scrolling. We pretty much all do it, and we kind of have a good excuse. I mean, we know that we want our phones with us so that we can communicate with our friends and family, and it's so helpful to have Google Maps handy, right? And there's also just so many things that we can't do in this modern world with our phone. I'm talking about like checking into things, signing into things, doing things at our bank, all those different systems. So, we have our phones on us, and then we get bored. So, we pull out our phones and we start scrolling. And of course, that looks different for different people. Some of us, we love YouTube. If you're listening to the podcast, I'm raising my hand here. Others are straight-up addicted to Instagram or Reddit, or they just can't help themselves but post on X. And so, I'm not even just talking about the actual scrolling. It might also be the posting, you know, posting those stories on Instagram or making reels, right? But we're doing things that we don't feel great about. about them because we feel, and maybe even know, that they are a waste of our time. But, how can we escape this trap when our phones are just so handy and we want something, just a little something to fill our time while we're waiting for something or trying to relax? Well, over the past few weeks, I've been doing a lot of research on things that we can do on our phone instead of scrolling. Things that we can spend a few minutes on here or there, or we can spend a bit more time on if we want to. But all things that are straight-up not a waste of time. Specifically, things that we can do on our phones that are easy, that will actually make us money instead of just sucking away our time. Now, I think the best way to understand the plethora of options that I have found is to categorize them. So, specifically, here are the categories we're going to be looking at today. First, we've got things that you can do on your phone that are very task-based. They're kind of like gig work, and there are several different apps that you can use to do small tasks on your phone that you will get paid for. The next category is client services. So, these are essentially like businesses you can start from your phone where you are going to be doing services for clients, but they're services that you can do entirely on your phone. The next category we've got is local. So, these are things where you're going to not entirely do them on your phone. You're going to do a lot of the work on your phone to maybe get the job or get the opportunity or make the connection, but then you're going to stand up and move your body and actually do something in the real world, which really might be the ideal. And then we've got a category, the final category we will look at, which is ways that you can make money by creating content. You probably already know about some of those opportunities, but I can't make a video about how to make money with your phone without talking about some of those opportunities as well. Okay, so let's get into it. Starting out with these task-based things that you can do on your phone to make money. So, there are

### [2:56](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiChU39k11A&t=176s) Microtask apps: Amazon MTurk, Remotasks, Clickworker, Respondent & Prolific

