New merch alert. Some new t-shirts on the website designed by me. These are printed on as colors blank. So for my gar heads out there, you know that these are top quality t-shirts. The age-old artist question. Matte, satin, or gloss? This one took a little bit of screen printing trickery cuz each of these are printed in a different finish. And this one's like just hitting the website today. Hey, this was last month's t-shirt of the month based on that oil can I did in the UV printer video. My buy two get one free sale is going on for just a couple more days. 10hun. com. And if you can't decide what to get, there's the t-shirt of the month club where everything is 25% cheaper than normal prices. You get a surprise t-shirt designed by me every month. Comes with a free sticker. And you can use code make or break 40 to get 40% off your first month. Support the channel. Get some swag. Look good, baby. Okay, thrift art battle. Oh, there's the other artist. How you guys doing? — Okay, we have a very awesome battle for you today. We are going to be going to thrift shops. We're going to find some treasures. We're going to take them home, turn them into art, and in the end, we're going to show them off, and you, the viewer, vote on your favorite. There is a poll right now on my community tab. You vote, you decide the winner. We have three amazing artists who are going to be competing here today. First up, we got Flap Jake. How you doing, man? — Hello all my wonderful people of the world. I am doing amazing. — Next up, we got Jen Llewellyn. How you doing, Jen? — Hi, everyone. So, nice to meet you. — So glad to have you here. And lastly, we got Adriana. How's it going, Adriana? — Hello, everybody. I'm really excited about this art challenge. This is going to be a very special battle because all three of these artists were finalists in that Tarsy art competition I did a little while ago and they are going to be coming back to compete against each other. All three of them made truly epic pieces of art in that contest and I can't wait to see what they're going to be making today. Their Instagram, their YouTube channel if they have one is down in the description. Go give them a follow. So you guys, there's a little bit of a budget involved in this one. Last time I did this video, I gave each artist like 20 bucks. And then we all kind of quickly discovered that thrift stores have become slightly more expensive over time. So, I'm going to be sending each of you $50 for this challenge. And hopefully that's a little more breathing room. — Okay, more money is good. Okay, so you can go to thrift stores, antique garage sales, swap meets, just places where you find old, dusty junk that you can turn into masterpieces. Sound good? — Yeah, — sounds amazing. — Let's get this battle started with everyone's favorites, the wheels of doom. — Oh yeah, this is the animal wheel. Usually I don't paint animals, so will be a challenge for me. — Well, we know for a fact you did a good job on that tarsy and that's an animal. So — yeah, my first animal. — What about you, Jen? Is there anything jumping out to you on this wheel? — You know, I draw animals all the time. So I'm excited about any of those, but I think lemur would be really fun. — Axelottle. That sounds pretty good. They're funny looking. You know, they got the little thingies going on. You know, they're like frogs, but they're not. I don't know. — To me, they're the closest animal to a real life Pokémon. All right. So, the animal will be — Oh, it's a lemur. — Okie dokie. Next up, we got the random object wheel. There's a bunch of objects on this wheel. Whatever this lands on, we have to involve in our piece in some big or small way. I'm actually going to be spinning this wheel twice. So, the first random object is Oh, it's stuck on this side. A portal. Whoa. Okay, — we got a lemur. We got a portal. And last up, we got — Ooh, it's stuck on this side. Armor. — Armored. — Oh my goodness. I have so many ideas already. I just I can't wait to start sketching for this. — I just have a blank page in my I must do some research. — This is not what I was expecting at all. Portal for me is not even an object. I don't know how that works, but that's going to be sick. — All right, we got lemur, we got armor, we got portal. Good luck to you guys. It's time to go shopping. — Very nice. We are going thrifting. I got to find an object to turn into a masterpiece. Don't look at the trash. — I can paint one of these. This would be pretty hard. — A cool shelf. We need just need a shelf. — We just buy it for ourselves. — You can just buy that for us. You remember these things? — Yeah. — Oh, it doesn't work. — Oh, maybe you can make some.

