In this video, we explore the brand-new layer cleanup tool in Photoshop Beta version 27.6, where to find it, how it works, and what actually happens when you let Photoshop rename layers and delete empty ones for you. We’ll test it on real-world documents to see how well it recognizes objects, masked elements, text, and textures, while also uncovering its current limitations with adjustment layers and Smart Objects. You’ll also learn whether this feature uses generative credits, whether it works without an internet connection, and whether it’s truly a workflow improvement or just a nice first step in the right direction. I hope this video helps you. Thank you so much for watching :)

### Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00) []

Untitled five, layer 52, copy 4. We are so organized and unlazy. And to help with our unlaziness, have a look at how beautifully we have named all of these layers. Here's a new tool. You click on this button, hit apply, let Photoshop do its job, and automatically it has named all of these layers. But has it beautifully done that? That's something to discuss. By the way, to get this feature, you need to be updated to Photoshop beta. Yes, it's only in beta at the moment. I'm not sure when it will make it to the main version. It's in 27. 6. So, make sure you update it. I don't know what to tell you if you're using a Captain Jack Sparrow version. Once you have made the update, you'll find the new broom icon inside of the layers panel, but what if you don't see the layers panel? Every panel inside of Photoshop can be found where? Inside a window. Layers. There you have it. Let's dock it in there. Here's an actual design that I made for a thumbnail with a ton of layers. If I were to click on this new button, you'll see a dialogue box. And inside of that, you have the option to delete the empty layers. So, let's hit cancel for now. Let's create some empty layers because in the process of creating documents, we sometimes create some empty layers here and there. Layer seven and eight are empty. Even at the top, I'm going to add an empty layer. Then let's go back to this setting. We are going to check delete empty layers. So it will automatically detect every layer that has nothing in it and probably delete it and rename layers. And you can apply it to entire document or selected layers. You can just choose a bunch of layers where you do want to apply it to or the entire document. That's up to you. Hit apply. By the way, if you don't like these renames, you can always go control or command Z. And this is done. Here it is. Microphone on a stand. And that's what it is separately. If I were to show you this layer, it also had me in it, but since the microphone is masked out, it just says that. That's pretty cool. Similarly, we have yellow rounded rectangle. Yes. So, it's beautiful how it has renamed everything. So, let's create a brand new layer at the top to test this. And let's just name it something. We are going to take a brush and just make something in there that doesn't make sense. So now I'm going to click there again and entire document all the same settings. Hit apply. And now it says your document is clean. So I guess it works when you have not actually named the layers. So it doesn't change anything. Also another thing you would notice that it did not change the adjustment layer names like grain two copy 2. It stays the way it is. gradient fill to copy. It doesn't change that. It should have done something. It should have made it somewhat cleaner, but it doesn't look at that. Let's take a look at another example to see how good or bad the recognition is. Here I have written something with a simple brush. I love on one layer, teaching on another layer. And here's a simple pattern background. We are going to click on the same button and then hit apply to the entire document. By the way, the great thing is if you don't like the renaming, you can always go back by pressing control or command Z. So, the renaming is gone. Control or commandshift Z to redo. Undo. Redo. You know the shortcuts. And it just says white text on light background. Copy. It should have said I love and teaching. It does not recognize that. And also, it doesn't recognize these layers. It could have written something like leaves pattern or even here black background. And by the way, how hard was that? It's just so easy to write it yourself and stay organized. Now, this feature, although not perfect, is a nice addition to have. But does it consume credits or does it use internet? Let's do a live test. First of all, to check your credits, just go to the home screen or click on the home icon right there. And in here, click on your profile. And here it will show you how many credits you currently have. So currently I do have 5960 credits. Remember that number. Now we going to go back to Photoshop workspace by clicking on the Photoshop icon in the corner. And here in this funny example, don't focus on the design. I wanted to have everything to see if it recognizes people and even animals like dogs and cats. So let's again click on that button. Hit apply with everything turned on. And it says no eligible layers to clean up. What the heck? So I finally figured out unfortunately why all of them were not working because these are smart objects. If you were to select all of these layers, select the top one, hold the shift key, actually select all of them, select the bottommost one, right click on it and then choose rasterize layers and even just unlock the background layer and then try clicking on that. We just need to apply to the entire document and hit apply. And now it seems to be working. Hopefully it will give right answers. And there you have it. Woman in yellow shirt. Woman in red dress. Woman's profile portrait. Dog. Again, woman cat. Man in blue shirt. Abstract gray textured surface. It does recognize everything. But then again, it doesn't work with smart objects. Why Adobe? Why? We Do you want us to be destructive? So, does this mean that if I were to create a new layer and create a smiley in that layer by taking

a brush, just drawing a smiley just like this, and then convert that into a smart object by right clicking on it and choosing convert to smart object. And then if I click on this layer and apply it to everything, let's see if it does anything to that. It keeps layer five, layer five. Why? That's not good. Now remember we talked about how much credits we have a little while ago and between that and then we have applied it a few times. So let's see if this has eaten into our credits. So let's go to the home screen and click on our profile icon. And here as you can see we still have 5960 credits the same that we had before. So at the moment of recording this video at least in beta this does not consume credits. I cannot promise anything for the future. Now here's another question. Does this feature need internet? A lot of us have concerns with that. So live I'm going to turn off my Wi-Fi right there. Wi-Fi is turned off as you can see. Clearly turned off. Now we are going to try working on this document again. As you can see random names. Let's click on the cleanup. Click on apply. No, it does not work. It asks you to check your internet connection. So this does require internet for this feature to work. So I hope Adobe makes something more robust like that. So what do you think? What are your thoughts? Do you think this feature is cool? has shortcomings? Let's talk about it in the comments. Thanks so much for watching this video. I hope you enjoyed this and if you did, make sure to give us a like and also don't forget to subscribe and not just subscribe. Ring the bell so that you my friend don't miss any other future tips, tricks or tutorials. I'll see you in the next one. Till then stay tuned and make sure that you keep creating. — I don't see your shortcomings. Uh, you'll be running when I raise the black flag.
