hi folks Pete Matthew here from meaningful money you thought I'd um just give you a very quick tour of my podcasting setup I've been podcasting now for grief nearly three years actually three years this month I put my first one out um and in 2015 just a few weeks ago I won the UK podcast of the Year award at New Media Europe so that was very cool so I just thought I'd um share where the magic happens right okay I should probably hold the camera up like this because it looks better on my chins right okay so I'm just gonna flick the camera around like this and show you what we're looking at so let me just uh try and bring the exposure up so you can see it a little bit and actually if I take the brightness of my Max screen down that'll help quite a bit as well okay so here is my uh desk I built this is my office okay so I spend most of my working time here in my office at Jackson's Wealth Management in Penzance but uh I took a couple of um three drawer cabinets and built this uh little desk on top of it so we've got big side panel here which goes almost all the way up to the ceiling um and then built this desk which is a kind of um it's got a void in it so we've got this sort of that's about two and a half inches and in there is a lot of the cabling so just point out the various bits this is the most important bit this is a rode Pro Caster so the uh it's a broadcast quality mic some would disagree with that and uh I know a lot of podcasters use the Heil pr40 they when I started were actually really difficult to get hold of in the UK and super expensive so I went for the rode procaster and I've never looked back I absolutely love it of course it's on a shot mounts and everything so I can bang the table and everything and it doesn't pick up any of the vibrations you can see I've um just fitted some Sound Treatment foam this is a studio quality film here um all around the place and some Ikea lights at the top um down here the is uh Mackie uh 1202 mixer I wish I'd gone for the ones with the faders here rather than the swivel pots but um this enables me to do a mix minus system which means when I'm interviewing somebody via Skype I can record my side of the conversation in full uh sort of broadcast local quality as you can imagine and then just have their side of the Skype conversation going into a separate channel so that's pretty useful it means I can adjust the volume the relative levels on the Fly uh there is the uh the microphone then goes via an insert point into this little thing here so this is a Behringer um I can't remember the model number now or MDX 4600 and it's a compressor limiter gate there are four channels on here and all that essentially does if it should come down so you can see it um cuts out the channel what I use it for is as a gate so it cuts the channel out when the volume going into the microphone drops below a certain level and that just really helps to keep the background noise out you can see those lights there as I talk when I stop talking and I'm nowhere near the microphone at the minute but when I stop talking the LED goes red like so and cuts off the channel and it happens really quick and you can adjust how quickly it does that over here to the right is a headphone amp so I can have more than one set of headphones so on the rare occasions I've interviewed somebody here in the office they can have headphones too to be honest though bit of an Insider secret I largely got that to balance out this bit here so it just fills up the rack nicely this is a Roland ro5 so it's a hardware recorder so everything goes from the mixer into that and I can obviously play back from the recorder as well so I can hear what I've recorded not at the same time uh up here then this is my latest purchase this is a 27 inch 5K retina iMac which I absolutely adore including the new uh smart keyboard and Magic touchpad a magic keyboard rather I think it's called and the magic touchpad which I'm getting used to takes a little while this is a Wacom Bamboo tablet in the past I've done videos uh Pat Flynn style where I've recorded myself drawing really on screen and doing diagrams like I might do for a client and my financial planning practice I've done that and recorded that on various videos as well and then finally when I'm recording I'm monitoring on these Sony MDR 7506 Pro level headphones so it's quite a bit of kit here I suppose not including the iMac it's probably about a thousand quid worth of kit but uh to my mind at least it sounds like it so um I think you can hear good audio and good equipment uh at least that's what I'm telling myself so turn the camera around that's just a little tour I hope that was useful planning to do more of
