Today we've got some familiar faces from the automotive world and we've decided to put them in this teeny tiny catum and make them race around Castle Coupon. — Very nearly lost it then. Wait, wait. Hold on. We're going straight. — Allow me to introduce you to our drivers. Richard Hammond, TV presenter and motoring journalist. Ed China, the engineering legend from Wheeler Dealers. Tiff Nadell, racing driver and seasoned TV pro. Jason Fensky, YouTube's engineering mastermind. Vicky Butler Henderson, Fifth Gears Fearless Performance Expert, and Andy Palmer, automotive engineer and godfather of EVs. All of these people, plus myself and more, are part of the new drive tribe collective, which is now live. Check it out through the link in the description. I will ask five quite difficult automotive related questions to each guest prior to their lap. — Oh god. — Do you want catering, Dave? — No. Each incorrect answer will incur a 5-second time penalty added to their overall lap time. — Well, I have no idea. — It doesn't matter. After the presenter has completed the five questions, they will sprint to the car in a sort of Lemon style start. Once in and harnessed up, the presenter will complete a lap. The timer stops once they cross the finish line. The shortest time on the board, inclusive of any incurred penalties, will be crowned the winner. First up, it's Jason Fensky from Engineering Explained. — Jason? Yes. — Are you ready? — Nope. — You've never driven one of these before? — I have before. This will be a first. And there's plenty of room, so it should be fun. — Yeah. Good luck. You've got three laps to practice. Have fun. — Amazing. Thank you. — Bye. — This is terrifying. — This thing is such a handful. It is delightful, but It requires a sharp brain. And after 24 hours of being on planes to get here, my brain is mush. — Now that Jason has completed his three practice laps, it's time to start the stopwatch. — Jason, — yes. — Your time is about to start. — Okay. — I'm going to ask you five questions. Get it wrong, you lose time, and then you do your lap. Okay. — Yep. — Time starts now. What is a me? — Right. You've you're not answering. You're not going to do the question. — I'm just going to take the penalty out. You're penalties immediately. My time, but you want to read one more. You want me to read you one? What is the main reason turbocharged engines often achieve higher specific output than naturally aspirated engines? — I'm sorry, I didn't hear the question. — Great. What mechanical advantage does a dual clutch transmission have over a torque converter automatic? — Uh, you can continuously deliver power while shifting. — Interesting. What causes brake fade during repeated high energy stops? Uh overheated brakes. — Okay. What is the primary role of an oil pump in an internal combustion engine? — Uh keeps the oil flowing throughout the engine. There's like five reasons you want oil, but yeah, we'll stick with it. Keeps oil flow. — Okay, one more. What's the primary purpose of variable valve timing in a four-stroke engine? — Uh variable valve timing. You can It's a really a emissions related thing. — Okay, that was quite impressive. Wow. — Wow. Good luck. Don't die. Brakes, brakes, brakes. Oh god, we're going straight. We got have Uh-oh. I don't know if they are aware, but I went off the track. I'm getting back on. Nobody needs to know. — Jason, — how was that? — Uh, well, are there penalties for going off the track? — Um, not explicitly, but you might have lost a bit of time. Oh, no. — But you did really well and I think you should be proud. It was your first time driving one. — It was not great, but uh I didn't realize until that lap that this doesn't have ABS. — Yeah. — And so it was like I just went straight and I was like, "Well, we're going straight. " — And sometimes that happens. But did you enjoy your experience? — Oh, it was fantastic. Yeah. — Well, then that's all that matters. Well done you. — Next up, it's Vicky Butler Henderson. Are you ready for your practice? — No. — Yes. You have to do this for the girls. I have all my faith in you. — Oh, — just go and learn the track. Done it a million times before anyway. You'll be fine. — Not for a while. Hick on the excuses. — Well, just jog your memory and then I'll see you in three laps. — All right, pop it. — Good luck. — Okay. — Oh, what gear am I in? Who knows? Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. No obs. — Okay, I really want you to win this. I'm not going to lie. So, let's just really have some positive vibes. Okay. — Yes. — Yes. — 3 2 1. Start the timer. Which hypercar

