WELCOME TO MY FALLOUT TV SHOW SEASON 2 REVIEW.

This is part of my “Fallout Is A Nightmare” series. In this video I review Season 2 of the Fallout TV Show, covering mostly how it does or doesn’t live up to aspects of Fallout: New Vegas. I mostly cover the NRC, the Brotherhood, Mr. House and the Deathclaws.

I spent 5 pretty solid months of work on this (while unfortunately experiencing quite a lot of grief and sadness).

It gave me something to focus on though and I have really enjoyed making it. I wanted to make something special during this hard time, so I reaaaally gave this my all.

It has made me want to continue making stuff this good BUT this level of quality kinda costs more as much as it earns which is why I shamelessly plug the patreon woooo.

Welcome puny humans. I am Super Mutant Jump Jump here to present to you review of hit new show Fallout TV show season 2. No good. Yes. Now I know what you're thinking. Why no co-host? WELL, JUMP TRY JUMP GATHER MANY HUMANS to help but all too squishy. NCR Legion all mangled by Jump's powerful hands. I didn't mean no harm, George. — Jump even tried making super mutant host using FEV virus. But — fortunately, Jump have vault dweller that survive capture. Oh my god, I'm going to die. No, no. It's simple. Human review show. Jump eat. Fair deal, Jump thinks. And if I refuse, Jump will eat half of human now and then other half will review show. Let's make a movie. Fallout as a series is about trying to survive after a disastrous event. Now, you may think I mean an atomic disaster, but let me tell you, I have nailed this. Okay, that's better. Fallout 1 and 2 were released in these years by Black Isle Studios to mass critical acclaim. But their parent company, Interplay, who owned Fallout as well as the publishing rights to Boulders's Gate, was somehow losing money. And so in 2003 they shut down Black Isle Studios due to lack of funds. The project they were working on at the time, Van Burren, which was either the next Fallout game or some kind of vehicle, was cancelled. Much like the world after a nuclear incident, Fallout was in trouble and needed saving. Yeah, I think this analogy is holding up. Fortunately, around this time, Todd Howard, the video game equivalent of [ __ ] Moses, purchased the series, took all of the Fallout games on a big boat made of money, and sailed onto the horizon of Let's Reskin Oblivion into a Fallout game. He took one look at Fallout 1 with its cool vaults and great concept of a blue jumpsuited dweller leaving to take on the wasteland. And Fallout 2 with its ugly characters and way too much text, and knew exactly what to do. Vault Dweller. Bam. Leaves vault. Bam. Breathtaking wasteland. Bam. More money than anyone could ever spend. Bam. See, Todd has always wanted to make a post-apocalyptic game. And as he put it himself, — I can remember it vividly. Just a sticky note on my desk when I came back said, "Got you. Fallout. It's yours. " — No need to thank me, Todd. I've always had your back. You see, Fallout 3 was wet with atmosphere, and the exploration felt new and exciting. Sure, the game had the draw distance of a depressed painter. I was going to put a happy little mountain back there, but what's the point? But this draw distance meant we never knew what was over the horizon until we got there. It actually added real suspense. Uh uh, what is in this water? Jump only use the best. Jump only use Raja. The writing of Fallout 3, however, didn't really meet the standards set by the series so far, and so not all fans were happy. Todd and Bethesda then did the unthinkable. They contracted Obsidian, a studio that contained staff that made the original games, to take the Fallout 3 engine and try and make a new game that's just that bit better. But as we all know, in less than 2 years, Obsidian instead offered up the very best game ever made. It's a bit like being asked to invent a new flavor of mystery meat. and instead inventing a whole new universe. I don't like that. We need to cut it. The characters Obsidian created are to this day some of the best in video game history. All the RPG elements were brought back where your skills, perks, and choices really mattered. And they even tightened up Fallout 3's combat. But I mean, did it really need it? — OH MY GOD. — This game came out after Halo 3. And so this was it. With these two genius moves, Bethesda had created the ultimate franchise. They were riding high and nothing could stop them. — People of the world, do not interfere. Our intentions are peaceful. We are Fallout 76. And the raven never fitting still is sitting on the pallet master palace just above my chamber door. One more poem, human, and jump. Eat your kidneys. Wait, what? I knew my [ __ ] side hurt. The story of Fallout 76 has been told as many times as there are versions of Skyrim, but here's the gist. After the release of Fallout 4, fans were a little shaken with it. The series started to resemble more a corridor-based shooter with a railroaded story and very little to discover from exploring. Both of Bethesda's main columns of power were showing signs of aging. Now more than ever, Bethesda

