### Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00) []

When I was going through a massive quarter life crisis in my early 20s, I ended up moving back from China after living this epic bucket list year. You know, I quit my full-time job. I decided I was going to do the thing I'd always wanted to do. Move to China, become a monk and a kung fu master. Now, after I came back, I got incredibly depressed. I got depressed because now I had to reinvent myself all over again. I had no friends. I lived with family. I had no money. I was single. And really, I had no purpose and no direction. But in that phase of life, I did an exercise for 90 days that so radically changed the direction of my life that I've done it pretty much every year since. And in this video, I want to share exactly what that process and exercise actually is. Hey guys, I'm Alex Hine over at Modern Health Monk, author of the book Milk the Pigeon, a field guide for anyone lost in their 20s, 30s, or 40s. Let's jump in. Now, this is an exercise that a business coach of mine had me do that really changed my life. And what he said was, "Alex, I want you to set a goal that is 10 times bigger than what you've set here. And I want you to do something different, though, because entrepreneurs stress themselves out not with the size of their goals, but by the timelines they give themselves to achieve those goals. " So he said, "My strategy for that is you set a 10x goal. " In this case, it was like going from 50,000 or 30,000 a year to 300,000 per year. And he said, "I want you just to give yourself 25 years to achieve that goal. And all you do to assess your progress is you're not going to stress daily. weekly. You're not even going to stress monthly. You're just going to set a quarterly goal once a season on how to improve or reach that big meta goal. And that basically gives you what? Four quarters a year, 25 years. You have 100 quarters, 100 seasons of reinvention, evolution, and growing. And he said, "You know what I found? Most people will actually end up achieving that in 10 to 15 years instead of 25 years. " Since then, I've thought quite a lot about this process and this exercise, designing your life based on 90-day increments. In big businesses, they call these quarterly sessions or quarterly strategies or quarterly goals. But in our personal life, you can just think this season, right? Each season is about 3 months of the year. What do I want to build and grow and create this season of the year? It's not short enough that you're stressed and anxious about day-to-day achievement of those goals, but it's also focused enough that you can make significant progress towards your number one or number two goal. So, the big difficulty with achieving goals is that we're either on one or two sides of the spectrum. One side of the spectrum is we're so overly focused on that big meta goal, right? The book quit my job and work for myself, find the person, right, that we want to date or settle down with. And what inevitably happens is that we're so obsessed on that big 10,000 foot view that we forget to do the things on a daily basis that actually help us reach those goals. So, we want to save money, but we're not earning more money on a weekly basis, working at that coffee shop or the side hustle and putting it away. We want to start the side hustle, but the end of the night, every night, we're tired. And so, we're not actually taking the time to make those things a reality. What I found is that there's a discrepancy between who we think we are and who we actually are. And that's usually the difference between thinking about action and taking those massive actions. Now, the other side of the spectrum is people who overly focus on the day-to-day. It's like the classic one is like it's January, it's the new year. The rookie who hasn't worked out in 5 years decides, I'm going to go to the gym 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. What happens? They're starving themselves. So, they're hungry. They're working out for 2 hours, which is way too much gym time. The next day they wake up, every part of their body is sore. Every bone, every muscle is sore. and they can barely move because they overdid it. And then what happens? 3 months later, they're not even in the gym. So this dichotomy of people who are either overly focused on the big goal, God, how do I write a book? It's so stressful. Or are over booked with tiny incremental daily tasks and they're just like 30 g protein first thing in the day, one gallon of water, five meals, gym, 2 hours. Their whole day is filled with this minutia of all these little tasks. The 90-day goal framework is by far the healthiest way that I found to achieve your goals and achieve most of your dreams in life. Now, let's jump into my 90-day goal setting framework because this is the specific journaling exercise I do every phase of my life and I want to have a truly incredible life going forward. Now, when it comes to a 90-day roadmap for reinventing your life, I do have a framework that I use and I call it the 331 framework. Think about this always in terms of 90day goals, right? Remember what my coach said, 25 years, 10x, build the 10x vision, like something that really excites you. So the 331 when it comes to 90-day goals is three rocks, three rituals, one notebook. Now, the rocks are really the three big things you want the most, right? And we talked about push and pull goals. We talked about set some goals that are goals of love, that excite you, and some that are fixing domains of life that suck, that are causing you pain, that you've avoided. So let's say the three rocks are find love, save 200 per

