So, do you remember the bridge that suddenly collapsed in Dresden, Germany back in 2014? You probably do because it made world news. But what you might not know is that it's not the only recent example of Germany's crumbling infrastructure. 6 months later, a section of a ring road in Berlin had to be demolished at short notice after a crack got much bigger. In fact, it turns out thousands of bridges across the country are in need of upgrading or replacement over the next decade. Which is why when a 500 billion euro special fund was unveiled in 2025 with a large chunk going on transportation infrastructure, it was all seen as pretty good news. And yet now a year after the announcement, some experts are concerned about how that money is being spent. Meanwhile, big projects that are already behind schedule and impacting other countries as well continue to struggle. So will this funding boost be the answer to Germany's transport problems? Well, the fund has got more than a decade still to run.
