### Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00) []

If you're somebody who tries to get 10,000 steps a day or has like any step target, something you need to know is that not all steps are created equal. A really interesting study just came out that followed around 30,000 people or 33,000 people over 8 years. And they categorized them into different groups. So people who would get their steps in like 5 minute bouts or 10-minute bouts or 15minute bouts. You can imagine like if it's only 5 minutes, maybe it's just cuz you're like getting up from your desk or moving around, but if it's 15 minutes, maybe you're actually going on a walk. What they found was in terms of heart health, going for longer walks was more important regardless of the step count. So even if you got lots of steps in your day, if you were doing it in short little bouts, it was less effective for your heart health. 15 minutes of walking at a time might be like 1,500 steps. And that's better than doing 500 steps three times uh throughout the day. Obviously, if you can only do 5 minute walks at a time, like don't worry too much. Steps are great. Movement is great no matter how much you're doing. But if you're conscious of it, it's worth knowing that going for a longer period of time gets your heart rate up more. That's where a lot of the health benefits are coming is that extended walks or steps, not just the pure number of steps.
