A big thanks to Squarespace for sponsoring this week's episode. Morning everybody. Fantastic to see you all again. Well, I'm about to climb a mountain. It's a hill really, but yeah, it's going to be interesting. It's very cold. Uh I forgot my gloves and um it's about 230 m climb from where I am now. So, not very much really. And it's about an hour and a half before sunrise. Let's go. Well, it never gets easy getting up in the dark and setting off on a walk like this. Got a light down there lighting me up in case you're wondering why I'm so bright. But, um, it's absolutely perfect blue sky, which means there might be a chance of some inversion fog. You never know. I'm just glad to be out. God, so whacked. So worth it. So, I followed this stone wall all the way up from the valley. I'm about 160 m up now. Um, I want to really get to the top of that cuz that'll give me a sort of almost 360 view. I think I just need to keep going. Got about 40 minutes before sunrise. Okay, I'm nearly there now. Got about another 40 m to the top. Um just going over a style and yeah, crossing over this wall that I've been following all the way up. But it looks pretty epic over there. So I'm glad I brought my 400. Don't drop your camera, Nigel, because I think there's going to be some great long lens shots up here. All right, come on, Nigel. Last bit. Stop being a wimp. It's just a question now of trying to look around all the rocks and find something with layers. The reason I'm staying back from that layer over there is cuz that add some midground interest. So, if I can find a rock like this or something behind me or there's some interesting rock down there, then that'll be good for shooting into the sun when the sun comes up over there. Um, yeah. So, I think I'm just going to base camp here and then see what I can find. It's windy. I didn't think it was going to be windy. So, I've gone a little bit creative here. Um, you can see my camera. There's these sort of selection of rocks here. I feel like I could go sort of a wider shot here. And I think if I'm honest, that might be better. But I wanted to try something where I got down a little bit lower. And you can see here as I'm just moving the camera that I could get that rock just down a little bit and I feel like that quite could be quite good. But now looking at this again I feel like it would be better a little bit higher so I get the reflection off the top of this rock here because can you see if go how I get the reflection off the top of it. So it's always good to experiment with height and position especially when you're using a wide angle lens. I think it's in the morning. You've got to be quite quick because obviously, you know, you've not got as much time to set up because you'd arrive when it's quite dark and the light changes. Whereas at sunset, it does the other way around. But I'm sure I'm going to get something pretty good today. Although, I'm not sure I'm going to get sunrise cuz there's a bank of cloud over there. So, I might not get first light, which is a shame. I probably look like a broken man, but I think I've done it. I've got to one of the peaks. There's a higher one, but for now, this will do. Boom. I'm going to go up to this one, I think, over here. That one there. Great thing about up here is there is so much rock to include in the foreground and then mountains or hills all around me. But it looks great with the early morning sun. It looks great. Okay. Right. Top of the world. So, um, as you can see, I've got a pretty good 360 view here. And, um, there's a little bit of an inversion down there. I was hoping for a bit more. Unfortunately, the one place there's

clouds, which always the case, isn't it? Over there. Um, is where sunrise is. So, I've not got that really nice color. Um, but as you come around, you'll see I could I reckon I could like zoom in over there somewhere and maybe get a shot. But I think it's all going to be about finding some rocks around about there's a lot of them. And then maybe just trying to get something interesting. There's some water down there that's frozen, which could be quite good, but I don't think I'm going to have a shot from there. Um, so it's Yeah, unfortunately I've not got that early morning light, which I was really hoping for cuz that's what's spectacular. But it's still amazing. And well, it doesn't get better than this, does it? Top of the mountain in the morning, nobody around. Brilliant. It's not quite epic, is it, Mass? as Mass would say, but it's still beautiful. Hello. Um, I really like this rock, the way it sort of going lines like that, but also it does it all the way along there and sort of sweeps around. And one of the things to do with a wide angle lens is make sure that you know you're thinking about the impact the foreground has in your image because the foreground is usually, especially with a sky like this, going to be huge part of your image. So, it's got to be interesting and sort of um leading your