a bunch of different apps that you can sign up for that you can do these little tasks, these microtasks, on your phone and actually get paid for them. Some of these apps include Amazon Mechanical Turk, also called Amazon Mechanical Turk, Remote Tasks, Clickworker, and then also Respondent and Prolific. So, what are each of these different apps? Okay, first of all, Amazon Mechanical Turk, also called Amazon Mechanical Turk. So, this is a whole side of Amazon that maybe you've never heard of, but basically, they are in this business of brokering skills, okay? So, you sign up with Amazon Mechanical Turk, and you get access to a gazillion different microtasks that you can complete. They're called hits. They're things like surveys, data labeling, and reviewing content. So, you are going to be basically like looking at things and answering questions about them. That's what most of these tasks are. They might be for quality control, it might be for training AI, helping Amazon categorize things. Now, for each of these microtasks, you generally only earn a few cents, but each one only takes you a couple minutes to complete. So, you end up earning about $3 to $12 per hour. Now, is that a living wage? Not in most places, obviously, but it's way better than just wasting your time on social media. Another one of these apps is called Remote Tasks. I think I'm saying that right. So, it's a lot like Amazon Mechanical Turk, except that it focuses mostly on AI data labeling tasks, and there's a fair amount of training you can do with Remote Tasks to get access to more advanced tasks that pay better. So, you can often earn a little bit more with Remote Tasks, although there's not as many tasks available in the system. And then one more app that lets you do these microtasks is called Clickworker. This one also pays a little bit better than Mechanical Turk, and the tasks mostly are writing tasks where you're going to be typing things in to explain things or to label things or to improve responses. Now, still within this category of small tasks you can do entirely on your phone, but slightly different from those previous apps that I've mentioned is that you can participate in research studies. Now, these pay a bit better than the microtasks do, but they're not quite as available. There aren't quite as many of them for you to participate in. Two different ways that you can participate in these research studies though are with Respondent and Prolific. And by the way, I'm going to be including links to all of these different like apps and services down in the description below. So, if you want more details on any of this stuff, make sure that you open up the description box down there. Now, with these research studies, you can earn anywhere between about $10 an hour up to about $100 per hour. Like I said though, there just aren't as many of them, and you of course have to qualify for any individual study. And I don't mean you need like some advanced qualification. I just mean that you need to be like the target market that they're looking for. Some of these are market research studies, some of them are consumer surveys. There are all sorts of different research studies that you can participate in, but you will need to be the type of person that they're looking for. So, you will fill out a short application with Respondent or Prolific, and then you can get matched with these studies. So, I think an overall theme of this video is if you want to make money with your phone, it's great to combine some of these different options. For example, you might sign up for all of the different things that I've mentioned so far, Mechanical Turk and Remote Tasks and Clickworker and Respondent and Prolific. And for the things that pay better, but there's fewer opportunities, there might be a little bit of waiting where only every couple of days you get one of those opportunities, but when you do, it pays really well. And then while you're waiting, you can be doing the little tasks over on Mechanical Turk just to supplement the income that you're making from the bigger tasks. Now, honestly, when I set out to do the research for this video, I was not trying to figure out a way that somebody could make a full-time living from their phone. I just was thinking like, what can on our phones instead of wasting our time scrolling? But what I ended up finding is that there are so many opportunities out there for making money with your phone that you actually could earn a full-time living with it. But I'm kind of getting off the main point. Let's keep on going with the next category of work that you can do from

### [7:16](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiChU39k11A&t=436s) Client services: short form content producer, community moderator or engagement manager, local lead connector

