If you're bleeding right now, it's probably because of the supplement that you're taking. Let's review some supplements that can actually increase your bleeding risk. If you're new here, it's time for Wellness Wednesday, where I actually go through the clinical evidence behind natural supplements. So, our first natural supplement is actually going to be fish oil. So, EPA and DHA actually reduce thromboxin A2, which decreases platelet aggregation. Pretty much what it means is it makes your platelets less sticky, so they don't clump together so easily. This is usually dose dependent, so be careful if you are on higher doses, especially if you're taking anti-coagulants. Next supplement is GKO. actually inhibits platelet activating factor which impairs platelet signaling. In other words, it blocks signals your platelets use to activate and start clotting. And this is actually one of the most documented supplements for spontaneous bleeding events, which I don't know about you, but that does not sound like a good time. Next is going to be garlic. This inhibits platelet aggregation via multiple pathways, including throxane suppression. So, in other words, it pretty much slows down your platelets. Kind of like a milder version of aspirin. And before all my Italians start freaking out, usually the supplement doses are much higher than just like dietary intake of garlic. How many of these did you already know about?
