### Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00) []

There are some uncomfortable truths in life that will help you get ahead of 98% of people. You know your friend who's just beautiful and they always just get a magical relationship and all these friends and these jobs because of their charisma and beauty. Sucks for you, right? You know that friend who's really not that smart and not that hardworking, but because his dad is like a finance bro and owns his own firm or whatever, he gets this magically high paid job even though he's got two freaking brain cells and he's really not that special. Sucks, right? You know that friend who really took great care of them health, but they constantly still have health issues because they run in the family. Their digestion is always weird. They're always seeing doctors, but they actually live a healthier life than you do. Sucks. There's a lot that's unfair in life and there's a lot that you cannot control. But if you can learn some of these other uncomfortable truths I'll share and get over them, the faster your life will be absolutely incredible. Hey guys, Alex Hine over at Modern Health Monk, author of Milk the Pigeon, a field guide for anyone lost in their 20s or lost in their life. Let's jump into point number one. If you're feeling lost, everyone else is too. You just don't see it. And there's one thing that will make all the difference. You know, when you're young, you tend to have this idea because you look up to mentors. adults when you're a kid. You look up to your parents and you think, "Wow, they must have it all figured out. " As you begin to age, you start to see anything that is anything but the truth. In reality, the people that have made the most progress in their life are those who have taken the least hesitation and have decided to just take action even though they felt lost in life. One of the biggest lessons I learned was that if you learn to take action, even though you don't know where to go in life, you're going to make way more progress than your friends who are waiting to find their thing in life to take perfect action to start. And so, initially, it started off with the blog. I would put out a weekly article about weight loss and holistic health. And then, as it evolved, I started YouTube. And YouTube really just took off for me. And I found that I liked it a lot more than I did writing. As YouTube evolved, I realized, you know what? What I really love is talking about how to live an incredible life. You know, it's like the kind of material that I wrote about inside of milk the pigeon. And because of that, I had made a big pivot. Let's pivot the brand from like how to be healthy and fit to how do I build my dream life. That is a topic I could talk about really till the day I died because I am always evolving and the process can be very complex. And then as my YouTube channel grew, I thought I really want to write a book. Milk the Pigeon was my second book. How to figure out, you know, a field guide for anyone lost in their 20s or going through a quarter or midlife crisis. But I wrote Master the Day. And after I wrote that, I was like so proud to have a book and it was so exciting even though the process was hard. And then after that, I decided to just launch an online program. After I created that online program, I decided, let me write another book. And after that book, I decided, you know what? I'm gonna go back to school and do my doctorate. I went back to school, did a doctorate in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine after I went through a health crisis where no doctor could fix my problem, but a Chinese medicine doctor did. And I was blown away. And what I learned over this weird process of evolution of Alex's life, now Dr. Alex, I didn't foresee those things that were five steps ahead. All I could see was the next step. So many people I see when I had coached people in the past don't take any action in their life until they know exactly what it is that they want. And that's a mistake because life is about a progressive process of evolution. You don't know what you want five steps ahead. Typically sometimes you get those intuitive hits, those gut feelings, those like visions from God where you're just like boom, that's the thing. But in the interim you don't. And all you can do is take imperfect action to build the blog, to try that next career, knowing it will probably not be your forever career. You're not going to make the wrong decision. You can always go back to the boring job. The people who take imperfect action are the people who build the life they want. And the people who wait to take action until they have all the plans set, the perfectionists, almost never end up living the life they want. That's a mistake. So, I've put together a 12step process. If you're going through a quarter or midlife crisis, you're feeling lost, you don't know what to do going forward, you want to find a job you love, and you want to build a life you love, download the free guide right below this video, which is my 12step process to reinvent yourself. Now, I want to give you a few other brutal truths that will help you. Number one is that skills pay the bills. One thing I learned going through my 20s is that if you're struggling with your career and making money, the most important thing to keep in mind is that earning valuable skills are what actually pay valuable bills. If I had lost my job at any point while building this business as a YouTuber, I could

