh probably one of the coolest mascot designs out of all the entries. Uh both this one I really like and then there is also I believe actually this is the only one that was like refined and turned into vector format but I actually like a few of these other ones here as well. Um and I can imagine the same little guy this or girl uh this character could be doing all kinds of different things again like crazy things. uh jumping around, holding a pencil, riding a pencil, so on so forth. I love the font as well. I like um I like the pairing of the font with the numbers and the main text. And yeah, in general, very good proportions, good colors. Uh really, really nice design. I like this format as well where [snorts] the character jumps in front of the text but still in a way unified together. Um yeah, so really nice presentation as well by the way. Great work. Really good work. So let's move on to Aion. Aon I hope I pronounced that name correctly. And by the way, there's loads more here to go through. So, I'm trying to um cover as much as I can. Mhm. So, here what I like is how the text is very like shape like it creates this angled um blocks combined together. However, the main problem with this, it is very hard to read. So, legibility really suffers. But the idea is good. I like how those lines are all equal. Remember what I said, there is uni unification or like harmony between the letters here. They really feel like they were designed as a whole. Uh, and I also really like how the pencil creates like almost like a lightning icon. So, it's not like a straight line down, but it's split because the words are not aligned. That's quite smart. And I also like the 2026 being um in a similar shape with the same angle. So, really nice unification here. Not sure about these lines. I probably would get rid of those um all of these around the edge. I don't think they are necessary. Um, and I probably would refine the text a little bit. Maybe increase the gap between the letters just ever so slightly um to make it a little bit more legible. And I'm not sure about um let me just bring up my can't find my show toolbar. There is there it is. Just want to change the color of my brush, screen brush. So I I'm not sure about these uh triangles or actually there's only that one on the R. Uh that could have been achieved with blocks I think as well. So that little detail there really stands out. And by the way, I also like the negative space here on the pencil. the way it's just floats there. That little triangle is quite cool. So yeah, there's lots of sketches here. Some of them look a bit more legible. Some of them are a little bit harder to read. Lots of experimentation went into this. And then it looks quite cool in a single line as well. But once again, my main issue here is that without refinement on this, it would be very hard to read it. So, it would need to improve for legibility. Um, and the best way to test your text is always having it white on

the black. I feel like that's like this one here shows like how hard it would be to read this. Um, you really have to like strain your eyes to read it. And of course, when you work on something and you know exactly the words that you're working with, it always makes it easier to read it. But if someone who hasn't seen that text before with a fresh eye has to read it, that's the real challenge. Can they read it? Does it take long for them to read it? Um yeah, and yeah, the initials could work as well quite nicely. But yeah, overall aon really good work. Um moving on, we have Maria Theresa who did this design. Uh so [snorts] yes, we have two variations on the same idea. A little star mascot holding a pencil sitting on this 3D text. Um I really like the style, but I feel like first of all the mascot is too tiny. Uh if you think about this logo pro would probably be around that size and there or even smaller if it's like on a website or I mean we would use it on very small details um that mascot would disappear. So um the balance between the mascot and the logo would have to change but I can imagine I mean that's a very simple thing to fix. I can imagine that little mascot being moved down maybe here sitting next to the number or even having maybe a little bench where it's sitting at the bottom and make it a little bit larger. So that's not that big problem. Uh but yeah, not bad idea. I like the style of it, but it needs more work for sure. So it's um like a good starting point. And by the way, we a star is also a good um element. I feel like that's again something that we often use in our branding. Um it doesn't directly align with sprint but whoever takes part in the sprint u will excel become a star. So there's a there's a nice uh thought or connection there that could be could I can see it working. Um we have Daphna's work. Daphna took part in our previous contests and this looks interesting. This design a little bit too simple in my opinion. The presentation is very nice. I like nice clean presentation. I feel like it needs more work, but the fact again we have the eye connected into a line. It's a nice idea and then that words used around it. Yes. and grow. Actually, it says ready, yes, grow. Uh, it's quite smart. Uh, it's like ready, set, go. Um, similar to that. Quite a nice um combination of words and the way everything fits together. A little bit too much text. That's one thing here. Like it's just already design sprint 2026. It's quite a lot of text to include in the logo, but with the three additional words, it becomes a little bit too complex, but generally I like the direction as well. Medicine. Let's see. Medicine's work. Medicine has a few initial ideas that she started with and these are CH GPT. uh I very I appreciate the fact that there is like it's transparent that it was using I mean these results were created with chat GPT um so these are AI generated logos and then those were used to take them further and refine them now it's really nicely explained like what were the challenges how these shapes could be then used. The most important lesson here and this is the final result that uh medicine got to is that I feel like medicine was trying to stick too much too close to the um to the concepts that were generated by AI. So that's one thing to remember that if you use AI for ideiation, you should never consider that something that you have to like follow in any way. Um that's just like an inspiration you find on the internet similar to that, but probably even less important in terms of like should I follow whatever the AI generating. definitely is just something

