One of the hardest parts of being a human being in 2024, 2025, or 2050 is that unless you want the stereotypical life of 2. 5 kids, white picket fence, going to go to your traditional medical school and become a doctor, there really is no road map for how to live an incredible life that's meaningful to you. So, if you don't want to follow the traditionally prescribed life path, what do you actually do? So, in this video, I want to share a 12step plan to help reinvent your life and make it incredible. What's up, guys? Guys, it's Alex Hine over at Modern Health Monk and author of the book about figuring out what to do with your life, Milk the Pigeon, a field guide for anyone lost in their 20s. Let's jump in. If you don't plan your life, somebody else will. And what they have planned for you is not that much. No matter the age that you are watching this, life doesn't plan anything for you. Grant, no one has anything planned for you that's going to be that epic life that you dream of. If you feel like deep down there's something profound that you were designed to do in this world, I believe that there is something profound you're designed to do. But if you follow your parents and society and your teachers and all of these people, you're probably not going to make that a reality. You see this split a lot in people in their 20s and 30s because in your 20s, the main thing is a lot of people think that life is just going to work out. When you're in your 20s, you don't really have a plan for life necessarily. And I think we tend to have this sort of rosecolored glasses where we think things will naturally just happen. You're just gonna find the right guy, the right girl at the right time and have babies and be happy. You're just going to get that six-f figureure job without any sort of strategy. It'll just fall into your lap. But a funny thing happens as you age. As someone who's nearly 40, I can tell you those things do not normally happen on their own. In fact, none of the dreams you want to have happen will naturally happen on their own unless you actually do something about it. And that's where the path of deliberate living and goal setting comes into play. Because when you actually have a strategy for your life, you are like someone who is paddling a canoe and you're going and creating a new current. You're no longer just taking the current of the ocean or the lake or the river that you're in, but you're actually creating a new current. And that new current is giving you momentum in the direction you want to go in, not just the direction that the tides are going in. now because feeling lost about what to do in life. You're not really sure what the next thing is for you and maybe you're going through a midlife or a quarter life crisis. You're trying to figure out what the hell to do with your life and how to find not only a life but also work that you love that's meaningful. Make sure you download my brand new guide, which is a 12step guide for reinventing yourself and basically living out your oh my god, my life is incredible kind of existence. So, that guide is a 90-day guide to reinvent yourself. It's a 12step process and it's the link right below this video or you can go to modernhealthmmon. com. So, now that you've downloaded that 90-day guide to reinvent yourself, my 12step process, we're going to walk through a simple journaling exercise that I use to think about how could I reinvent myself as quickly as possible. How could I go from lost and confused and what do I do next and I don't like my job to living out my holy crap, life is incredible kind of life. So, let's walk together through this journaling exercise because I'm going to go through exactly what I end up doing on a day-to-day basis to make that happen. So, let's talk about this 12step process to reinvent yourself. What I did to change my life was we figured out what are the top 12 domains of life that maybe let's say someone if they have them all together really make an incredible life. And I thought about what would be the truly the biggest rocks if you think about making my life amazing. So I thought number one was really about health, right? Because when you really don't feel well, you're really sick, you're out of shape, you're overweight, you don't have the energy to achieve any of these other goals. The next goal I put was really connection. Because when you think about what makes life worth living, very commonly for a lot of people when even when researchers look at the actual evidence over decades, one of the greatest predictors of happiness is how connected you are to people. romantic connections as well as friends. Then I wrote down the obvious ones like finances. I wrote down personal goals and aspirations, personal development, and then I wrote down other things like spirituality or religion. And then even just like other aspects you can put here, but for the sake of the video, we'll just pick a few. So what I did was I basically took this 12step process. is I mapped out 12 domains and I said for 90 days we're just going to either work on each one for a week or eventually what I did was I worked out for an entire year through this 12step process each one for a month so January February March April May June and for each one what I did was what are the top two habits that move the needle for this domain of life and so for health I was like okay it's how I eat and how much I exercise. So I put down like eat and exercise. Then I went to like connection. What are the top two habits? It was like time with friends

