# #410: How to update the firmware on the SV4401A handheld VNA from Sysjoint / Chelegance

In today's short video, we're going to take a look at how to update the firmware on this Cisjoint SV 441A that I got from Cheligance. I noticed that an updated version of firmware for this unit came out in January. So, I updated this unit and it was so simple I thought I'd show a video how to do it. The first thing to do is download the firmware. And you can find it in a couple of places. If you go to the CISJON site uh for the product, and I'll put this link in the video description down below, and scroll down, you see the download link, and then from there, here's the link for the latest firmware version 0. 73. zip. You can also go to the Chilligans website for the product. Again, I'll put this link down below. And if you scroll down, it's actually under documentation. Click on that. And that brings you down to the firmware updates. And here is the actually latest three versions of firmware. So the one we want is 0. 7. 3. In either of these sites, you uh click on that link and download that file to your computer. So with the zip file downloaded, if you open up the zip file, you'll see two files in there. Update. bin, which is our firmware update file, as well as a readme. ext file. This one has details about what's in the firmware. And here's what's in the readme. ext. We can see that the main update is adding a reference trace, uh, which is handy if you want to do some before and after testing and things like that to look at how things change as you make adjustments to whatever it is you're working on. So, some details here about how to get to that reference uh, save a reference trace and then use markers to compare data from, uh, your live trace to the reference trace. as well as a new auxiliary line that you can use as well and a couple of bug fixes and things like that. To do the firmware update, we start with the unit turned off. We take the USB cable, connect the one end of it up to the computer and the other end up to the unit right here. Then we hold down the control key right here and turn the power on. This will bring up the unit in the update mode. From here, hit the UDISK uh icon. And what that will do is turn the VNA into essentially uh what looks like a USB drive on your computer. This will open up a new Windows Explorer for the drive letter associated with the USB drive that's in the VNA. If it doesn't open it up, simply go and navigate to that. In my case, it comes up as D. And we see in there a number of folders as well as the file update. bin. That's from the last time that I did an update. So, we go back to our main uh zip file, take that update. bin file from the zip file, and simply drag it and copy it onto, in this case, the D drive. I'm just going to replace the one that I have. And that prepares uh that file on the VNA to be used to do the update. With that file copied onto the VNA, we simply hit back and then switched then hit the upgrade key. And the upgrade now is going to go and take that update. bin file and use that to update essentially the firmware files on the VNA itself. And this takes just a few minutes. So, I'll speed the process up so you can see what happens at the end. And now that it's completed, we simply hit continue. And that brings us back to this screen. At this point, we can just cycle the power. So, we'll turn it off and back on again. And we'll notice as it's booting up here that we're at version 0. 7. 3. And there you have it. That's how easy it is to update the firmware on this CIS joint or Cheligance SV 441A handheld vector network analyzer. Hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks again for watching. We'll see you next time.
