Hemoglobin A1C is a readout of average glucose levels over 3 months and magnesium has a powerful impact on glucose metabolism. When insulin binds to cells and regulates their function, magnesium is required for that process. Magnesium also promotes glucose transport into cells and out of circulation. So if we don't have enough magnesium around, insulin doesn't work normally and we become insulin resistant and glucose can't be transported into cells and out of circulation efficiently and we get higher blood sugar levels.