eye through into the image. And I feel like this does a little bit. So, yep. Whoa. Don't fall down. So, I found this um sort of dead I don't know what it is. It's like a gory tree that's hugging the rock. And I love things like this. I love it where trees are coming out of the rock. Do you know when it's one of those things though that you think is going to be better than it is? Um, the sun's getting really nice now, so I should probably shouldn't be concentrating on this. But yeah, I've got this. I got the mountains, a little bit of sky. The sun's coming in from this side. I think it looks good, but it might look really awful. So, I'm not 100% sure. It's one of those things that I'm just not It could be amazing. So, I'm taking a shot. And as the light comes up Oh, the light's getting good over there. I just need to do a long lens shot over there. So, I think this shot here has probably turned out the best. Basically, I'm shooting at about 18 mil, and I've got this bit of sort of frozen water here that's still in the shade, which I think looks good. I got sun hitting here. I've come further around so I don't have the sun on this face, but I really like this little rock down here and then it sort of goes through and there's some mist over here. I'm going to sort of, you know, create there's a real glow coming from the sun. So, I'm going to recreate that when I edit it. Um, it's so beautiful up here. Oh my word, this just looks so spectacular. Yes. Ah, well, it definitely doesn't get better than this, does it? Oh my word, this is so nice. Right, keep going, Nigel, though. Don't stop. Sometimes you just need to stop there, don't you, and admire it. Wow, what a beautiful day. Okay, the light is kicking off something rotten now. I've just taken a long sh shot over there, which I'll show you in a second, but the light over here is really nice. Um, and casting on the mountains over there. So, I feel like I just need to just look at that. I'll take this again. Put my wide angle lens on. What am I going to do with you? I maybe just need to put you over here so you can see me. Quick, Nigel. What about here? Right. You watch me from there and I'll go crazy. Right. Quick, quick. Need more. Holy smoking Moses. It's looking good. Right. Don't panic. Swap to wide angle lens. Go handheld

and then grab Let's take this shot first. Oh, Nigel, what you doing? Get this shot first. Absolute idiot. Okay, got that shot with the sun on it. So, now I'm just going to go. Um, I just want to I really like the shot here. And I think I can probably handhold it. Oh, this is nice with that ice in the shadow. Super nice. Right, Nigel, what you doing? It's just no. The sky is just a bit boring. But I can handhold this. I think he says, "Ah, it's best in that direction. I need to shoot in that direction. " Um, I think I need to be What are you doing, Nigel? Stop panicking. Think think. What happens if I go back up here? Go up here. This could be good. I maybe just go back to where I was. But I just want to shoot in that direction, don't I? Probably can't see me now. Can you see me? Hello. Right. What am I putting it on a tripod for? Don't put until you found the composition. Absolutely imbecile. I'm getting there now. I want to catch that light coming in there. That's nice. So, what I've got here, I'll just explain quickly. here is um this I've got this foreground here, which is quite nice leading to that. I'm just going to have to take the photo and then I'll explain it cuz I might not have much light. Yeah, that is nice. That That's worked out well. I think I probably just need that. Just got to think where the light's hitting. So, so that's worked out pretty nice if you can see me over here. And um you've just got to I just wanted to come a little bit this way because I wanted the light to show on that rock. So, just by coming a little bit this way, it just made such a big difference to the shot. And then I really like the fact that we've got this pond here that's in frozen and the light coming in there. I just need to watch for any flares, but I think it's okay. I can just cover the lens a little bit like that. Right, let's take that shot. So this is what um the electric is all about this slate and they mine this slate. Um, but I just found these really nice bits that have just sort of cracked forward like this. And I think this makes a really nice vertical shot, especially with the grasses at the bottom. Um, obviously there's a little bit of sun on the top there. It would have been nicer if the sun was just a little bit further round. So, um, probably in the summer this will be a better shot. So, I'll mark this down as a potential summer shot. But wow, this is so spectacular wall there that I'm going to shoot as well in a minute. So many things. So, I found a really interesting shot here. I put on my 28 to 400 again, and I really like the way the light sort of hitting this wall. And then there's two um houses. There's one sort of about there and one about there. And I think it's quite interesting. So yeah, taking this because I can. I've basically just been shooting with probably around about 200 millimeters, just picking out these houses and the fields. So, zooming right in and not having any foreground. I think that makes some really nice shots. So, I really like the way the sun's sort

