### [0:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeaxEA-M0Qg) Is OpenClaw for you?

Open claw, clawbot, moldbot. This is probably the most famous lobster on the internet right now. — Oh, really? — Okay. Is it actually useful or is it just another AI hype? I spent 2 weeks finding out so you don't have to. Open Claw is not for everyone yet, but it shows you exactly where software is going and once you see it, you can't unsee it. Is Open Claw for you and should you even bother? If you enjoy tinkering, you don't mind googling things and finding out when things break, you're happy to spend some time setting things up, welcome to the rabbit hole. You're going to lose a few weekends, but you're probably going to enjoy it like I did. However, if you are someone who wants things to just work, you can put a pause on Open Claw and explore tools like Claude Co. if you're not trying to go deep into AI workflows and you just want to get stuff done faster without the learning curve.

### [0:57](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeaxEA-M0Qg&t=57s) What is OpenClaw (and why people are excited)

— So what is open claw? Open claw is an AI agent that can control a computer and perform tasks automatically on your behalf. The simplest way to explain this is you hire an intern and you give it its own computer, Apple ID, their own Gmail account, calendar and their own passwords. Okay, so what can it actually

do? Here's what I've tested. So far, the first thing I ask it to build is a mission control, a personal dashboard that's inspired by many openclaw enthusiasts. My mission control has my Google calendar events to track the context usage of every agent and to track their tasks. The second use case is inline writing and edits right inside my mission control. My openclaw literally built this for me in like 5 minutes. The third use case is letting open claw act like a personal assistant. Just text it something like this. You can tell it to schedule events, give you a morning rundown of what's coming up, and it's done. The fourth use case I use it for is a daily trend research. The mental model here is that if you don't know how to do something, ask your bot how to do it and bounce ideas together with your bot. The sixth use case that I've used it for so far was YouTube Analytics. I connected my bot to my YouTube Analytics API. it can pull the video performance without me having to open YouTube Studio and figure out the data myself. So, I'll briefly go through

my actual setup and what it costs. I have a used Mac Mini M4 here. So, it's currently on and it's running 24/7. The second cost is the electricity needed to run this my home Wi-Fi chat GPT plus via OF. The other option that you can go with is to run a local LLM. This AI runs entirely in your own machine. The trade-off is that your machine needs to be powerful enough to handle it and have enough storage to host this LM inside it. If you want to try this route, check out hugging face. I haven't personally tried this yet. Maybe I'll explore this next. Another popular option is open router. It's basically a single platform that lets you access dozens of AI models like claw, GPT, Gemini all in one place. This lets you save cost rather than subscribing to each LLM individually. The next cost is tail scale. It lets me access open claw from my phone or my MacBook. The next cost is Slack. You don't need to go out and subscribe to Slack right away. You can actually use Telegram to talk to your bot for free. The next cost is Brave search API. I allow my bot to browse the internet to search for trends and stuff on the Brave browser that's installed inside my Mac Mini. And the last cost is just time investment. It took me one to two weeks as a non-technical person to get comfortable with OpenClaw itself. There

are currently three main ways to set it up. The first way is your main computer. Please don't do that. You'll regret this. If you don't know what you're doing with OpenClaw and you accidentally ask it to do something like delete all your files, it will actually do it. The second way is to use a dedicated local machine that's connected to your home Wi-Fi like a Mac Mini or repurpose an old machine. I went with a used Mac Mini M4 because in case I don't like OpenClaw, I can just sell it. I believe that it's still going to retain its value if not go up in price. The third method to set it up is VPS like Hessner, Digital Ocean, and AWS. This allows your open claw to run on the cloud, but you have to pay a monthly fee. So, what open claw is bad at right now is that it forgets context between sessions. And the workaround that people recommend is to set up something called QMD, but I haven't personally tried it. The second issue with open claw is if you are asking it to do long task or heavy coding, sometimes it loses track. The

third problem with open claw is also the biggest problem which is security. It does exactly whatever you tell it to do even if is wrong. So don't give it access to anything you will regret losing compared to other people's automated workflows. My use cases for open claw could be a bit more boring. But that's what I choose to do to understand it fully before giving it more access and more controls. So here's my biggest takeaway.

### [5:19](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeaxEA-M0Qg&t=319s) The question we should be asking

Things that used to take a whole team can now be done just by typing a message to our bot. Subscriptions or tools that we've been paying for years can get obsolete because we can now ask it to do anything on our behalf. So the real question isn't whether open claw is useful right now. The question is what happens when this gets 10 times better when everyone has one. I don't have an answer to that. But I do know that the people who start tinkering with open claw AI agents are going to feel a little bit more comfortable when this all becomes mainstream. Open claw didn't just change the way I work. It changed how I see work. Anyway, this is my first two weeks with open claw. I hope this saved you some time or at least convinced you to waste a few weekends on this. Thank you for watching and I hope to see you in the next video. Bye.
