If I want it, I should get it.” That mindset can quietly lead to overspending.

That mindset can quietly lead to overspending.
Wanting something doesn’t always mean it fits your budget or your goals. Acting on every impulse can make it harder to build savings and stay financially stable.
Shifting from impulse to intention helps you make better decisions with your money and focus on what truly matters long term.

If I want it, I should get it. And so, there was a point in my life where I equated my financial freedom with being able to buy whatever I wanted to buy, whenever I wanted to buy it, because I wanted it point-blank, period. But, that mindset led to impulse purchases, overspending, and me accumulating things that I didn't even really love or like that much. And so, for me, what changed things was I started giving myself space between when I decided that I liked something and I wanted something and when I actually bought it. And by giving myself that space, that 24 hours, that 48 hours, that one week, many times I would realize that, you know what? This thing has no real value to me. I don't want it that much, and it is not worth it for me. And just because I like it doesn't mean I need it. I could put that money towards something else that I truly love or desire to have. Another thing that helped me was building a guilt-free line item into my budget, where I could spend money on things I enjoyed and loved without feeling the guilt of buying something irresponsibly because I didn't give myself the opportunity to think it through. So, yes, there are things that you want, but do you want these out of impulse, to keep up with other people, or because it's something that you truly, truly desire? Giving yourself that time to pause can help you get clear on why you want that item. And just because you have the money doesn't mean you spend it on whatever just because you can, right? You want to be mindful of how you're spending your hard-earned money. So, it's really important that you are focused on the beliefs that are impacting your life and that you shift away, you get rid of those negative and toxic beliefs, especially the ones around money, and adjust your mind to adjust your thinking and focus on embracing new, positive, and empowering beliefs. If you've been stuck struggling financially, in your career, in your relationships, remember that it may not just be about the money. income, but it could be what you believe in your heart, mind, and shifting away from those beliefs can make all the difference. You are allowed to build wealth. You are capable. You are worthy. You can be successful, and you can achieve your dreams. You just need to start by setting the foundation to adjust your mindset, adjust your beliefs, and then take the actions, put in the work that's going to get you where you need to be with your finances.