of molding the land a little bit and creating shapes in the land. I think that when you get that on these green fields, these farmers fields, it just looks spectacular. So, yeah, I'm really pleased with this. I think I'm going to have a coffee now. What a morning. Oh my Word. There's nothing better than sitting on top of a mountain in the morning, beautiful day like this, and having a coffee. It literally doesn't get better than this. Oh my word. This is what I do it all for. I tell you what, when I was lying in bed this morning, I was like thinking to myself, "Oh, I really don't want to get up and hike for an hour up to the top of a hill. " But once you get here, you just don't even think about it. It's just the best feeling in the world. Tastes good. Well, it tastes like flat coffee to be honest, but anything on top of here tastes like the best espresso you've ever had. This is the espresso of life, isn't it? Coming on here. The corniest thing I've ever said, but it is true. God, I love doing this. Thanks everyone for watching and thanks for supporting me over the years. And I just can't believe I get to do my dream. And it's all thanks to everybody that watches this channel. So, thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I'll keep trying to make videos like this as much as I can. But I can't imagine stopping cuz I love it so much. If you like it, please give it a thumbs up. It massively helps. And if you're not subscribed, then why don't you consider subscribing? There's a lot more like this to come. Right, I think we need to print some of these photos, don't we? First, I need to get down. More coffee. I'm just going to sit here for a bit, I think. Wow. Oh my word. I've just come down that. And I definitely wouldn't recommend that. That was one of the hardest descents I've ever done. If it had rain been raining, it would have been impossible. Slate when it gets wet is just lethal. So, I hope you enjoyed that. I've got a print that I'm going to show you in a second. Before I do that, then please give this a thumbs up if you haven't already. It massively helps the video. Last week's video did really well. We got loads of comments on it. And there is also two winners of my Close to Calm book, which I'm going to talk about as well in a second. So, thanks for commenting. So, I want to say thanks to Squarespace for sponsoring this week's video. Um, I've used Squarespace for years and years and they are a fantastic platform if you're a photographer and you want to showcase your own work. Or maybe you're at that point where you're just ready to sell a print or a book or a calendar or maybe some workshops, then they're perfect for doing that. I use them to sell lots of my products, one of which is my digital ebook. And as you can see here, it's easy to set up the page and allow people to buy my ebook. And then Squarespace takes care of all the backend bit of distributing that ebook, which is super good for me. At the moment as well, there's 40% off my ebooks, both ebooks. My woodland's one of my composition ones. So, go and take a look. Anyway, if you're interested in checking out Squarespace, then make sure you go to squarespace. com/nigel or use offer code Nigel for 10% off. Okay. So, um before we get on to the winners of the Close to Calm, this was a print that I I did of um this amazing morning, I have to admit I struggled a little bit with the sky. It's always difficult when skies like that. So, what I try and do is I focus on the foreground and I really like this interesting foreground where I got the textures of the grass. I really liked, you know, the way this rock pointed in

this direction and I just kept the sky to a minimum really. But my preferred thing is really stormy skies. But I think this still works. Um, and yeah, I was I was pretty pleased with that, I think. And also, I took some shots from my drone. I showed one of them just before and I'll show the rest at the end of the video. Okay, so on to Close to Cal. There's two winners of this um Close to Cal book and um I'll put the names up here. I selected them at random and I've contacted you telling you exactly what to do and how to get in contact with me. I just would say that if anybody's got um a message on YouTube in the comments and it's not from me, please be really careful. You'll know it's from me because there's a tick next to my name. If there's not name, it might be my name, but there's not a tick next to it, then it's probably a scam. Um I think on this video there's not many like that, but um just warning you. Okay, thanks for watching. See you in a couple of weeks.