that you can use if it inspires you. But I normally would recommend to stick to logos that you find that doesn't have to align with the theme of the logo that you're working on. more about clever ideas, styles or combinations of shapes and um and uh yeah, these are the aspects that you should be inspired by, not an actual uh design that then you just tweak and move things around. So, especially with AI generated logos, if you use them for inspiration, you should really just use it as a very initial idea. And I like the S being a star or like a comet. That's a clever idea that could be used in the final design, but um but probably not in its in its form that we can see it here. But yeah, like obviously AI is at that point now that it can come up with good ideas. Even if you're not directly prompt for something, it might surprise you with something. And that's probably one aspect of AI that I like. So it can come up with lots of silly things, hallucinations and strange results. But amongst those strange results, there might be something that will trigger and bring up some clever concept that you can develop further. something that the AI just made as a mistake, but you can turn that mistake into something uh that's really good. Turn it into a gem. Um that's the same thing happens with me when I'm sketching. Sometimes I'm making very strange sketches, but then later a couple of hours later, I look at it and I'm like, "Oh, actually, this could be used differently. " So, yeah, that's the same thing with AI. Um yeah, so moving on, we have Miam. Now, Miam submitted a couple of different designs and they are all quite weak, but this last one, this one is really nice. I feel like this is also AI generated, especially compared to the other ones. This is much cleaner. Um, and again, I don't want to make any conclusions, but uh Miam, I don't I can't recall mentioning that there was any AI being used here. Let me just double check. Uh yeah, I don't think there's any mention of AI being used, but I have a strong feeling, especially compared to the first two, that this third one looks very much like an AI generated logo. And the main reason I can tell that is because although the rocket in the middle, that little negative space rocket is really nice and especially that curve, the way it's going up is really nice as well. What does this shape around it mean? Is it an A like letter A or is it a speech bubble? Is it a triangle? What it actually is? So, I am I find it a little bit strange how that's created. It's not something like a human would do in my opinion. But overall, I really like the rocket, that negative space rocket. Very simple, but it could work. I see potential in that. Just a tiny little bit uh of detail there in the middle. So, again, just going to make sure it makes sense what I'm talking about. That detail I like. Okay, moving on. We have K Ozul who created this design and I'm just going to jump ahead here a bit. So, some variations. I like the display of it being smaller and then bigger and it's still legible and it works. That's a very good slide. I like obviously usability and then some notes. Yes. And then Yes. So these are the main elements. So it's obviously focusing on vector design and the anchor points of shapes. Um and these shapes are they remind me of the PlayStation controller buttons. Uh maybe because I play too often my PlayStation. But uh yeah, we are only missing the X there. Um but yeah, these are these are cool and I think it works well. It creates a nice uh unit. It works well together. The font is a bit too generic. Although it works well with the vector lines because it's a uni um what is it called? um the same length or width um used throughout all the letters. Can't remember the technical term for it. Someone might

know uh when you when a font is using the exact same line thickness, there is a term for that. Uh but anyway, so yeah, it works well together. Um uh so yes, the this work was nice. Then let's move on to Juan Juan. Is it Juan or Quan? I'm not sure. Johnson. Uh let's see the design. Uh yeah, so this one is looking a bit more like uh like graffiti style. We have some cool mascots, a hand running and holding the pencil. I like this. This is really cool. Showing the peace sign. Um and that's the one that's been refined as well. That's definitely the strongest concept. The graffiti style text is very hard to read. I've never been a big fan of this type of uh drawing. I can see this obviously showing fun and creativity, but yeah, I feel like it's also a little bit dated. Um, maybe it could work uh with a little bit more refinement, but uh out of the I mean the design I mainly like the character or the mascot, but even the mascot I would refine further, but that's a good direction. Um, and this one I feel like looks a bit better. So, this is the other character, the pencil running. I really like this as well. I think it turned out really nicely. And then combined with the text, it actually looks quite good. The only issue here is the design word is very hard to read. The lines are extremely thin between the letters and they are even merging into each other. So when you look at the word design, extremely hard to read. Uh and legibility would be very important for this event and in general. Um so yeah, cool ideas though. So really I like both of them both of the directions with refinements they could work. Uh someone