### [5:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6BdzjDPEic&t=300s) Segment 2 (05:00 - 10:00)

— I can make some and paint them and it wouldn't it still wouldn't work. Typical goodness you would find at a Goodwill. — This is pretty sick actually. I think it's meant for dolls or something. Eight bucks, bro. If I get this and I just paint this, I get like a whole 40 bucks or something just all to myself. Look at this. This is predicting the future. This shopping center host this antique fairs once every few weeks where we can find lots of interesting vintage items. Hopefully, we'll see some stuff within our budget. Looking around at Value Village. See what we can get. This looks kind of cool. I like this. — I think we get this. And then like we go to another store and we can get something else that would go along with this. I am as they say a someone that knows how to knit. I know how to knit. This or that. There's more down here. New day, new thrift shop. I don't think it's for sale. This one looks very interesting. This plate is really nice. The dangerous section in every thrift store for us. — Back there is the Goodwill boutique. That's where we're going next. Aggravation sounds fun. That's an absolute classic. Painting over thrift shop paintings. I used to do this so much. Okay, so I got this saw. And even if I don't end up using this for this thrift art battle, I can still use my UV printer to turn it into a piece of 1000 merch, which I have on my Thrift Flips page on my website. I think I'm going to stop at one more place. I have my saw, so I think we're good, but can we be better? So, now we're going to go to some art thrift store. You get to fill up like a little bag. So, I got a whole bunch of stuff. I got some paint. I got some more yarn. And I got these. — All right. So, I finished the thrift shopping. I've got two objects, two options, and now it's time to do some research. Let's go draw some lemurs. This one is really nice. Let's see the price. Yeah, it's in the budget. We'll see what uh we can paint on this. — The antique mall. Let's go inside. Now, last time I did one of these, I did an oil can. Stop signs are always good. Well, there's the armor already taken care of. An old bottle. I don't know what it is, but I just love old cans. Outside, they got some good stuff, too. I just found this old box that just randomly has like two horseshoes inside of it. And then check this out. This old metal box right here is 20 bucks. The paint is scraping off. There's shelves inside. Rusty. I love dirty. I think this time it's going to be that metal box thingy. And I got my saw as a backup plan. Let's do it. All right. Got my metal nasty cupboard thingy. Would you call this a cupboard? — Cabinet. Okay. It's already giving off just tons of this dust up here. It's got a random state farm sticker on there. We'll see about getting that off. So, I figure I can paint like a big armored out lemur on the front here as a guardian. And then the portal itself will be this door here. That's like a portal into a new world. And inside of this nasty cabinet, maybe I can build out kind of a fantasy world inside of here. Probably too ambitious, but yolo baby. It's an art battle. Let's go for it. Also, another thing I forgot to mention is this insane jagged metal here. Like somebody cut this thing in the most grotesque way, like a slasher film. It's also pretty dented back here. Feel like this thing got hit with a car or a hammer or just fell off a wall or something. 20 bucks, though. Nick was just saying this is probably lead paint, so I'll try not to lick it. No promises. First, I had to get this sticker off here. So, I used some acetone and a razor blade. Then, I cleaned it and measured it. I hit the top with Gak 100 because this stuff basically makes any surface more paintable. While my Gak 100 was drying, I started sketching out my lemur concept that I'm going to paint on the door of this cabinet. But, things weren't going so smoothly. I'm just not liking this at all. I think I got to start over. I erased my first draft and started from scratch. But I'm glad I did cuz I think this one is turning out much better. Getting a decent sketch planned out is the road map for my final piece. And that's half the battle in my opinion. Put that Gak 100 on here, but I didn't realize how glossy this was. So, I think I'm going to hit this with some matte medium to cut down on this glossy sheen. Matte medium, baby. I put that on everything. Okay, sketch review. This is Leo the lemur. My first sketch, I tried to go super stylized with it, but this one worked out a little bit better. I went with the ringtail lemur cuz I thought it would be super fun to paint this tail kind of sitting on this rock here. I'm still in super mental pre-production mode on the interior of the cabinet. Doing a diaramaesque thing is completely uncharted territory for me, but I don't know, could be fun. It's time to get my sketch onto my cabinet. So, I busted out

