In this live futures trading session, I focus heavily on the 200-period moving average as a key area of resistance while trying to determine whether price action is showing a true breakout or yet another fake breakout. I walk through my real-time thought process as I analyze the market, explain why certain setups catch my attention, and discuss the challenges that come with trading choppy conditions where the market can quickly shift from bullish to bearish.

During the session, I take a breakout trade that results in a quick profit, but as the market continues to struggle around the same resistance level, I explain why I become more cautious and ultimately decide that sitting on the sidelines is the smarter decision. This video highlights an important lesson in trading: sometimes protecting profits and avoiding low-quality setups is just as important as finding winning trades.

Hey, it's Clay at claytrader. com. This will be a live trade video where I try to capture some of my trades as they play out live. Couple quick clarifications. Number one, I'm trading futures. If you don't know what futures are, I'll put a link down below to a totally free four-part series that will walk through the futures market and how it all works. And then second, I'm trading futures through a prop firm. What is a prop firm? How does a prop firm work? Which one am I using? You can find all that at the link up at the top of the screen. I'll also put it in the description area. But in a nutshell, a prop firm is a way for you to have very little of your capital at risk and then you have a whole lot of upside potential. So if that sounds like something that could be of value to you, then check that out. So what I'm watching for right now is all about the pink line here, which on my chart is representing the 200-period simple moving average. You can see it's been a key area of resistance, but the one tricky part is there have has been some fake breakouts of it, too. Uh but I am interested in potentially a break up through that level. So watching that very carefully and we'll see what happens with it. And I do mean that. So when I say live, this is not a voiceover where I'm right now kind of playing stupid cuz I've already recorded everything and now I'm coming back and doing some sort of, you know, voice overlap thing. No, this is live. I'm recording myself right now in real time. So I have no idea what's about to happen. Maybe it turns out to be a beautiful trade. Maybe it breaks, I buy it, and then it dumps on me. Uh maybe it doesn't break out at all. So I don't know what's going to happen, but uh that is the current uh you know, that's the current goal. So I'll go ahead and pause the screen recording software for now and I'll be back uh as soon as I find a potential trade. All right, I'm going to go ahead and pick some up here. And let's see if we can get the break up through that area or not. Ooh. Now this is going to sound goofy, but yes, I made 810, which is don't get me wrong, but I thought I was selling a bit higher than that. But hey, I won't complain. But it did thought it would be a little bit higher than that. All right, let's see what else I can find. I'll go ahead and pause. So, a little bit of an update. Not a whole lot has been going on. Just relatively choppy down here. Um yeah, it's coming to life a little bit, but once again, that 200-period moving average, which I should have noted this earlier, but if you remember at the earlier part of the video, talked about if this area was a fake breakout, and that's actually what happened during that portion right there when I bought and made my trade. It turned out to be another fake break. So, yeah, it is through the pink line again, but maybe this is the short right now. I just don't know because that's what makes it tricky. Uh is this a genuine breakout, or is this yet another fake breakout? Hence, the question. So, yeah, that's why I'm kind of just sitting on my hands right now and not quite sure what to make of this uh cuz I could really see it going either way. Maybe this is actually a true breakout, or maybe just history repeats itself, it's another fake breakout. Uh and it feels like a coin flip to me. And while a coin flip, technically, you're not at a disadvantage cuz it's 50/50, you also don't have an edge. It's not like you have any sort of advantages either cuz, by definition, it's a uh it's a coin flip. So, uh yeah, right there for a moment, it was looking like, "Okay, maybe it was going to be more of a breakout. " But now we're getting this kind of interesting-looking candle. So, um yeah, a nice first trade, I suppose, all things considered. And then after that, ooh. Now you look at this and looking like it was another fake breakout. I can see people getting suckered in there from the long side. And now maybe they maybe they're able to weather the storm, but you got to think they're starting to get a little bit of sweaty palms. But yeah, with this sort of price action, it's um sometimes the best trade is just no trade at all. So, that's where I am continuing to be. So, that's the current update on things. We'll see how it things uh continues to play out. Yeah, this action is just not it. Um I I mean, it's moving, don't get me wrong, but and as you just hear me stutter over my words, that is my inner self just not wanting to admit, but needing to admit, this is just um price action that is going to be very, very tricky to try to you know, trade. So, I'll just be grateful that I took that trade, sure. I thought it was going to be more than what it was, but after seeing how things have played out since then, — [clears throat] — I'm feeling a little bit more appreciative of it. So, yeah, if you have one of these mornings and it just doesn't quite feel right, it's okay. There will be always be um another opportunity, you know, at some point in the future, no pun intended.