is saying uh he used the cyberpunk font. Is that cyberpunk font? Is that for the word sprint or I don't know where it was used but anyway. Um so yes. So you spotted a font that you recognize. That's interesting. Um okay. So now for this one um let me have a look at the name. So we have Yogesh. Yogash did a long presentation. Actually not that long. I thought that was a long presentation but yeah there's lots of sketches. It's great to see these as always. And then Yogesh ended up creating this combination of um a D with a big pencil, negative space pencil cutting into it. My main problem is it doesn't actually look like a D for me. I don't know about anyone else watching. Do you guys feel like this is a D or it looks more like an L to me just flipped around. I can't really see the D in it. I believe a bit of a line on the top is needed for this to start to look like a D. Uh but yeah, it's too abstract to to look like a D. And I feel like if we do something like this, I'm just going to jump over into Illustrator and do a shape here quickly. So if we were to use this idea of having a shape right and then we want to cut out of this shape then we can I mean we can do that but I would probably cut if I wanted to make it look like a D. So, this would be a C, right? I would probably want to cut out from the left side, not from the top left corner. Um, if anything, and then again, let's just round this down a bit. Um, but even then, it's hard. So, if we put it up here, it doesn't really look like a D to me. Um, yeah, it would have to be a shape in the middle. Something like that. Starts to look like a D. Yeah, I mean it's a tricky one. So creating a Dshape without any bigger curves on one side. So obviously once we start adding a bigger curve here and another bigger curve here, then it starts to read like a D and then we can have that shape cutting into it or having it inside. So yeah, it's um it's too abstract, but the idea is good. I like that negative space pencil.

like I like that negative space pencil. It took me a while to recognize it when I first saw it. Uh but then it can be used in lots of different ways which I like. Uh forming a star. Um but yes, so there's some clever ideas in this as well. Again, a little bit too abstract in my opinion. Would be hard to know what's going on. [snorts] Now, here's a really nice one. Philip Edgar Martiniano Barroso. Uh again, sorry if I pronounced the names uh wrong. Um yeah, Cyprian is saying instead of a square could have been a circle. Yeah, I agree that would have worked. Now, in terms of simplifying the letter D and S, I feel like Philip has done the best work. Uh yes, it's Portuguese name. Are you from Portugal or Brazil, Philip, or somewhere else? Uh but yeah, the uh the abstraction and simplification of the initials, I think you've done the best job. And not just this one, but I love all of the directions. So we have this quarter uh quarter circle like a donut shape that is used in this design a couple of times and it forms the D and the S perfectly. Um it's abstract but still recognizable especially with the text written next to it and yeah it looks great. It looks great enlarged and just having outlines creating those shapes around it. But I also really like this one. So, the D outline, but then there is an S inside the D outline. I'm very clever. Not 100% sure that people would recognize it straight away, but uh it's a nice hidden messaging in there. And uh yeah, even with a single color, it works. Um a little bit maybe too abstract. may have been ways to refine this, but the idea I really like. Uh, and then yeah, Cyprien is saying the first one. This one is the first one you like out of all of the ones I've showed so far. Uh, and then there is this one as well. This is probably my least favorite, but this is also quite smart. So, again, we have the D here on the top. Um, let me change my color back to what color can I use here that doesn't clash. So, there's the D on the top and then there is the S below. Um, the main issue here is that I feel like it's a little bit too abstract for most people to recognize what this is. Uh, out of all of your designs, I probably like the first one the most. I think that's the strongest one. Um, but the second one has merit as well. that can be refined and I think that could be improved and still be used. So, really good work, Philipe. I really like that one. Um, Joy worked on a couple of different versions. By the way, we mentioned in our brief that we don't want to see more than three versions or three different directions. Um, and I like when people read the brief. So uh many of you stuck to creating three ver versions. Um if you do three versions like here again in case of joy um I wouldn't repeat the same layout over and over again. So I'm just going to show you there is this is the full layout showing one version and then the second one again just simply replacing the logo and showing it and then again a third one simply just replacing the logo. Uh it's tedious to go through this like this uh and trying to compare what's the differences. If it's if you want to do this, just do everything in a single uh layout and have the three versions right next to each other. So for instance here, let me just zoom back closer. We could have already the three designs next to each other. And as we scroll down, we can again have them next to each other. Uh these could be again in three columns. So I have a single page in this long format and have the three variations right next to each other so the reviewer can quickly go through it instead of me jumping over it and keep scrolling over the mockups because it's exactly the same thing. So uh yeah, it's just one of those things that I wouldn't repeat the same design out of these three. By the way, I like this one the most. Uh most likely this is a font, but it's a quite nice font. very simple in terms of the design itself. Um so just to assure that it's a quite nice

