### Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00) []

How small can you make a computer? I'm Madison Ko and I'm a senior technical specialist here at the University of Manchester. I use this system here to put down single atoms which are the building blocks that everything is made from. For the next generation of computers, we can actually use single atoms as the information blocks with which to build them. As we're using atoms, we can make these really small. And because of the physics involved, they are really powerful. But there's a catch. To get these computers to work, they have to be very cold. And to get them cold, we have to have a system bigger than the size of this room. So although these computers are really, really small, there's no chance of having them in your house anytime soon. The thing I love about my job is working with people from all around the world and building better materials for the future computers. —
