### Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00) []

What is a quantum computer? My name is Amber Carrick. My pronouns are she, her. I'm a PhD student here at Royal Hol studying noise and quantum computers. A quantum computer is a really interesting different type of computer. It uses the properties of small things to solve problems of big things. We call these tiny things quantum objects. And they can interact with each other and they can be in many states at once. And the fact that they can talk to each other means that you can do lots of computation at the same time. This means that you can search through lots of data very fast, faster than you could with a regular computer that has to look at things one at a time. This can really help scientists understand climate change and make new medicines. I work here at Royal Hol to develop quantum computers and to make them better for everyone. I'm fascinated how big things and small things can come together to solve really complicated problems.