combination uh but quite simple not not much uh not too unique or not unique enough um uh now this one is by Lena Magdalena. Uh Magdalina I believe took part in our design sprint uh this year at the beginning of this year and she's done some nice work and I really like this idea of the pan tool forming a rocket and creating also this crest looks a lot like the rebels from the uh logo of the rebels rebel alliance from Star Wars. Um, whoever is Star Wars fans pro would probably recognize it. Um, so it feels a little bit too sci-fi uh for my liking, but really nice concept. And there's a few mockups how it could work. Uh, to be honest, if uh I had a bit more time last year, I probably would have done something similar to this. So that was my idea as well to maybe refine this rocket a bit further and then just have instead of just a 3D stock asset uh have something that relates more to design. Um but I intentionally didn't mention this in the brief. So it's quite nice to see that many of you created that connection and yeah really nice work Magdalena. Um, Annis also one of our past contest winners did a lot of hard work and uh really good presentation for the work. Uh like the again the transparency of mentioning that these are AI generated. Um and again it's quite scary. I know Annis is quite good at using AI. Um, and we can see that there is a lot of different styles that AI can do quite well. Like these mascots here or sticker mascots look good. Um, is these ones as well look quite good here on the right like that. There's a whole pallet of characters. A brush. These are probably the best actually. Let me just zoom closer. I mean, these are great. These was already great. But if I go, let me just scroll down a bit here. Uh, I mean, look at these ones. It's scary how good these are. Um, and I know, I mean, I've done similar stuff with AI before, but yeah, I just, um, it's concerning how good these are. Can't really even see any signs of them being AI. There's no like mistakes or obvious telltale signs. Let me know if anyone can tell any anyone can spot any obvious mistakes. But um yeah, I mean even the hands look good. Uh they're consistent in the amount of fingers apart from I mean obviously this character has five fingers. The others have four fingers. Maybe that one's the only one that stands out slightly. But besides that they are really impressive. Yeah, these would make nice stickers and yeah, they all look really good mascots. So, [clears throat] these would still have to be turned into vector format and like drawn or traced over to make it really work for a brand. Like I wouldn't just accept a traced version of this, like an autotraceed version of this if I was the client, and in this case I am the client. But having something like that as a starting point, it's quite impressive. And even these 3D rendered rockets, they look great. AI is really good at uh 3D renders. Um creating 3D render designs. Uh yeah, this rocket character is actually really nice. It's funny how the rocket has lags. That's uh yeah, a little bit strange at the same time, but yeah, it works. Um, but yeah, then we have all the uh different drawings and explorations based on these or inspired by these. I'm just going to flick through this quickly um and get to the final design. This character is a bit strange for me. The eyes, I'm not sure about the eyes. Um, proportions not 100% sure about as well. It feels a little bit too too, I don't know, cartoony. Feels more like something for kids events, not serious enough. So, a bit too on the playful side. And again, this character is slightly better, but also was a little bit too playful

um, too cartoony. Uh, and then we have another logo option with the S. This looks a bit more professional, but uh again the S on its own um not sure if that's the letter that I would like make it make stand out or feature as a standout detail. Um the pencil as an S is more interesting. Uh so this is probably my favorite the last one out of all of them. But yeah, Anna, good work. But uh yeah, all of these ideas would need more refinement. Now, DIP is sometime someone I haven't seen uh before in the contests. So, I was very excited to see this because this was a really nice uh direction. Uh the PDF I feel like is a really high resolution PDF because it takes really long to load. That might be something in the future if you uh submit your work, reduce the file size because it's very hard to switch between the pages. But this is the concept to have everything look like or the D and the S. The initials look like it was drawn with a pencil or sorry, the pen tool. Uh and then we can see the different ways that this logo can work. Uh but essentially there's the D and the S. The D again is a little bit hard to read. That's the main problem I have with this. But uh very nice design overall and it looks really good on mockups once the PDF loads. Let's just wait a bit. Yeah, it takes extremely long to load. Yeah, I don't have the time for them to load, but yeah, you can see it here. Um, really nice idea and with a little bit of refinement, I think this could work really well. The D and the S. Um, yeah, nice direction, DIP. You've done a good job. Ivana is someone who I believe took part in contests before, potentially also currently a pro member. I'm not 100% sure. I haven't checked. Uh, but Ivana, I remember seeing work from her and she used me as the inspiration for this character. And I love these drawings. They are so good. Very cool, cartoony, but still look professional. I like how the application icons are gifts. And uh yeah, there's a drawing a photo of her drawing these I believe in that looks like Photoshop on the iPad. And then we have a couple of variations. The character carrying the text, just a character like as an avatar. And then yeah, a few variations there. Color variations. also a female character. It's supposed to be my wife Shimi. Um, yeah, there you go. Or could be anyone to be honest. But yeah, it's cool that there's two characters we have