Let's do a little look at the mayors of New York past. Let's start of course with Mayor John Lindsay, aka the hottest mayor. No, the hottest mayor. Look, this guy is 6'4. Okay, full head of hair, [ __ ] little hair curl there. You think that's an accident? No, he's getting his picture taken for [ __ ] mayor. He was like, "Oh, hang on one sec. " Hottest mayor in the game. Also, best switcheroo. Elected as a Republican in '66 and then again in '70, switched to a Democrat in '71. This morning at Gracie Mansion, Mrs. Lindsay and I enrolled in the Democratic Party. In a sense, this step recognizes the failure of 20 years in progressive Republican politics. Cool switcheroo. Uh and also he was like a wildly progressive mayor. This is a video taken in 1969. Uh see if you can pick out some things that are still being talked about today. Automobiles are strangling our cities and that comfortable, convenient, and cheap mass transit is vital if our cities are to survive. Subway and bus riders are discriminated against by New York state laws which favor the automobile. Additional taxes imposed on automobile use to benefit mass transit assist the automobile rider as well as the mass transit rider because it will tend to reduce congestion on the highways and on the roads. It's just congestion pricing. And it was a more progressive congestion pricing in 1969. Um unfortunately, uh yeah, the city ran out of money.