needed something to reinvigorate the series to pull a Fallout 5 New Vegas 2, uh, Skyrim 6. But instead of making a singleplayer RPG like everyone wanted, they released Fallout 76, which as we all know was one of the worst received AAA games of all time. And this was unusual because games with huge studios behind them rarely get scores this bad. And I think it's because no one wants to piss off the giant evil conglomerates. Do you think the subterranean mole people at Impulse Game really want to get into Bethesda's bad books? Take Starfield, the glorified $70 loading screen simulator. Has an 83 on Metacritic. This is insane. It's basically the same score as Fallout New Vegas. I guess no bonus for Bethesda. To make things worse, Todd promised everyone it would be the best thing since sliced babies. So, everyone saw how bad it was. Everyone knew he was lying and everyone was talking about it. So, once again, Fallout was in trouble. Its reputation was shot to pieces. And now it was Todd who needed someone to come in and save the day. People of the world, do not interfere. We are Amazon. Ah, jump. Understand? Amazon destroy planet. Amazon save Fallout. Good job, Amazon. A fair exchange if there ever was one. After season 1 of the Fallout TV show came out, a lot happened to this quaint little gaming series. Almost 5 million people played Fallout games in a single day. Fallout 4's concurrent player count doubled. Fallout 76 reached a new peak of players it had never hit before. And Bethesda made enough money to literally bathe in it, though somehow not enough to stop them from massively laying off their workforce. Wo wo. Now times are tough. I mean, have you seen these numbers? But how was the show? Well, from a video game adaptation, I don't think we could expect more than what we got from season 1. Sure, the production felt a bit iffy at times, and the story was tonally a little bit all over the place, but it had memorable characters that actually changed as the season went on. Amazing set and prop design, and most importantly, it felt really fresh. It wasn't like a lot of shows nowadays, which just seem like an unending slog of slow episodes where nothing happens so that they can artificially extend the plot on for dozens of seasons while still making as much money as physically possible. Uh, every episode, I think, whether you liked it or not, had fresh ideas set at a really good pace. So, in season 2, I wondered if it would be able to stay new and original. And after the first three episodes, it seemed to me that the show had become an unending slog of slow episodes where nothing happens so that they can artificially extend the plot on for dozens of scenes. Yes, with episode 2, this show's IMDbd score dropped to its lowest point yet, lower than a super mutant IQ. Wait, wait. You telling Jump this clean burn and fast ignition? I better say here that episodes 4 to 8 more than made up for this season's slow start. But let's begin with why I thought episodes 1 to three were pretty average episodes. Hold it one second, puny humans. I am bootleg mutant Not Jump. Not Jump thought it was best makeup was not wasted. regularly scheduled show. Fallout season 1 at its sloppy gray matter is a show about characters being changed by the world that they're in. I forgot to film the follow-up shot for this bit. And this from a video game adaptation is pretty impressive. I honestly think people who hate this show because oh did you notice this date is wrong and who make videos about oh this date is still a problem maybe need to have a good hard look at themselves in a [ __ ] mirror. As an aside, Rafi Silva, who plays houses double, actually watched hours of Fallout YouTubers just before filming season 2, so he could fully understand the perspective of people like Oxhorn when it comes to Fallout. No wonder these episodes ARE SO BAD. OXHORN'S VIDEOS, ESPECIALLY his playthroughs of the early Fallout games, are brilliant. This is fake beef. To sum, damn you, summarize. Series 1 