This is the value of keeping your teeth even if it has a root canal. There is a huge amount of money in the implant business and implants work and some people have very healthy implants. But I want to just focus on the value of teeth that the implant industry will not tell you. Now the tooth needs to be healthy and you can have a healthy root canal. What I'm looking at is beyond the root of the tooth, there are little fibers. And in this model, it doesn't really show them, but they connect the bone to the tooth. And there are hundreds and thousands of little fibers that go from the bone to the tooth. And these are periodontal fibers. It creates what's called a periodontal ligament. This ligament is kind of like the bungee cords around a trampoline. If you've ever bounced on a trampoline, those cords at the end, that is what this ligament does. As you bite up and down, you compress this parodontal ligament. And we have discovered that when that occurs, there is a transfer of that information to our brain. And in the brain, we release almost like a hormone. Every time our teeth bite together, this is why biting your teeth together has an impact on your balance. You should try it sometime. I have tried it when I'm trying to balance on a thin platform. You can balance better if you clench your teeth together. And this is because a hormone is released that actually affects our perception of where we are in space. It also helps our vision and it may help our thinking. So to take out a tooth and put in something that is basically a screw with none of that, think really carefully before you make that decision.