month, and then pivot careers because you hate your job. We have our three big rocks. And this answers the problem of what goals do I set? How many So this is the strategy. How many and what? And this is the actual process. This is the goal. This is the process. For love, let's say we decide that maybe the best way to meet women or meet guys is let me pick up a new hobby when I'm around people and I can just bump into people more. Let me if I'm a guy, ask out one woman per week for coffee. And then let me be a man and get therapy and work on my issues, my daddy issues. Okay, let's say the earn or save 200 a month is a goal. Let's say number one thing we can do is we can automate that transfer in Capital 1 360. So, we're not even thinking about it. And then let's say the second one is to apply for jobs because I don't really have a lot of overflow to save that much. Third, pivot careers. Let's just say I'm not really sure what the next career is. So, I'm going to research job roles one hour per day or 20 minutes per day and I'm going to go to a weekly networking event because I'm not having any success going through the ré machine trying to mail out, you know, ninja star 500 rums. It's not working. Let me go to a weekly event, see if I can meet someone that way. So, our 90-day goal framework becomes find love, save 200 a month, pivot careers, and let's say your number is save a,000 a month. Maybe that takes you a year or two of earning your income, increasing income, right, to actually get to that. And maybe pivoting careers, maybe 3 months is only enough time to even know what you like. So that's fine. Your 90-day goal can become a smaller segment of this process. 90 days, you map this out on one journal page here. And then you reflect at the end of the 90 days, end of the season. Did I do these things daily? How frequently? Are they on my daily schedule like this 9 to5? If this is all work, anywhere in my schedule, have I put new hobby salsa class? Have I put therapy Thursday at 8:00 p. m.? Have I put apply for jobs every Saturday for 2 hours in a cafe? Weekly networking Wednesdays at 6 p. m. Then you can end the delusion of why is my life not working out the way I thought it would because you didn't actually do anything. So focus on 90-day increments. Three rocks, three rituals, one notebook. Review it every 90 days. Remove your day-to-day anxiety. your life will come become bigger and better every 90 days. So, I want to leave you with this. If you're setting these big goals, write the book, find the person, lose 50 pounds, make six figures, quit your job and work for yourself, you're going to give yourself a lot of anxiety because you're probably putting an artificial deadline on when that has to happen. It doesn't have to happen in 6 months, but as long as it you see progress towards those goals, you'll stay motivated and you'll actually be taking the actions to make that a reality. But the other side is the people who are over booked dayto-day with the minutia, all the protein shakes, the 2-hour workouts, changing every single meal. It's too many things to keep track of. So, if you're trying to change your life, you can do all of that in 90day cycles. And just remember the advice of my coach. Set a 10 times bigger goal than the one you have right now. And in [snorts] that 10x goal, give yourself 25 years. But if you just focus on those 90-day increments, one season, set your goals, review your goals, do that every single season of your year, of your life, and you will iterate four times per year massively towards your biggest goals and your biggest dreams. Now, I've used a 90-day goal setting framework basically every 90 days for the last 5 years of my life. And this framework is great for if you're going through a quarter or midlife crisis, you're lost, you're directionless, you're trying to reinvent yourself, trying to reinvent your life. This 12step process is designed to be completed over 90 days. One step per week, right? 12 steps, 12 weeks, in a quarter or in a season. So, it's the link right below this video, modernhealthmunk. com/reinvent. And it's also right below the video. And we go through my process to get unlost, to design your next chapter of life, and really figure out what is like your hell yes life that excites you the most. Now, as part of this 90-day challenge, I'm going to issue a challenge to you. I want you to do this for 90 days and watch your life change. I've mapped out this entire personal development challenge right here in a related video I want you to watch now.