here. And by the way, I mean, these are really nice. Uh, I feel like this is a really cool direction. Very simple but effective. I actually, if I zoom a little bit closer, I see some sketches here that are also great. Like this character looks really cool. Um, it would have been nice to see all of the sketches. Um, not just in this format, but actually see them side by side because I feel like Ivana definitely has the skills to come up with some cool character designs. And in this style, I could imagine all kinds of different mascets working well. Um, okay. Now, moving on to Eduardo's work. These are quite nice as well. I'm just going to open the PDF quickly and soon I'm going to get to the decision on the um contest. So, just a little bit more, a few more designs I want to go through. Then I'm going to say the decision on um what's the conclusion of the contest and then we will be spending some more time going through the other entries from other contestants and I will try to give some useful uh constructive feedback on how

you can all like learn from those entries and how you can improve your chances of winning contests, make more um effective and functional logos. Um, okay. So, Eduardo did some nice sketches and created this design. It's really good. I really like it. It's very modern. Um, there's some ideas here that I prefer over I mean some placements of text I prefer more than others. Like this vertical format I really like. I like the D and the S, the design sprint written underneath and the big date on the right. That's a nice format, but I can see how this can work in all kinds of different ways. Um, yeah, I mean, this background and the logo on top of it is just a bit too confusing. Not sure what's going on there, but that was a little bit just too crowded. This is another direction. Um, looks a bit more like a crest. Um, and it's also quite cool, quite unique style. And then we have the pen tool in a circle. That's nice as well. Probably the least characteristic, but um, this could also look quite nice. Um, so out of the three, I like this one the most. This feels more on trend and a bit more uh, unique. Okay, here's Ecaterina. Eaterina, I'm not sure how to pronounce the name again. U, she did an interesting design. This is It looks like and it's really like hinted at that there scissors all around. So, it looks like a cutout text. It's actually a font called Super Mario 256. Um, and it looks quite cool. I like it. and maybe a little bit too simple, but it's actually I can see this working for the brand. Um, not sure if I would want to use a font that is like quite easy to recognize. U, people probably would recognize this. Whoever is familiar with that font, but yeah, I can see this working. It's a very bold text, playful, legible, so it ticks a lot of boxes and yeah, a few alternative designs. Uh, but I like the cut cutting the dash line for cutting in between the text. That's uh really works well with the shape of the letter forms. So yeah, nice little presentation as well. Moving on, we have Pa's work. And here again, we have the circle and the rocket combined together. Um, and there's a couple of sketches and mind maps nicely explained how we got to the result we can see. And yeah, that's it. And there's some mockups. So, yeah, nice design. Uh, I obviously uh nice presentation as well. So, Pia has done a good job. uh Cheyen, one of our past contest winners, he also came up with an interesting idea of having the uh combin combining a couple of different things. So he created this shape that looks like a mouse cursor but also as a rocket. So that's quite cool. And then that is added as a negative space on the letter D. So there's a quite a lot of things put together here. So once again, it could be seen as a pencil as well, but also looks a bit like a mouse cursor and a rocket. And then all together that's also within the shape D. So this is really strong. I really like this one. Yes, Philip is saying I believe you are saying you like this one. Um colors are also quite good. A little bit too warm for my liking. Although we mentioned that we want to have warm colors, but yeah, that's how it would look like as an app icon and a couple of different designs how it would look on different mockups. So, Cheyenne, really nice idea. Um, would need more refinements, but it's a good very good start. And then finally, before we move on to the conclusion, here is Jen's submission. Uh very nice presentation. Um nice and clear explaining everything. Um and then we get to the concept of a runner and then we can see some

illustrations and sketches turned into the final vector artwork. Um, we have this character running and then we have just the handlettered text and then the one with the pencil. Out of these three, for me, probably this last one is the strongest one, but I would want to refine this further, both in colors and outlines of shapes. But yeah, this lock up of in the whole thing making a square or rectangle and the details that we can see inside it looks really good and I can imagine this being refined and uh turned into the final design. So, now that I went through the ones that stood out to me, and as you can see, that's let's just count how much of these were the ones that we already covered. So, there's 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13. So, more than 20 that I picked out. And uh there's a there's a lot more clever ideas in the other entries further down, but these were the ones that was were slightly stronger or were had aspects that really made me think and made me um think further than what I've seen. Um, so my uh current thinking is that out of all of these, I won't be able to choose a winner yet. But I would like to invite the ones that I already reviewed for a second stage if you want to move forward. And we will probably do a call that all of these people will be uh invited to and uh I would like to give like a a like a second briefing but it would be something that I would like to do