Carbon ceramic — They're usually red. — Porsche. Ferrari. — Yes. Which engine configuration is used in the in Are you in? Okay. Mazda MX5? And why is Mazda stuck with it? — 1. 62 L MX5. — Something like that. — 1. 8. — Yeah. Which company pioneered the modern dual clutch gearbox in road cars? — Dual clutch. — Oh, I've got an A or a B. — DCT. — Volkswagen or Ferrari? — Ferrari. — Cool. How many episodes were made of fifth gear? — Volkswagen. — Yeah, I'll take that answer. — Oh my god, not enough. I love that answer. How are we doing? — Nearly ready. — Yes. Got the little thing again. — Oh god. Safety first. — Yeah. Yes. You're safe enough. Good luck. — Keep thinking about that master question. Did I get it right? Oh, I didn't even answer the second part. Why did master stick with it for so long? Under my helmet, I am pretty. Oh, well, I might not have won, but I've had fun. — You're amazing. How did you find it? Did you enjoy it? — It was huge fun. So sweet. — The most difficult thing is trying to answer your questions whilst doing something physical. — Pretty difficult. It's really makes me — But you nailed the driving bit. — Makes me feel very dim. — No, but you did the driving. That's all that matters. And you smashed it. — How do you think you've done in the leaderboard? — Well, look, we're here with Tiff Nadell. He is — I'm like a tet. — Yeah. — So, I'll be definitely underneath him at some point. — We shall see. — After a very strong drive from Vicki, whoever was next had their work cut out. — Ricardo. — Hello. — Three laps to practice. Three laps of practice. You don't know the way. — Yeah. Well, that's what the point of the three laps. Go and explore the way. — Is that it? — This is a brilliant little car. I absolutely love it. — Well, remind me how this works. — Basically, I'm going to ask you some questions and if you get it wrong, you add 5 seconds onto your time. — Right. But it's all the same thing. And then you go around. You know how it works. You'll be fine. — So, can I start putting stuff on when you start asking the questions? — Technically speaking, yes. — Okay. Can I get in the car while you're asking the question? — Okay. Right. — Are we ready? 3 2 1 go. What was the first production car you reviewed on Top Gear? — Uh, it was a Mazda 3. Mazda 66. — Awesome. What was the first electric car you reviewed on television? — Uh, can't remember. — Brilliant. What was the first year you appeared on Top Gear? 200 oh one. — How many books have Jesus what you written? — Oh god, six. — How many videos has Drive Tribe made? — Uh 20 Can't get the belt to 230. — I'm going to tell you now, you haven't got Scooby. — Why? — Those questions were wrong. — Were they? — Yeah. So you got a lot of time. — Also, I can't remember the way around the track. — It's um just around in a circle. Okay. — Okay. Maybe just take a deep breath. — I can't get the — Oh, God. — Do you want some help? — No. cater from Dave? — No. — Are you sure? — I especially don't want cage from Dave. — Catering Dave's the best. — And then I just go Yeah. — Yeah. Turn the You got to turn the engine on, though. — Yeah, I'll turn the engine. — You got the This has got to just get back there. Yeah. No, — it doesn't fit. — It does. — You're making it worse. No, — I'm not. — Get it sorted. — Is it Have you popping it in? Yes. Can I go? — Yeah. All right. — Can't remember the way to save my life. — Very nearly lost it then. — Hello. — How was that? — It was fun. — Yeah. — I outbreed myself quite badly at one point. Oh, did you did it get a bit hairy? — I was going off. — Yeah, but you're fine. You didn't end up in the grass. — No, I didn't. — How do you think you did in terms of everyone else? — Um, I don't know. — Okay. — Average. — Yeah, it was all right. — I mean, I wouldn't be embarrassed by it, but I wouldn't be jumping for joy. — Good luck. — All right. Thank you. — After that performance, it was time for a real professional to have a go. — Tiff, you're about to do three practice laps. — Yeah. — How do you feel about that? — Well, a bit nervous. It's a bit damp