your phone. So, these next three options, they're a category that I'm labeling client services. So, these are all basically businesses that you can start from your phone. Now, these aren't businesses where you need to like build a big personal brand or grow a huge audience or anything like that. You just need a few paying clients, and you can definitely find those by just doing a little bit of networking online. So, let's talk about what some of these services are. First up, we've got being a short-form content producer. So, a lot of the time it's easiest to make short-form content, and mostly here I'm talking about things like TikToks or reels or YouTube shorts, short videos. But this definitely also could be Instagram feed content or posts on X or posts on Facebook or anything like that. All of that content, because it is small, is relatively easy to create on your phone. So, what you can do is you can create that short-form content from long-form content that other creators are creating as a service to them. So, for example, me, I love making long-form YouTube videos, and I like writing blog posts and emails and things like that, but I actually don't really like creating content for Instagram or creating short-form videos. I just find that it's overly time-consuming for a smaller payoff. So, it's super helpful to me to hire someone who specializes in creating that short-form content to take my long-form YouTube videos and turn them into short-form videos. And I'm definitely not the only creator who feels that way. Now, the biggest challenge with this business is definitely competition. There are a lot of people out there who think that this sounds like a great option, and they are out there pitching their services to content creators and trying to land them as clients. So, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd. So, personally, I would recommend that you focus on networking first and then offer your services to these content creators rather than cold pitching, cuz I can't tell you how many emails I get every week from someone offering to turn my long-form YouTube videos into short videos. It's a great option and opportunity, but there's just a lot of competition out there. Now, something that there is a lot less competition for though is the next opportunity that I want to tell you about, which is that you could be a community moderator or an engagement manager for somebody who has either an audience or a paid or free community. So, this might be an entrepreneur who has a membership site or a Facebook group or any sort of like paid community, or like I said, a free community, or even just moderating their comments on their YouTube videos or their Instagram posts. Now, this is work that's really easy to do from your phone because you're just deleting comments or responding to comments. So, the phone is the perfect tool for this. Again here the name of the game is going to be networking because you have to meet somebody who has such a community. Now, the best way to network with people like this actually is to be in their communities. So, if you're interested in getting an opportunity like this, which by the way could be your full-time job, or it could just be something that you do for a few hours a week for a little bit of a side hustle. Either way, if you participate in communities that you would like to become a moderator or a manager for, that's a great way to get to know the owner of the community, especially if they are actually in need of the service. By which I mean, if they are right now moderating or managing the community themselves, then it'll be easy for you to get to know them, and they are the very people who need help, not the people who already have a big team that is doing this work for them. Now, there are many more client services that you could do from your phone, but I didn't want to clutter this video up with too many different ideas that are for this specific category because I know that a lot of you might be more interested in work that is more like what you can do with Amazon Mturk, for example, and you aren't actually interested in building a business. But, I do have one more idea here for you that is a client service that you could offer. It is more like building a business, and this last one I was actually kind of struggling with which category it should go into because it fits in this category. It is a client service, but it also kind of fits in the local category that we're going to look at next. So, what it is to be a local lead connector. So, this is basically where you are offering a service to a local business where you are fielding their leads for them. So, people who call up the business or who text the business, you are essentially going to be kind of like the secretary who filters these leads and qualifies them, and then helps them sign up for the services that business offers, or once you qualify them, you just help connect them to the person who they would need to talk to next to learn more about the services, or product, or place their order, or something like that. So, for example, you might do this for a cleaning company, or for a realtor, or for a construction company. There are so many local businesses out there, and while some of them have big teams, a lot of the small businesses don't have big teams. They don't have a physical office, secretary, and so when they are on the job working, when they are cleaning a house, or when they are doing a remodel project, showing a house, they can't be answering their phones, so they miss a lot of leads. So, if you can be that person who is standing by, you know, you've got your phone ready, and you aren't busy with something else, and you can answer the phone, or you can shoot that text back quickly, then this can be a really valuable service that you can offer to these businesses. Now, there's two different ways you can do this. One way is where you're just answering the phone, texts. And for that, most businesses are willing to pay like a lower monthly retainer rate for that service, or a relatively small rate of just a few dollars per lead that you respond to. On the other hand, if you want to build this out into a bigger business and earn more with it, then what you can do is you can actually offer advertising services for these companies where you can advertise for them. Now, this would require a little bit of an investment, so it's going a bit beyond the scope of this video, but you could, for example, run ads for them on Facebook, you know, with Meta ads or Google ads, or even do local advertising on the radio, or with billboards, or, you know, all sorts of different things. Long story short, you are actually generating leads for these companies, and you're fielding them, and then you're just passing on the qualified leads to them. And if you do that, businesses are willing to pay a whole lot more for each lead. We're talking anywhere between 50 to hundreds of dollars, depending on what the service is that the business offers. Obviously here, again, one of the biggest challenges is making those connections. And if you want opportunities like this, I would recommend doing local networking, actually going to local networking groups, and getting connected with some local business owners. You also, of course, can just walk into local businesses, or pick up the phone, and give them a call, and offer your services. Now, like I said, going a bit beyond the scope of this video cuz maybe you don't want to build a whole business also with something that's local, you know, not just entirely on your phone, which is this whole next category that we're going to look at, okay? So, here's your warning. You're going to have to move your feet for these next jobs, but they're also things that you can do in your spare time on your phone. And the

