If business cards are dead, here's what actually gets you referrals instead. No one keeps a rolodex of business cards anymore. We keep these things. If you keep these things around, 95% of them end up as bubblegum wrappers. Next time you're at a networking event, here's what to do instead. Tell them, "I'm cutting back on paper waste, so let's do this instead. " Then snap a pic of the two of you together. and text it to them with your smartphone contact all set up with all of your contact details plus a short description of what you do to include a few keywords they might search their contacts for later. Then, and this is critical, text them within 24 hours of meeting them just to say, "Hey, it was great connecting with you. " And do you want to set up a coffee date where we can chat about how we might refer to each other? Stop spending money on things that don't work. Especially in the age of AI, we get to build real connections that allow real humans to remember