patchy. — Yeah, I'm not going to lie. It is a bit damp out there, but I believe in you. — You can believe. — I have faith in you. — She believes in me. — I'm rooting for you. — Oh, is he? — I love you. Now, — I kind of want you to win, so don't let me down. — Okay. — Yeah. — Are you ready? — Yeah. — Go for it. Go for your life. — Go for it now. — Limit gears. That's fifth gear instead of third gear. That's always some trouble with these little gear boxes. Wet wet wet wet. Could do this in fourth, I suppose. Then I wouldn't limit. — Start the timer. Let's go. Which manufacturer was used first use a carbon fiber monok in a production road car? Was it McLaren or Ferrari? — McLaren. — What was the first production car tested on fifth gear? On what program is that? Fifth gear or fifth gear, production car, fifth gear. Well, I have no idea. — It doesn't matter. What manufacturers's test track have you driven on most frequently throughout your career? — Manufacturers test track. — We don't get to go on those, so we haven't got the budget. — It's a good nice one. It's big. — Silverstone. — Yes. Which engine type generally produces more torque at lower RPM? Turbocharged or naturally aspirated? — Turbocharged. — Correct. Which car came first, petrol powered or electric? — Think carefully. — Electric came first. Yes, it did. — My milk float was electric. — Okay, it's time. — Now, let's just — I can't get my steering wheel on. — Get the steering wheel on. That's quite important. Now, if you get that little thingy, mob there. — What? — Just so you can get — I don't need that. Do I need that? — You need the door for God's sake, Tiff. — It won't lock. — It will. — Well, you didn't shut it properly. — Oh, sorry. Right, Tiff, you're good to go whenever you feel like it. — Good luck. Oh, we're off. Hope we're on the limit again and again. The gold break later. Really good. He's drying out a bit. Oh, slipping and down the finish line. — It was the Ferrari. It was the Ferrari with the first carbon 5. It was the — It was the Ferrari. — Am I finished, — Tiff? That was amazing. I think you should be really proud of that. — Well, it was for you. It was the only thing I did it for you. You said — Yeah, — but I got half the questions wrong. — No, you didn't. You did a very good Right. Are you all right? Do you want some help? — No. — I'm right. — Right. Yep. Okay. — I mean, trousers dirty. — No, you're all right. — You sure? — Yeah. You've nailed that. — All right. — How do you feel? You did. — Okay. Breaked a bit early for the first corner there. Could have got up power a bit sooner through the fast kit. It's still wet. Little rivers. — Yeah. — Rivers everywhere. I thought you did excellently and I think you should be very proud. — Uh I'm not going to tell you how you did though, so we'll just have to wait and see. Okay. — Tiff had set a strong time but was doubting his question answers. Could Andy Palmer do any better? — Okay, are we ready? You've got three practice laps. Good luck. Off you go. — Right, we're going to start the timer. Are you ready? — Yeah. — Three, two, one. timer has started. What is the significance of the term skateboard platform in EV design? — Uh there's the battery and the uh the the chassis of the uh vehicle. Nothing to do with the upper body. — Correct. Why is regenerative braking less effective at high speeds in most EVs? — Don't know. — Great. What was the first production car to feature aerodynamics that adjusted at speed? — Couldn't hear a word. — Okay. What was the first production car to feature active arrow that adjusted at speed? Valkyrie. — Okie dokie. What is the main advantage of a front mid engine layout in a Grand Tourer? — Uh, it's great balance. — Correct. Why do performance cars often use a low belt line in design? — Uh, low center of gravity. — Yeah, that'll do. Okay, your questions are done. Now all you need to do is prepare to drive. Okay. — Yes. Door. There we go. Have you popped it? Yes. That was epic. Very well done. Did you enjoy it? — This is good. The car's great. — Good. I'm glad. Very glad. Well, hopefully your score will be up there. We shall see. — Good to see. — Fingers crossed. Our final driver to face the mighty catering was Ed China. But during seat fitting this morning, we came across a slight hiccup. Morning, Ed. — Hello, Dave. How's it going? — Very good. We're going to try and squeeze you into this car. — There is no way. — The steering wheel comes off. — Oh, that's good. Okay, let's do that. — There you go. That gets you a bit more