### [14:25](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiChU39k11A&t=865s) Local opportunities: marketplace arbitrage, mystery shopping, TaskRabbit, delivery and errand apps

first one of these is marketplace arbitrage. That's like the official name for this. Basically, it's where you buy stuff from Craigslist or Facebook, and then you resell it at a higher price. Now, there are kind of three main ways that people do this. One way is where they buy local, and then they sell online because, of course, there are a lot more buyers online, so you can oftentimes get higher prices for things if you sell them online. It's just a little bit more of a hassle cuz you have to like pack and ship the things. The second way people do this is they look for things that they could refurbish. So, for example, you look for a piece of furniture that's made of solid wood, it needs to be refinished. So, you buy it, and you refinish it. Or, you buy a car that needs to be fixed up, right? Okay, so now we're definitely talking about things you do off your phone. The last way people do this is they just look for deals, and when they see something that somebody's asking a really low price for, they snag it, and then they post it for a higher price, and they are patient. They wait for somebody who's willing to pay that higher, but still reasonable price. This one might be a good option for you if you like shopping, you like hunting for deals, and like I said, you don't mind moving your feet. Okay, now this next opportunity, it's still local, but it requires, I would say, a lot less initiative than the previous one. It's more plug and play. It is mystery shopping. Now, is mystery shopping a real thing? I did a lot of research on this. I had to figure out like, do people actually get paid for this? So, yes, they do. It's a real thing. There's actually a bunch of apps you can use to do mystery shopping and make pretty good money with it. The tasks are, in some ways, kind of similar to the very first category we were talking about, like Amazon Mturk and remote tasks and things like that. They're these micro tasks where you are going into stores, you are looking at prices, you're looking at products, you're scanning barcodes, and you aren't necessarily shopping. And I think that that's kind of the misnomer. You won't necessarily buying anything, but you are more like scouting out prices and finding out what prices different stores are charging for different items. And who wants this information? Well, their competition, of course. So, basically, you're being like a spy for other stores. So, I found three different apps that you can sign up for to get these mystery shopping jobs. They are Field Agent, Gigwalk, and Observa. Now, with each of these, you're going to be paid anywhere between 3 to 25 dollars per task, and the tasks will take you probably between 15 minutes up to an hour to complete. And those times, they do include the travel time because, obviously, traveling to the store is going to take most of the time, not just like scanning a barcode. And so, with that range of 3 to 25 dollars and 15 minutes to an hour, basically, this means that you're going to end up earning anywhere between about like 6 dollars an hour up to about 25 dollars an hour. Now, another way that you can make money from your phone, at least kind of, is with something like TaskRabbit. So, TaskRabbit is like a local task app where it's kind of like meal delivery, except instead of delivering a meal to somebody, you know, taking somebody the food they bought from a restaurant, instead, you're going to their house or their business, and you're doing a task for them. Now, some of the most common tasks that people do are assembling IKEA furniture, but there are a bunch of other ones, like help with moving and hauling, handyman tasks, like minor repairs, mounting pictures on the wall, installing things, or cleaning tasks for homes or for offices, or running errands or deliveries, organizing, personal assistant work, pet care, or helping out with small events. Now, how much can you earn doing these odd jobs for people? Anywhere between 15 and 85 dollars per hour. Now, of course, this totally depends on what the work actually is and how skilled you have to be able to do that work, and your rating on the TaskRabbit app. Because, of course, people are looking at your rating before they choose to hire you. So, that really will be the name of this game is getting some jobs on your resume and getting some high ratings from those jobs so that you are a sought-after worker on TaskRabbit. And then finally, in this local category, I can't really talk about TaskRabbit and that sort of thing without also talking about something like Uber Eats. So, there's Uber Eats, there's DoorDash, there's Instacart. These are all different apps that you can use to get gigs where you are delivering food either from restaurants or from grocery stores to people. Now, this one is mostly not on your phone, I would say. Yes, you get the opportunity from your phone, but then you are off to the races. So, I'm mentioning it, but it's only kind of a way you can earn money from your phone. Okay, and now we come to the last category, which is ways that you can make money by making content with your