live. So consider this something that was like a first round where we um we decided that these are the uh the people that we would like to work with further and then whoever is in this selection will have the chance to work in the second round. And for the second round, we will decide on exactly the deadlines and when this call is going to happen, but we will reach out to all of those who are in this selection. And we will have a much more specific brief this time. So it's not going to be the the the request at this time is not going to be to further refine the existing work that they've done. Instead, we will be choosing a few directions that we really liked and we would like each of these designers to take or recreate that in their own style and with their own uh ideas injected into them and then from that I am 100% sure we will be able to choose a final winning design. So I am sorry if uh that is upsetting or if it's delaying the final result but since this is as I explained in the beginning it's a very important event for us something very close to my heart as well uh I want to get this right and instead of just choosing one person out of all of these amazing creative people I would like to continue work with all of the ones that I already uh reviewed here. So again, if you haven't seen your name here, um it doesn't mean that your work is not good. But in this case, I try to also simplify my work in a way that we won't make this open. The second round won't be open. So I don't want to have too much work to go through. uh I believe a little bit of uh like redu reduction on the number of designs that will be created is going to help in the final outcome. But yeah, thank you so much for everyone who took part and congratulations to those who made it into the second round. So, that's it for the ones that I uh wanted to continue working with. But let's move down and let's take a look at some of the other entries. So, I am going to just cherrypick from these because there's at least another I don't know 60 70 here. So yeah, I am not going to go into too much detail, but here's for instance um one submission by uh let's see um can't see the name. Yeah, that's already one thing that I always recommend to put your name on the top at the beginning somewhere. uh if your name is not in the file name in the PDF which should it also should be there you should always have your name on the top uh somewhere clearly visible. Um so I like when there is a long page a single scrolling page layout but when it comes to reviewing work in a PDF format this is actually not ideal. I prefer to have pages where I can jump. So like here there's a clear way that this could have been broken down into pages. Um and yeah so as a website if you are creating a landing page that's great you have a long scrolling page that's obviously a good format or on behance as well is

great if it's done that way but when you submit your work for a contest you know it's going to be in a PDF format uh some kind of division creating slides is always useful. So that's just a quick feedback here. um on this work for Phillip that was it Phillip I believe yes Philillip was work by the way quite nice design and nice presentation just that's like a common issue that I see uh many times and that there's a long page it's hard to review it in a PDF format uh also very common mistake that I've seen and I'm going to try to find one of the submissions where I remember seeing this. Uh let me see when you have maybe this one when you have very yeah varying sizes of uh pages within the PDF. So you can see the first page is a completely different aspect ratio and size to the second one. The third page is different again. The fourth Uh this happens of course if you work in illustrator where you have very different page or artboard sizes and then you export them and then you just quickly create a PDF out of that. My recommendation keep your page sizes in the PDF exactly the same not just the aspect ratio but the size as well. Uh otherwise it's a constant zooming back and forth and Acrobat especially if I'm opening the PDF not directly in Acrobat is a tricky one. We have to scroll around. It's just not convenient. So always keep your page sizes the same. That's very important for future submissions. Uh so whoever hasn't seen their submission, it most likely is amongst these ones here at the bottom. So let's see for instance Paul your one must be here somewhere as well. I remember seeing your name unless you submitted too late. There were a few submissions we just couldn't include because it was after the submission deadline and we didn't want to be um unfair for those who submitted on time. So yeah, it must be here somewhere. It's I mean they are so tiny it's hard to see them all. Um yeah. So let me just go to another one. Um okay for instance we have Yara who's done a really nice job in presenting the work. Um really cool sketches, nice font. I love this font. This font is actually probably the best one I've seen for uh for the design, but then the font is not used in the design. I really like that font. It looks great here. Looks really good there. And then we end up having a mascot that I just don't really know what it's supposed to mean. Like it I can tell it's like a monster, but uh and I do like monsters. I like I love drawing monsters. Um, and my son, he loves drawing monsters, too. Um, I don't know where he got that from, but yeah, this is not really like how is this going to work with the design sprint event? I'm not sure. So, yeah, it's just a very strange one. Other than that, really cool colors, presentation, the style is cool as well. It's just like missing the point on like what we are after. Uh which is a shame because yeah, I can see the potential. Uh we have this one from merely um a soup of creative stuff with the noodles and like a Yeah, it's a noodle uh box. It's quite cool, but obviously it's a little bit too much too uh I don't know, too complex for a logo. This looks more like a sticker. As a sticker, it could work. But yeah, like it's too oriental. I it doesn't really work uh for our uh brand and direction. Uh Michael interestingly created something very similar to Cheyen's uh design. This S. Uh Shyam did something very similar to this. That's uh yeah it's uh this just shows that obviously there's a limited amount of uh ideas but uh there will always be similarities between entries. uh it doesn't mean that people steal from each other because no one could see each other's work until