space. — That's it. That's the method. — No, this is the method, is it? — I'm not sure your other leg's going to be able to come in. — That's fine. I think that's okay. If you give us a steering wheel, I think we're good, — I reckon. cuz then — I don't think this is going to work. — No, I don't know. Have you got something like bigger like a Range Rover? — Uh, no. But I do have a backup plan. — Nice. Okay. Yeah, Dave, I think um so — I think I'm stuck. — So, generally the idea is you got to be able to take your foot off the clutch as well. — Yeah, ideally. Yeah. — So, I can't do that. — No, cuz your knees and I but also if I do that, I can't steer at the same time and my knees are touching the dashboard. My butttocks, as large as they are, aren't actually anywhere near the seat at the moment, but my hips are stopping. I have my child bearing hips are in the way. So, do you have a plan C? — Luckily, good old Katerum Dave did have a plan C. Yes, we literally had to take the seat out to make Ed fit in the car. — I think we've got action now. I have no excuses. — And China, are you ready? — I I'm as ready as I'm ever going to be. — Well, you've got three laps to practice. Are you prepared? — I think I'm ready to go. — Okay. Yes. — Off you go. Good luck. — Just trying to work out how good the tires are. He said they were rubbish in the wet and it's wet. I worry about that. Oh, I get what I've done. That's quite funny actually. I can do that. Just going to go through the chicane here cuz some idiot went over the other bit of the road. — Okay, Ed, China, the time has come. — You know how this works. Yes. I'm going to ask you some questions — and then it's your time to shine. — Okay. — Are you ready? — Yeah. — Let's go. Start the stopwatch now. — What was the first car you restored on Wheeler dealers? — A Porsche 944. — Interesting. In a typical car engine, what component times the opening and closing of the valves? — Cam. — Cool. What is the purpose of a flywheel in a manual car? — To basically keep the bangs more smoothly. — Love that. What causes engine knock? That's when it's basically blinking when it shouldn't do. So, it's banging when it shouldn't do or things are falling apart. — Cool. What causes turbo lag? — Oh, well, that's just lots of just too much air and stuff. So, you have a little anti-lag thing to just keep the things spinning. So, it's basically the turbo slowing down. — Thank you for your answers. Get in the car. Off you go. — I'm just going to — You're doing really well. Do you respond well to positive vibes? Cuz I can give you some positive vibes. — Please carry on with the positive vibes. — Okay. You're doing excellent. — Thank you very much. Right then, I guess I suppose. I — think we're nearly ready. — Yes. — Got to be helped with safety, though. — Yeah, safety is key. — Safety first. — Safe enough. — Okay. Are you good to go? — He's done it again. — How do you think it went? — Terribly. — No. Yeah, I think well the thing is I think you're supposed to go around all the bends. — I think you did great. — Now that everyone had given it a go, it was time to head inside and deliver the scores in sixth place. — So that's last. Yeah. — Yeah. I'm really sorry Ed China. It is you. — But you know like — fifth place. — Yeah. — Andy it goes to which very much — fourth place. — No, wait a minute. Because fourth is you try and achieve fourth. — Yeah. — Last easy — just precision required — to achieve that. I'm very pleased. — Third place. — And I was rooting for you. I was — We did it. — Second place. — It's Mr. JC. I'm not going to lie. There is a lovely bottle of champagne patron Dave. — And of course, first place goes to the old man on my left. — Well done, Tim. — Well done. — And just in case you were curious, here are the lap times without all the questions and the faffing.