### [10:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6BdzjDPEic&t=600s) Segment 3 (10:00 - 15:00)

my projector and used a white Posa paint marker to transfer my sketch onto the cabinet. Okay, I got my sketch on here. It's pretty loose and ugly. All I had was this relatively broad tipped paint marker. I thought I was going to be able to sketch on this because I laid matte medium on there, but it wasn't taking the pencil very well. But, I did put a couple more layers of matte medium on here and now my pencil is working pretty good. matte medium. One of the benefits is that it turns the surface into something that pencil or white charcoal can go on very easily. So, now that I have this kind of like loose, ugly sketch on here, I can kind of just like manually look at my original sketch and come in and refine the details as I paint on them with an actual pencil. So, with this on here and my surface prepped, I think it's time to start painting. It's always a good feeling when you finished all the steps in your prep work and you finally get to sit down to paint. And while I get started on the first bits of painting on this project, I'm going to let you know this video is brought to you by Squarespace. Squarespace is a website where you can build a website. Got some solid colors filled in. Got the sword going. The tails looking pretty good. Got kind of a strange painting setup here. I have this little short folding table which I have on its shortest setting because the box is so tall. My paint palette is up on this little Rubbermaid thing over here that is for resting my hand on while I paint so I have something to brace me while I'm all the way over on the edge making it work. But yeah, since this is just one simple character that doesn't have too much crazy elements, hopefully I can finish this today and then move on to the inside of this thing, which I still kind of have no idea what I'm going to do for. Man, with these thrift challenges, I just wonder what these other artists are doing. It could be anything. Whatever they find at those thrift stores, but I guess I'll find all that out at the final reveal call. Let's finish this painting. — Just calling to check in on my competition. How's it going, man? — It is going interesting. I wouldn't say good. It's not taking quite as long as I thought it would. It's taking longer. The first time I applied the paint on the object, it spread on the surface like a spider web. — Oh no. So, you're struggling with your thrift shop item. — Yes. Oh my goodness. It is so much fun, but it's also really intimidating. I haven't painted traditionally like this in years. It's been digital and art directing and doing my own thing is kind of crazy. — Ooh, you're painting, huh? That's exciting. — Yeah, a little bit. I don't want to give away too much, but it's like mixed media. I had this idea and I was like, I could do that. And now that I'm doing it, I'm like, I can't do this. — What do you think your chances are of winning this battle? — I don't know. Usually, I'm not confident in myself. I'm intimidated. — Reflective metal. Okay, the outside of my cabinet is painted. I'm loving the way this painting turned out. I think it's super cool. Now I need to work on the inside. The part where I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen here, guys. At least that's cool. I got my lemur. I got my armor. Now, what the heck are we going to do here? First, let's clean this thing once again. And now, I know I'm going to want to spray paint the inside of this thing. So, let me tape off everywhere that I don't want spray paint to be. I decided to hit the inside of this thing with just a nice teal gradient. I figure that background color can be my sky. Okay, I'm out shopping for my diarama. First, Home Depot. I want to see if I can put some easy closet lights in this thing. What are these? Motion activated. Wireless. No batteries, no tools, magnetic. Are these the ones? Okay. And then I think I want some square dowels just for like some square surface to mount stuff to for my diarama. Oh, the rain's coming. Oh my gosh. I don't know if you can see way out that window out there, but the sky just turned black and it is pouring. Oh, hell no. Oh, it's blowing in. Get to the car. Get to the chopper.