today's session and obviously apart from us. Um there's some really cool fonts here as well like this font I really like here on the top right and that's a nice font I can could imagine that working um and by the way if I just jump back there Michael's uh additional ideas. So, for instance, something like this. If we drop that into Illustrator or Photoshop. Let's just jump into Photoshop instead. If we do a quick design with this. Yes. Let's just drop this in here. Um, one second. There's the screenshot. There you go. So, when you [snorts] have a logo like this, subtle 3D effect, uh, u monol line text, we have the same thickness all around. It already looks really good. In this one, all we would have to do is to inject some personality into it. So, this is where we would want to have either a mascot added or maybe use the negative space somewhere. Uh, like here, there could be a pencil on the N. Like I can already see the pencil showing up there. So, if I were to draw this with my I'm just going to draw it by hand using my stylus. Uh this is just going to be very basic but just trying to show you what I mean. So if we have maybe just a bit more lines coming out and then we have white going in. You can see how that could already just have a little bit of character added to it. So, I'm not going to settle on anything here. But yeah, even just something like that already could be a pencil seen as a pencil. And we could even like have maybe that shape there on the top um just to make the pencil even more obvious. And then we could potentially have a mouse cursor maybe down here, which again is just a very subtle hint at the mouse cursor. Something like that. So, let me just continue a line here and another line there. And I probably would want these shapes to be the same size. But yeah, you can see already even just as simple as these two shapes, that's already going to have a little bit of character added to it without overpowering the design. That's always the case with these additions and refinements. And um yeah, I can already feel like this is too much. So I'm just going to remove that bit there. So even just that much I feel like is enough to make it start to look like a pencil. And even this one can be probably smaller like something like that. Uh but yeah, I can see a bit of negative space or play with negative space in these designs and it's already going to look quite interesting. Um, and [clears throat] yeah, then let's say we go back here and so yeah that the fact that I haven't cho these are not in my final pick doesn't mean that there are no good ideas amongst them. So there's some interesting things in each of these. So, if I go for instance into Danielle's work, uh, again, very nice presentation, some interesting ideas, and there's the final version. Nice mockup. So, again, really nicely presented. But with this design, for instance, my main problem is legibility. Again, hard to read it. The mascot is good in terms of its proportions, but blends into the text too much. um and probably doesn't really add much to the design. So yeah, and the eye being like a flame or burning like a candle is cool. That's probably the main

idea that I like in here. Um which could which could be like burning creativity, the creative energy um can be associated to a lot of things. So that was a quite good idea there. And then let me just move on. Maybe pick another one. Oh, this one as well from Elana. Elelliana. Uh we have a nice little mascot again. Flame. Another flame character. Really cool. Nicely explained uh both in Spanish and English, which is quite cool. And there's actually more in this PDF, a much longer presentation. Um, yeah, cool little character. My only concern with it is that it doesn't really speak to me as design sprint. So, flame on its own is a bit like strange for me. It's not exactly what I would think of as creativity. Um like a light bulb is normally what we would associate creativity with or ideas. But um yeah, star is I feel like is a bit closer. But again, nice presentation and uh some cool uh concepts in there. And then let's take a look at maybe Karen's work. What's this one? Oh, yes. It's just a two keys next to each other. That's a little bit too simple. Um, we have Peter's work who did a very nice combination of things. But again, Peter created, here's a good example of what I said about page sizes. I mean, look at this. We have a very big page in portrait format. Then we have these tiny pages, each in different size for the mockups. Then we have another huge page. Then we have a mediumsiz page. So yeah, if your PDF looks like this, you need to refine the page sizes, unify the page sizes, and make sure it's easy to go through them. So yeah, that's something that is definitely when you work in Illustrator, keep your artboards the same size. Uh that way you won't have this issue. Um let's see, Kate Kate's work. Um, yep. That's also bit too generic. That's the main reason I ended up not using it or not picking it. But there's a few interesting ones like this one had some Yeah. So that's quite an interesting idea of building up the S shape from simple shapes like geometric shapes and arrows. Uh I can see that working but again it could be a little bit hard to read and a bit too tiring and like having too much elements put together. Um then let's see here we have okay this was a collaborative submission by three designers. Um, there's already a typo in the beginning straight away, so