### [19:04](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiChU39k11A&t=1144s) Create content: YouTube, Instagram, TikTok

phone and posting it with your phone. There are two main ways you can do this. The first one is directly from the content. So, you can film YouTube videos on your phone and edit them post them via your phone. You can make short videos and post them on Instagram or YouTube or TikTok. You can build an audience on X or on Facebook or on Instagram, or you could even build your email list. But, one way or the other, you are creating content, you are building an audience, that's like the key part here, and then you can monetize that. And there is lots of different ways you can monetize that, but for this first option, what I'm talking about is earning money from the content itself, either directly from the platform, like how we make money from ads here on YouTube, or how Instagram is now paying creators as well for content that they post on Instagram, and they're paying them for the ad clicks that content generates, just to be clear. You also, of course, could earn money from working with sponsors, and then promoting sponsors' products in your content that you're already creating. How much money can you earn from this? Well, it all depends on how big your audience is. Here on YouTube, as an example, we generally earn around $10 for every thousand views that our videos get. The rates over on Instagram are a little lower. And then, as far as sponsors go, I mean, it's all over the place. Totally depends on how big and how engaged your audience is, though. But, I would say that very loosely, you can earn somewhere between 1 and $500 per month from every thousand subscribers you have. Again, very loose, but just to give you a ballpark. Okay, and now we come to the last way on my list of ways you can make money from your phone, and that is, again, through creating content, through building an audience, but selling your own products. So, you can start a coaching business or a course business where you are selling online courses entirely from your phone, especially if you delegate a few things strategically. What do I mean by that? Well, what I mean is, you can create content and you can post it to build the audience, and then you can even create the products, say by using your phone to film videos for your online course, and then you certainly can post them with your phone to an online course portal. And even easier is selling coaching services and then running the coaching calls via Zoom on your phone. Now, there will be some things along the way that would be a lot easier done on a computer, which maybe then you pop over onto your computer. But, if you don't have a computer, you could outsource these things. So, I'm talking about things like designing a sales page. That will be a lot easier done on a computer, so you might want to hire someone to do that for you, or else do it on a computer yourself. Also, editing videos. Whether it's for a course you're creating or for YouTube, you might want to hire a video editor. So, again, now

### [21:54](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiChU39k11A&t=1314s) Build a business: courses, coaching, products

we are getting into that territory of building a business. And I've got three things I want to say to you by that. First of all, is if you're not interested in building a business, remember where we started with this video. Check out some of those options, like Amazon Mechanical Turk, Clickworker, Remote Tasks, Respondent, Prolific. Those are all great options. You don't have to build a business, you can just do little tasks on your phone, kind of mindlessly, kind of like scrolling on social media, but be making money in the process. Second thing is, if you want to make more money via your phone, if you want to turn this into a full-time thing, these options where you are building a business, whether this is you doing services for clients, like we talked about earlier, or it is you building an audience and then selling products to them, either way, those are the most effective ways to make a full-time income just from your phone, which is so incredible that we can do that. And the third thing to say about building a business is, if you want some help with that, I have a free course. You can find it in the description down below. It's called Small Business 101. It's about eight videos long, and it's going to walk you through all the different parts of the process of starting and growing your own business. So, everything from like how to decide what business to start to how to make your business be legal, like legally register with your state, to setting up your business bank account and your basic finances, to setting up your website and growing your audience, creating products, selling, all of that is covered in this free course, Small Business 101. So, make sure you check that out down in the description and get yourself signed up. If you are ready to take this a little bit of further and not just have it be a totally passive side hustle, but actually turn it into your full-time thing that you can do from home, from your phone. And along that same line, if you are thinking about starting a business and turning into your full-time thing, I want you to check out this video right over here, because it's all about how to start a side hustle and then turn it into your full-time thing, and it doesn't go through all that like tiny little nitty-gritty of how to start a website, how to set it up, how to register your business, all of that, but it talks to you about the big picture strategy of how to scale your business and how to make a full-time living with it.