### [15:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6BdzjDPEic&t=900s) Segment 4 (15:00 - 20:00)

No big deal. Just a little rain. I'm going to drive to Michaels now and probably sit in my car for a little bit while I wait for this monsoon to pass. Little bit wet. Made it inside. Let's see what we got. Ooh, foam core. I could get a little bit of this. Those kind of look like instigators. Paint some little eyes and a mouth on them. Little jungle thingies. There's some bugs. Pom poms. Let's get a couple white. We're getting real crafty in this episode. Your boy is actually going to the craft side of Michael's arts and crafts. I usually stick to the arts side. I've decided to leave Michaels and just go to the jungle. Psych. Moss. Grass. Got some Mod Podge. Got some random other glue. I want some like dirt. Suppose I could just go get some dirt from outside. Did homie just buy dirt? I might buy dirt. I might buy dirt if I can find some. Speak of the devil. $5 tub of rocks. And maybe I want this stuff. It's more coarse. That's pretty cool. Oh, there's moss. That's more like it. This is darn near 30 bucks. This looks better anyway. I don't know if I need this much moss. I definitely spent more than I wanted to, but should be cool if I don't mess it up. First, I tested out my lights. Then, I painted the bottom two shelves dark brown. I cut these dowels down to size so they could be places where I can mount things. Then I made a document in fresco that's the size of my shelves and got to work drawing some clouds. I used my UV printer to print out these clouds on foam core. Then I used an X-Acto blade to cut them out. This was not super easy to get through the thick foam core. Then I spray painted some more foam core to act as my mountains and hills in the background. Then I measured out the grass and cut it to be the size of my shelf. I mounted my clouds to the roof and put down a layer of sand in the underground shelf and then glued down my grass. cut out my mountains and installed those, too. And I made another layer of hills to hide that jagged cut on the shelf. And sprinkling the sand onto a layer of Mod Podge was going too slow for me. So, I mixed the sand into the Mod Podge and made kind of like a cement. I put my mountains back in and kind of decided my background hills were too tall. So, I cut them down a bit, put them back in, and now my background elements are looking kind of good. — Okay, I brought in reinforcements. — That's me. — This is my wife, Chelsea. She does like all kinds of model building. Hey, quit hitting the camera, Luna. She does all kinds of model building. She builds diaramas. Actually, she put a piece of art in my studio. Hey, Luna. And the first piece of art she ever sold was like a carved out book with like a whole little world built inside of it. You see yourself? So, I'm going to have her help me with this diarama cuz I don't know. — I'm going to try. He's hyping me up a lot. — All right. So, this is like underground. This is the forest floor. We got some mountains here. And then this is the sky. I got these little things. — Oo, little twinkles. — The thing is these shelves. So, like everything needs to be able to split to multiple layers. So, I was kind of thinking of like drawing an illustration of a tree and having like a tree character, but I need help like set dressing stuff. — Is this going to be cheating? — No, I don't think it's cheating. We're a team in life, — so art battles. — You're right. — And if they think I'm cheating, then I'll lose. I'm used to that with these art battles. I think it might give me bonus points cuz my audience loves you more than they love me. So, a vote for 1000 is a vote for Chelsea. — I think you should put like moss and stuff. Yeah, that would be cool. Some roots from the tree. — What if we did a tree? Yeah, the roots. And then it just goes all the way up. — I think a combination of like the crafty handmade spray painted art stuff with like the real stuff will be kind of cool once it's all swagged out. — Like your own little world. — All right, let's do it. — Yay. — There's definitely some big rocks out here for our underground layer. — That'll be good bark. It's like already peeling and dead. So Oh, look at the big bark next to you. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Need something for like roots cuz I can't really get the roots out. That's what I'm talking about. Those are some roots. Okay, maybe do that one more time or two more times. That's probably enough roots. Oh, yeah. They come under the rocks really easy. Like that. — That was like a little creature. — No, that's like from the guy from Harry Potter. The ones — Yeah, man. Draco. — Yeah, they're like I know we already have moss, but this moss looks good.