### Segment 2 (05:00 - 10:00) [5:00]

talk to people about getting traffic for their business on YouTube, how to get followers online, how to write books and market books and sell books, how to build digital programs, how to build a team. I developed all of these various skill sets that on their own are valuable and extremely useful even if I had to go back to a job for someone else. The thing I see is that your life doesn't get better on its own. It gets better if you get better. And especially if you're working on your career or even if you're just working on trying to find a girlfriend. If you're the very introverted, quiet dude who struggles with women, the skills that will get you women are confidence, living an interesting life, focusing on your passions and career, and being more successful, having a better charisma, being more confident, a better conversationalist. These skills will serve you overall in your life, but they will also help you get the girl. Example, if you're struggling with reinvention, the number one thing I can recommend is acquire valuable skills because the people who have the most valuable skills will be the most successful regardless of whether or not you think they're interesting or useful. So skills pay the bills. The second idea is that alignment is more valuable long-term than effort. In Angela Duckworth's work, I think is called grit, she has this whole book about why people succeed in the long run. And the number one thing that she says is that the people who were the grittiest were the ones who ended up becoming the most successful the longest term. And the way that she defines grit is passion for a topic and perseverance. Passion was essential because most of the successful people she interviewed in her book and in her research, they were people who wanted to be doing that kind of work. They weren't people who were forced to be doing the kind of work. It was work that they actually wanted to do. Saturday morning, that's where they wanted to be. But the second part was essential, which was grit. they were more likely to stick with their whatever the challenge was over a longer period of time compared to their peers. It isn't just passion on its own that makes you successful. I know a lot of broke creatives. I live in LA. But passion and grit towards becoming exceptional and building those skills. And so what I see is that alignment, which is the passion component is more important in my mind than effort over the long haul. If you really like the work you're doing, you just love painting, you love art, you love making music, you love medicine, or you love being on camera, you're so much more likely to stick through the really shitty and hard parts of your life or career when you love what you do. And you're more likely to work longer hours, work evenings, work mornings, and survive those devastating hits that will happen than someone who doesn't love their work. Creative business is a great example. The creatives who don't exist anymore are usually the ones who didn't really like the work. And so, as a result, they're just not here. So, alignment with work you love is more important than effort over time. But staying in the game over time is just as essential. Now, my third point here is if you outlast everyone, you'll win. You know, I think about this a lot when I talk about, you know, the story of my friend. My friend where at 26 he was going through the boring finance job and was just working his way up the ranks. hated his job but was making good money and he just stuck with it. And then here I was trying to build my own thing, be an entrepreneur and create YouTube videos and write books and travel and I was really struggling with that. And it took like 3 to 4 years to begin making any money from YouTube and from my bills and from that sort of thing. What I learned was that if you outlast everyone, you're going to win. If you're here and you're like struggling with your building your YouTube channel, you're struggling with like being a doctor in a in medical school, you're struggling with like what do I do with my life with you're making 40k at a job you don't like. If you just every year are trying to level up and you here 5 or 10 years, you're going to be in a dramatically better place a year from now, 5 years from now. No question about it. Because most people have the attention span of a goldfish. And when their first YouTube video doesn't work out or [clears throat] their 10th, they're like, "Oh, those people just got lucky. It was so much easier 5 years ago. It's the same old BS" they say. Or, "She just got the job cuz her mom's in the business and blah blah blah. She's pretty privileged. " Those things may be true, but in the long run, the person who stays in the game is more likely to be the one who's winning the game. And I saw this with my friend. By 31, maybe he was making 120K, but he was miserable, wanted to quit his job for years. But by 31, finally, after 5 years of being a creator, I was finally able to really make this business count. And I was really, really having substantial progress. And we were making the same amount of money, but I loved my work. I was only working 20 hours a week. And I was excited about the future just because I stayed in the game longer. Now, the most brutal life truth of all is that the people who follow a process and have a strategy are more likely to succeed over the long run versus the people who aren't. And I've put together my little brand new playbook. It's brand