ends with us learning that VaultTech are actually planning the end of the world. The Brotherhood has a source of limitless power in the form of cold fusion. Lucy learns that her dad blew up Shady Sands to stop the MCR, and Lucy and the Ghoul leave into the sunset to search for Hank, who has gone to New Vegas. In the first three episodes of season 2, Lucy and the ghoul are out in the wasteland looking for Lucy's dad. But what actually happens in these three episodes? They fight some raiders, learn about House's mind control chips, which is nothing new as we see them in the first scene in the show. Fight some rad scorpions. Lucy gets captured by the Legion and the ghoul frees her. This is everything. And while all this is a lot of stuff, I have issues with most of it, particularly with the Legion. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the Legion, but these scenes don't do them any justice at all. To show you what I mean, let's focus on the main plot point of Lucy being captured by the Legion and freed by the ghoul. Getting caught by the Legion is one of the very worst things that can happen to you. They are the personification of all the very worst things that have been made possible by the world ending. But in this show, they don't really feel all that different to anyone else. They look like they're in cosplay. Quietly listen to everything Lucy says. And their camp is so tiny, it's hard to see them as any kind of a threat. Really, the raiders we saw in episode 1 seem just as bad. This isn't really a big issue, though. These are just minor things. The big issue is that they are just really boring. For example, when McCully Kulkin was announced for this show, I was really excited. I assumed he would play some kind of wacky scientist like Mr. Fantastic. Who worked at the Helios power station in Fallout New Vegas. So tell me, what exactly do you do here? — [ __ ] man. Everything. I push buttons. I turn dials. I read numbers. Sometimes I make up little stories in my head about what the numbers mean. — But in this episode, McCulli plays it quite seriously, just saying random phrases like he doesn't really know what they mean. — Away, profleate. — Honestly, I think he was better utilized in that Angry Video Game Nerd episode. McCalli is also the only Legion member that says more than one or two lines. And then after this episode, we barely see the Legion again. The scenes with the ghoul trying to save Lucy have a similar issue. First, he goes to Camp Golf and meets Victor, but they only really exchange a few lines and then he leaves. He then goes to an NCR camp which only has like three people. They only exchange a few lines and then he leaves. There's just very little to these scenes and they're playing out a little bit more like a New Vegas themed ride. And it's a shame because a fast pace is a good thing, but these individual scenes don't really make me feel anything. They don't make me scared of the Legion, tense about Victor, or hope that the NCR guys will be okay. Victor, the Securitron, and Camp Golf, though, look really good. It's like they've been pulled right out of the game, I I really love it. So, when the ghoul sells out the NCR's location to the Legion and then blows the Legion up. It doesn't feel like any of these plot points have very much weight to them. It just feels like we're filling time until we get to Mr. House, which is exactly what is happening. The exact same thing also happens with Lucy's dad. He has scenes throughout these opening three episodes, but all we learn from him is he has mind control chips and they blow up heads. And we already knew that. These two things are repeated to us so many times throughout this season that have actually made a small musical number. Houses mind control chips blow up heads you say. Blow up heads. No more singing, human. Over 5 minutes of episode 2 is spent following Lucy's dad around. And all he does is blow up five rats one after another with his chips. And then he blows up a person.