### [20:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6BdzjDPEic&t=1200s) Segment 5 (20:00 - 25:00)

Tell you the truth. I've been so high. I I' been so high. — I quickly taped up these lights to make sure they were the correct length. Then I was like, before we get too far into this, let's take all this tape and paper off. Chelsea did this awesome subterranean layer. Now I'm going to try and put the lights up and kind of hide the wires. We'll see if I can do that. We were looking for a tube to use as a base for our tree. Then we remembered, — oh wait, we have shipping tubes. — I needed to cut a couple pieces of tubes to be the correct size for the shelves, but they were too deep. So, I had to cut those chunks of tube in half as well so that they could fit on the shelves. I grabbed these beads that look like my instigator characters and drew little eyes and a mouth on them. These are just too perfect. Then Chelsea and I worked together cutting and gluing bark to this tube to create our tree trunk. Oh yeah, we got the beginnings of a tree. Then I started building out all the branches for our tree and adding strategically placed moss to create the leaves for the tree and also to hide the wires for the lights. And we did a lot more stuff after this, but honestly, I'll save the finished results for you to see in the final reveal call. — Oh, there they are. This is the moment that I've been waiting for. How you guys feeling about the final reveal. So good. I'm feeling fantastic. — Nervous. — Little nervous. Little fantastic. Let's jump straight into this. I got you guys' names inside of here and we will see who is going to present their artwork first. The first artist shall be Adriana. — I'm a bit nervous, so excuse me for that. — No worries. — Okay. The object that I bought for this challenge is a — Ooh, a lamb. — That's fancy. — Wo. — Oh, that's really cool. Initially, I wanted to take the lemur warrior and show him learning how to open a portal step by step. — Wo, cool. — In each of the four season, but then I realized the idea is a bit basic. So, I spiced it a bit and decided to use the four elements instead. And he has to master all four of them in order to be able to open a portal. I told this idea to my boyfriend and he said that my limour want to be a avatar from the Avatar the Last Air Bender and at first I was confused since the only avatar I know is one on Pandora that you saw in blue. So based on his recommendation, I starting uh to looking at the animated show and the inspiration came from there. The stance, the environment, the colors and this is what I came up with. Here you can see the lemur in the jungle. arctic environment. Here you can see the lemur on a mountain top learning the air element. And uh here you can see the lemur on a volcano using his uh fire skill. — That is so cool. — Wow, that's awesome. — And maybe you wonder where I put the portal, right? Excuse me for a bit to close the lights. — We need some Avataresque music right now. — I hope you will see this because I use UV light. So here is the portal. — There it is. — That's amazing. Woah. — You can see that the armor glows. — Wow. That's awesome. That's so cool. — Here I use a painting that charge from the UV. So basically must glow up in the dark. And that's it. I don't know how good you see in the camera, but I also have record the video. — Okay. — Oo. Awesome. — That is sick. — That looks so cool. Holy cow. Yeah. I love how it glows. Oh, it's like that's Momo, — bro. I need Avatar themed laser tag right now. — This one is so awesome. — Yeah, you went ham on the fire with the UV. That's really cool. It's like glowing embers. That's awesome. Do you have any pictures without the UV? — Uh, yeah. Here you can see. — Nice. Amazing. That's a beautiful lamp, too. — I think uh this one I like the most because the limo was is bigger and I have more space to add the details. — It must have been so hard to paint on. But like where do you put your hands? Where do you rest your hand for support? Did you have to use like a mall stick or like — No, just like this.

### [25:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6BdzjDPEic&t=1500s) Segment 6 (25:00 - 30:00)

— Oh yeah, that's a tricky surface to paint on for sure. Wow. Tough act to follow right there. — The jar of doom is back. — The next artist shall be Oh, it's me 1000. Okay, so this is my object right here. Let me get this chair out of the way. All right, so here is the big reveal. — Oh my goodness. — Wait, what is it? What's the What's it painted on? — It's painted on a vintage metal cabinet. And I painted this like kind of warrior lemur, this golden armor. The texture of the cabinet is all chipped and painted. It was super crazy painting all of this fur because like the fur overlaps the armor. So, I would paint some fur and then I would paint the armor and then I'd come back in with more fur to lay over the armor and then sometimes the armor goes over the fur. So doing like hard metal combined with ultra furry creature is definitely a unique challenge, but I am very pleased with how it turned out. And a lemur is such a cool animal with that ring tail. — That's a really cool animal. — Yeah, — but there's different types of lemurs. I didn't even do that much research. — Just like Adriana said, you may be wondering where my portal is. And my lemur is a guardian of his worlds, and he protects the portal to his utopia. So if the lemur likes you, he will let you pass and enter through the portal into this world. — A diarama, — a diarama with this like ancient tree that gives life to this uh