new tonight as world leaders say war on the ground is out of the question for now security experts say a cyber warfare threat still lingers NBC 15s Brittany Ehrman joins us now in Brittany the Department of Homeland Security actually issued an alert on Monday they did John DHS urged organizations to tighten their security and remain vigilant I sat down with the cyber security expert who says Iranian cyber bots or other foreign actors could still retaliate following the recent attacks monitoring systems and networks and protecting data it's a day in the life of Dave Schrader this is my passion his present and his past I've served in the Navy as an information warfare officer where Iran's cyber security was his main focus and it still is today in the immediate aftermath of this strike we saw Twitter start to be flooded with propaganda following the u. s. airstrike that killed Iran's top general Schrader says the cyber attacks took flight pro-iranian BOTS and trolls spreading false narratives about the u. s. the point here is to be able to influence people to think or behave in a certain way and shortly after on Sunday a government website hacked showing a bloody image of President Trump with a pearl Iranian message to follow it's just taking a website and doing the equivalent of you know spray-painting graffiti on a wall but Schrader says there's a difference between cyber attacks and cyber warfare things that could be destructive to property or human life Schrader says an attack of this magnitude could take weeks or even months to form and requires a high level skill but he explains in the last decade the Iranian cyber abilities are getting stronger we don't believe that Iran has the ability to conduct a cyber attack that would have a national impact but that might be the kind of attack that they're looking for and you may be asking how can I protect myself well the cyber security expert tells me any attack from won't be targeted to an individual person but more so large businesses and federal networks in the studio Britney Armen NBC 15 News