and family basically time with people. And then I wrote down finances. What are the main things? And it's like work I love and then basically just like savings. And then I went to goals. And I was basically like the two things are having goals and then the second thing is really having a process for achieving them. And all I did eventually over 12 months was for January, I would just focus on eating well and exercise one hour per day. And then for February, I'd focus on connection time with people, evenings with friends or evenings with family. And as I went through this 12step process, the one I really profile below this video, you know, at modernhealthmunk. com/lost, this exact process is what helped me reinvent my life and go from like lost and quarter life crisis to creating an amazing life. Now, maybe you're thinking, "Okay, 12 steps and 90 days or 12 months really seems like a lot to do. What do I actually do? " Alex, you know, I've told the story many times here of moving back from China in my early 20s. I had lived like this amazing bucketyear life. I went to China to learn from holy people and doctors and mystics and martial artists and kung fu masters. And when I came back, I got incredibly depressed. I went on this amazing year as an expat basically. And I was pursuing my like heart's desire, the dream I had always wanted to do since I was a kid. And then when I come home, everyone was the exact same. All my friends were the same. The same boring corporate jobs. Everyone at home was doing the same thing. No one was doing anything interesting. No one had interesting stories. No one was pursuing their goals and dreams. And I felt very confused about why I was so unhappy. I mean, I literally just went back to the same life that I'd left like a year and a half ago. How could I be so unhappy coming home? One thing I learned was when you are reinventing yourself, there's two domains of life that are the most helpful to get your life better faster. The first domain of life is really working on whatever part of your life sucks the most. This is the area of your life I visualize as just grind it out. Maybe you've just been out of shape for years, like 20 or 30 lbs overweight. You cannot shake the weight. You're sluggish. You're tired. You you're not motivated. Maybe it's your fitness that you have got to get on lockdown. And I find if that is the domain you struggle in, grind it out. Focus on that domain as one of your core domains of life. Because the negative inertia, the gravity, the weight of a domain of life where you're really not doing well, health or illness or finances, mentally it tugs on you every day. And that is a negative force that's going to make it very, very difficult to actually succeed with all of your other goals in the long run. Just thinking about what domain of my life do I complain about the most? Focus on that. Number one, as someone who always wanted to be an entrepreneur, finances was a very tough part for me because I was working all of these other gig jobs so that I didn't use all my mental space and creative energy for someone else's business instead of my own. So, I had to always work multiple jobs. And now, even 10 years later, I still have multiple jobs. They're just multiple businesses. Domain of life number two that I would focus on is whatever excites you the most. These are like opposite ends of the same kind of pole, right? The spectrum. And when I think back to my 20s, the thing that I would focus on the most was really my entrepreneurial dreams. I would work my 9 to5 job as a marketing associate or for $22 per hour. I'd work 9 to5 and then I would go to the gym from 5:30 to 6:30. And then 6:30 to 7 I would drive to the same cafe 700 p. m. to 10 p. m. I would buy dinner at the cafe and a tea and I would work on my business 7 till 10 p. m. And I just did that every damn day for 3 years until I made enough money to quit my job and go all in on my business from YouTube. As time has gone on, I think about what happens if I didn't make that sacrifice and how much meaning and energy and motivation did me building this side hustle give to my life because it gave a direction. That's one of those things that I really think about as something that was dramatically transformative to my life because when you don't have a direction, it's very hard to have energy and motivation. While building a business or reinventing your health or starting to date again when you really don't want to date again or starting over in a new city, while those things are hard, it's a lot harder to live a boring ass life. Just one guy's opinion. And one of the main categories that I focus on, you know, when I mentioned this 90-day guide, the 12 steps to reinvent your life, one of the main things I included on the worksheet below is this idea of making meaning and direction a goal for your life. Having a goal of having direction is one of the most understated ways to live a more incredible and epic and meaningful life. So, make sure you check it out down there below. Now, while this 12step process is something I've used with many, many of my coaching clients, one of the things that I haven't discussed here is that there's a specific process beyond just these 12 steps. It's a four-step process that I use for designing my dream life, and I

go through it every single year when I set goals. And I've shot a related video on this exact topic right here.