garden of Eden. And my wife Chelsea and I collabed on this diarama. She is like really talented at doing like models and stuff. So it starts with these clouds up here. There's a light up there shining down. moves down to the tree tops. The next shelf is kind of the uh the tree here. And I even got these little beads and drew little instigator faces on them. There's a bird right there. And the tree has a little face with like different kinds of bark that I added there. — Yeah, I can see that. — Oh, the little frog. — It's like the tree from Zelda. — Yeah, it's like the deu tree or something. Um and then we have some smaller trees here. This is kind of like the middle section down here. There's some more instigators. Oh, there's a little frog right there. And then you go down to the subterranean level and there is like the tree roots and there is some more frogs and snakes. And that is the portal of my piece. A portal into this world. And then of course the lemur is guarding the portal. So you got to get past Leo the lemur to enter. — I'm glad the lemur likes us. — So that's my piece. — That's amazing. Well done. — I really like all the details from the painting. I think that took a lot of time to create that. — No kidding. The fur is unreal. — You did that in 5 days. — Yeah, the sketch took me a day. The lemur took me like two days to paint. And then this took me like 2 days with the help of my beautiful, wonderful wife. I'm sure that some of the fans are going to say I cheated by having my wife help me. But — no, — no. — If I have to take some cheating allegations in exchange for a wonderful time collaborating with my wife, I'll take those cheating allegations all day. Well said, Peter. — The next artist shall be Jen. — Oh gosh, you got your wish, Jake. You got to go last. — Okay, so um I wanted to do something a little bit not digital cuz I tend to work all digital, but I originally just had a thought of what it would be. And I love Harry Potter and I love like Kung Fu Panda. So I wanted this lemur to be in my kind of cartoony style, but have that adventurous spirit, but also be able to transport. So, I went and had the lemur transporting in a box. Like Harry Potter, you could transport between different worlds. And my item was actually a very old cashier's box, and it was really rusted out and dented, and it was a lot of cleaning it before I could actually touch it to get rust off. So, I'm just going to show you. I'm going to grab the camera. So, — this is the out the outside of the box. So, I have just this armored helmet that I painted on it. — Sick. That looks beautiful. — So, that's all hand painted with acrylic. And you can see like the resting of the box. And then, — ooh, — what the heck? — So, on the inside, you can see that this is my adventurous lemur coming out of the portal. So, wherever the box is, it can transport from different worlds. There's a few mediums in there. I did a digital painting on the background. — Oh my gosh. — And printed that to come in. And then I modeled this guy in ZBrush and then the background in Blender and then 3D printed it. And then I hand painted it with miniature paints which I've never done — and was terrifying but really fun. And then I made the portal out of like fabric puffy fabric paints and then put the light behind and my daughter helped me with sparkles. — That's amazing. That looks beautiful. — Just show you the tiny little fur. — I love the colors coming out. I think that's so cool. The purple and it's like there's like a bridge to it as well. It reminds me of like — Yeah, a little bit of a bridge and a little pond. I wanted him to have like a really strong armored tail.

— Wait, is he floating? — Yeah, he's floating. He's balanced on his tail. — Oh man, that looks so good. — So, it was a mix of um digital art like sketching at the zoo and then bringing it into my sketch into Blender and mostly in ZBrush just sculpting cuz I'm not the greatest at just pushing pixels. Like for very man-made shapes, that's okay. But for organic, I really need to sculpt. — Wow. Normally for these art battles, I encourage artists to think outside the box, but both you and I thought inside. — I did. When I saw yours, I was like, "Oh, no. " So, that's the painting. I kept it very painterly cuz I didn't want to be like too detailed and not pop out from like distract from the character. So on the sides it's a little bit more detailed than it gives that um depth of field going in. So it's very hard not to go too rendered cuz usually I would sit and render in this for another few hours. Uh and then I just had the helm helmet sketch which I used your transfer type with the transfer paper which I've never done before and then sealed it which was pretty cool. It was a venture. And then this was my original lemur sketch and then that's what I took into Blender to model and then came with this brick sketch for the background. — That's so awesome cuz you painted a full helmet on the outside and you did like a really ambitious digital painting just for the background and you modeled like the Japanese gate and you sketched the lemur and modeled the lemur and then painted the lemur and Yeah, that's you went super hard. — Yeah, it was a lot of work. I'm not going to lie. And then all the little flowers. And — that's all like um like model home making things. I just went to the craft store and I found them and I just kind of put those in. And I actually took a tree and like sliced it apart and then put little elements of it in there. — I should have gone before her. No. These battles are getting so crazy. I'm