Albert Einstein, the genius who changed everything. Our story begins in 1879, the year that Albert Einstein was born. Let me set the scene for you. It's a blustery spring day in the city of Olm in southwest Germany. As rain lashes against the window panes, a small group of people are seated in an otherwise empty room. They are gathered around a cradle to welcome the newborn son of Herman and Pauline Einstein. The child will be named Albert after his maternal grandfather. And though no one could have guessed it at the time, this quiet and seemingly unremarkable birth would change the world forever. As we look out over the sleeping face of the infant Einstein, a soft, lilting classical melody fills the air. We pan across the faces of family members who have come to meet the new baby. There's Albert's father, Herman, a successful engineer and businessman, and his mother, Pauline, a former teacher who is known for her gentle and caring nature. The young Einstein are soon joined by their second child, a daughter they name Margo. The two siblings grow up sharing a deep bond, though they are quite different from one another. Albert is a quiet and thoughtful boy, while Margot is more energetic and outgoing. Their parents do their best to provide them with a happy and stable childhood, but this is not always easy. Once again, he prefers to explore the world on his own terms. Spending hours at the public library reading books on science and philosophy. Albert's independent streak and refusal to follow the rules get him into trouble with his teachers. They consider him to be a disruptive influence and often punish him for his behavior. However, there is one teacher who recognizes Albert's unique abilities, a kindly older woman named Jetta. She encourages his love of learning and becomes one of the few adults who truly understands him. By age 12, it is clear that Albert is not like other children.
