If you have Wi-Fi at home, you need to watch this. The FBI and NSA just issued an urgent joint warning for every American with home internet. You need to reboot your router right now. FBI and the NSA found out that a famous Russian hacking group has been able to exploit vulnerable home Wi-Fi router. I am Kaylin. I'm a cybersecurity data breach expert and I want to help you protect your home Wi-Fi. Let's go. They're doing this to get into sensitive work systems, basically anything they can get. So, if you work from home and you're going on your home Wi-Fi, you really need to follow these next steps. They're doing something called DNS hijacking, which basically means that they're silently changing your router settings, so anytime you go online it actually goes through their servers first. So, if you're typing your password, doing anything, they're going to be seeing it on their server side before it even gets to your actual browser. Which means that they can have access to every smart device in your home, your phone, your laptop, your ring camera, your baby monitor, literally anything that's connected to your home router. Here's FBI's exact checklist on how to fix it. First is to unplug your router for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. For tech experts, you know this is a solid start to fixing any issue with tech. Second, and this is I think is one of the most important, is to log into your admin panel and change the default password. I say this all the time. The way you can log in is flip your router over and it usually shows how you log in and honestly the password is usually admin admin. And if that's the case, you really need to change your default password. Third is to install the most recent firmware updates. You can see this once you actually log in, so it'll say if you're up to date. Fourth, if your router is so old it doesn't even have updates, it's time to get a new one. And fifth, turn off remote management. If you're new to the cybersecurity girl page, you know that I post daily simple tips to keep you safe. Stay safe out there.