never going to win one again. That was awesome. — Round of applause. — Thank you. — Beautiful. Okay, who's next? You want to pull another name out of the box? Who is it? — It's going to be FlapJ. — All right. All right, guys. So, I also have stepped outside my comfort zone in this challenge, but I had this vision. I'm like, "Oh, you know what's at the thrift stores? " You'll see in a second. You'll see what it is. Anyways, um let me show you what I found. A box. Oh my gosh. — Another box. — But it's what's inside the box that really counts. I'm going to grab my box here. Here it is. Ooh, we got the little frog in there. It's got a title, and you'll know why in a bit. I wanted to try doing something that was kind of taking style choices from Art Novo. So, it's like they got like really cool borders and like other things happening around it. Getting things to be symmetrical sometimes. That was tough. — Yeah, the colors are beautiful. — I really like the flowers and the perspective. — Thank you. — The bounce light coming off of the portal and shining up on the bottom of the flowers. story behind this uh scene that you see here. This is the hub of trading for all the animals in the forest. And originally my idea I had it was just going to be a pond, just a normal pond. And it's called pond cuz it's the trading place. You're pawning things off at the pond, you know. But this is a portal pond. When portal was landed, I was like, it's a portal. So you're trading the all the animals of the forest, they're coming, they're bringing their stuff, and they're trading things through the pond. But it is a box. Also, the box, it looks like a book. Inside the box, there's — Put something in the box. — Open. — So, inside the box, it's less about the painting, although I do think the stone tablet kind of is a little cool. And what's in the portal? This. What is this, you may ask? What I was thinking when I was in the gym, I was like, what's at Goodwill that I could get? Board games. I wanted to repaint a board game. This is a fully playable card game that I made. I also made these. These are part of the card game. These little guys, they're supposed to be little frogs. I've never crocheted. I've never block printed or at least I haven't since high school. We did block printing and spray painting. The steps to make the cards was crazy, but they are playable and I can get up the pictures now. Okay, there's the original. — Oh, it's like Disney trivia. — Yeah, I found this big stack of Disney trivia. I was like, that's perfect. I also found the yarn. There's me with the yarn. And I also thrifted in that crochet needle. There's all the little dudes. Those are so cute. That's awesome. — There's the cards. Each card. This took forever. There's 175 cards. Originally 180. The spray paint did not want to stick to the cards. So I was like, "Okay, awesome. Got to put gesso on them then. " Oh my goodness. It took so long to spray paint them all. — Are those all stencils? — No, they're block printing. You carve out one of these into a design and then you roll some ink on it, stamp it on. — That's crazy. So, you have six different designs there. — I have six different designs. Five for the card front, one for the card back. So, I had to print front and back. Every single one. It took forever. One of the days I woke up, started working on them until 3 and then went to bed. That was my day. So, that's some of the inside the stone kind of tablet thing that is covering the portal. Like the front of the box is you're looking at

the portal from the side. And then open the box, you're going inside the portal. Now, this is me play testing. It's really fun. It's a realtime game. It kind of plays like Dutch Blitz, just a little bit. It's a mix between Dutch Blitz, pit, and spoons. That's kind of the best way to describe it. — We play pit with spoons. I feel like those are games that are like each region has like different rules. — I'm making a video and you guys can go watch my video and see how to play the game when I post that. So, — you'll see it right here. Go check out his video if you want to see. — Go check out my video. But yeah, that's the thing. It's an insane project with so many elements. The bursting of ideas reflects the way that your mind works as an artist with an explosion of ideas all coming together to make something truly special and unique. You designed an entire game. Not only the gameplay aspect, but made unique cards. Yeah. What a crazy piece. And the lemurs look awesome, too. That's great. — Oh, yeah. Those lemurs. I don't know if you saw them. There they are. They kind of look like statues. Originally, they were just supposed to be monochrome, but I was like, "Hey, there's statues. There you go. " If I were to do this whole process again, one thing I would change differently. Give up. — Well, this was an absolutely incredible battle. And now it is the super hard part for you guys watching at home. You got to vote on who won the thrift shop art battle. Is it going to be Jen Llewellyn with her amazing box? Is it going to be Adriana Bika with her amazing lamp? Is it going to be Jake with his box slashgame slashcrocheting slash lino cut slash all the stuff that he packed in there? Or is it going to be uh my box here? Go vote. You decide the winner. All of these artists social media stuff is going to be down in the description, their Instagram, their YouTube if they have one. We already know Jake is going to be making a video on his channel. Well, you know, I told my husband if I ever got invited to a 1000 battle art battle, I would make a YouTube.