there's an extra zero there. But, uh, overall really nice presentation. Um, nice presentation. Moodboards are really good. Really shows that you were on the right track. Lots of ideas put together. Uh but out of the three designs here, I for me it felt like I think the third one was the strongest one actually. Yeah. No, all three is lacking uh I don't know, lacking h polish on it. But this is probably my favorite out of the three. Although it's quite hard to read, this character or text looks quite unique. Um, yeah, I quite like this one. Out of the three, this is probably the the only one that I can imagine maybe taking further and refining. Um, let's take a look at dark design and we will soon wrap up. Oh, yeah. Flame is burnout. Yeah, Cyprien, that's a good point. But burnout is quite negative. So it's like if I'm doing an event, I wouldn't want any negative connotations. Uh because it's a bit tiring to taking part in an event like this where like

three weeks of intense work. Um so I wouldn't want people to associate with it being too hard. Uh but yeah, like this one again is quite cool. Darko did this brush that connects the eye, the two eyes. Um, and it's a really cool unique text that was created here, but there's a few things like S looks more like a number five. Um, the N and the T connected looks a little bit I mean, it's a bit hard to read. Uh, but overall, this is actually quite nice direction. I quite like this. This other one is a little bit weaker. Um, yeah. And just because you can connect two characters together, you don't always have to do that. Um, it's a bit too obvious. Um, that's what I meant in the previous example. There was like two parts connected as one, not just one. Um, yeah, there's a light bulb character here. Uh, let's see what else. Andrea, let's see. Andrea's work going to wrap up soon. Oh, yes. Lara uh saying the last design sprint was so great. Actually felt sad that it was over. Me, too. I actually got used to it and I felt like, oh, this is actually something we could do for the rest of the year. — Well, then I wouldn't have time to work on courses and um designs. But uh yeah, it was great fun. I think instead of spending more time on this, I'm just going to show just briefly the uh last year's design sprint uh work because I'm very proud of what been put together by our the those students who took part in it. So, we have the uh design sprint. I believe it's in here. Design sprint. Yep. And [snorts] then let me show you the final review board. We actually had more of my creative professional friends joining at the end. Uh we were reviewing everyone's work from the entire design sprint. So, I had I think around four or five guest reviewers. And uh this was the board that we used. So the first uh project was a perfume bottle design and the poster design for that bottle. So everyone had to design a perfume that could work with the brand called Paradise. And uh the bottles were all designed by the students as well. So these are all u designed specifically for this project. And then the posters created from for them. uh we used a lot of AI for this because we wanted to explore how it can be used. But the main one of the main things that we do in this design sprint is that we try to balance how we use AI and in what form we use the AI. Like for instance, we start with our sketches and then we use AI to visualize those for us. like Robin Sketch you can see here turned into different variations with we use magnific and um a couple of different tools to turn that into something that is photorealistic like this looks like a real product but it looks exactly like Robin's sketch or this other one as well. You can see how the sketch is then turned into the bottle and then how the bottle then ends up being in a design uh for a poster. Um, there's some really cool designs here. Really nice uh ideas. This was mine. I'm just going to zoom a little bit closer. So, this was again the bottle I designed from uh this bottle was designed from a sketch and then I created this swirling um like flowers. Obviously that's the scent I wanted to show like really feel like okay that's the this the scent of the perfume. Um and um yeah it's a it's a cool design. A lot of AI is being used here but um but again I was the I was directing AI and um I feel like it turned out quite nice. It's a quite nice uh poster. And then we also have an example of how a sketch can be turned into something that looks very realistic. Uh again with the clever use and combination of Photoshop and AI. Um again something like this without AI would have been extremely hard to

achieve. So when I have an idea like this in my head I know exactly what I want in my sketch. uh to actually create a transparent bottle with a hollow shape in the middle in front of a sunset and water underneath it. And to have that reflection or the the liquid look realistic, that's extremely hard. Like for that you either need a photo shoot or a 3D environment where you can model this and you can render that. But AI is actually so good at predicting how that should look like even if it's not 100% realistic. This is where I AI's strength is the main strength lies and this is what I like to use it for. So, um yeah, that's just a quick example of um some of the projects, but yeah, we worked on uh logo designs as well. Some really cool logos were created and then we worked on layouts as well. Uh some awesome uh layouts were created for a magazine cover and the interiors of the magazines as well, like is a nice example. And uh yeah, so I really had a lot of fun with this and so many nice memories as well of this uh my cover. I used a Google maps 3D view that I turned into uh using I think I use magnific here as well make it look realistic. Uh so turn a Google maps into a photorealistic image of an actual place. So this is a an actual place that I visited as well uh personally. It was also a quite fun uh little experiment that we did there. All right. So, that's all for now.