### [15:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1DnivbPt2g&t=900s) Segment 4 (15:00 - 20:00)

Nothing new is established in these scenes. And mind control chips. That's not very It's just not an interesting plot point. What more could they do? It doesn't even look like blood when this stuff explodes. It looks more like baked beans or something. What is going on? These plot threads are all plagued by the same issue that runs through the first half of this season, which is really short scenes with not enough happening. I've seen a lot of talk about this show having too many plot threads, but I don't think it does. I think they're just paced out really badly. Take Norm's storyline in these episodes. My ankles. Norm begins this season stuck in Vault 31. And by the end of episode 1, he's defrosted all of Vault 31's management staff. In episode 2, his plot involves waking everyone up, telling them they all need to escape, and they do. That's everything that happens to Norm in this episode, and that's fine. I think this plot line is pretty good. But rather than these three pretty simple things occurring in one scene, or maybe two slightly shorter scenes, it takes place as three really short scenes throughout one episode. The second one, where Norm tells everyone they need to escape, is less than 2 minutes long in an hour-ong episode. All these tiny scenes make it feel like we're never really getting stuck into things. And the constant ad breaks on this service that we're all paying for make it even worse. You see, we have three ad breaks per episode, and they just seem to be promoting random products. Oh my god, it's Mr. House. Why is he promoting Sky? Is Robco not uh working out for you? Please kill me. Let's be honest here. This show is one giant ad for Fallout, and I'm paying $8. 99 a month for the privilege to watch it. But in order to watch this giant paid ad, I also have to sit through more ads, unless I pay an extra $2. 99 a month to remove those ads. That's it. I can't take it anymore. No more reviewing. And you can't make me. Oh, really? Human. — Wait, wait. What is that? What did you do to me? — Oh, no. — Human do as jumps say or stop. I'll do as you say. Not worry viewers, human returns soon. Just editing trick. It's funny that most of these ads are for things you can get on Amazon. So, while you're watching the show, you can pause and then buy random things like dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, sanitary products, electric toothbrushes, a single-use mop that can scrub as well as dry floors. I just think who would be dumb enough to stop watching a TV show to buy all of these products? Wait, wait. Are you telling Jump this mop scrubs and dries? Oh my god. So, pretty much the rest of this show I really enjoyed. All of Maximus' scenes, including the first few episodes, I thought were really good. His scenes are all longer and a lot more stuff happens in each of them. And we get some of the best production in the whole show. I like what they do with his character, too. You see, in season 1, Maximus had a complete arc. Uh, pause to enjoy. But after losing Lucy at the end of season 1, he also lost himself. And a lot of this season is him trying to work out who he is without her. It's believable and it feels like they haven't deleted or disregarded the ark he already had. He starts off mostly angry, just punching guys, but then he meets Xander Harkness and just look at that jacket and chin combo. Xander sells him the idea that you can still be a hero while in the Brotherhood. They go out flying, fight a Securitron, try and kill some children, meet Thaddius. All good fun. Wait, wait, wait. What was that point before about? Now, I know you're probably expecting me to discuss this, but this show commits a far worse crime than child killing. Typical Amazon. See, in season 1, some of the action scenes, especially those with power armor, looked a little iffy, and it's hard to show you without breaching copyright, but I always felt they were really static and had a lot of janky movement. For example, here is a frame by frame of Titus being moved by the Yaoay in season 1. What's this? What's happening here? What is this? Can you see it? You can see it, right? I went into season 2 hoping that the fights would have been one of the big things they improved on in this season. But this [ __ ] Securatron fight. Where's my cat gone? Now, I could break it all down like how nothing feels like it has any weight. Xander only seems to sort of rub up against the Securron. Things keep switching from models to CG like a bad scene in the prequels. But I think you can sum up all of its problems by this part of the fight. At one point, Xander jumps into the air in order to attack the Securatron with a super sledge. I lost my sledgehammer, but as he comes down, he only hits the Securron's hand. Now, not only is it really unsatisfying seeing him only hit a hand, as it sort of adds to the feeling this fight has no weight at all, if you watch Xander's

### [20:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1DnivbPt2g&t=1200s) Segment 5 (20:00 - 25:00)

attack dropping down frame by frame, there is absolutely no way he is going to hit this Securron. This swing is without a doubt going to land in front of and to the left of it. Now, since you can only see this frame by frame, it might be a little bit unclear. So, let me recreate this for you. Okay, guys. Let's do this. — Oh, no. Yeah. I did it. After this fight, Xander threatens some mutant kids and Maximus kills him, returns to the Pidwin, steals back cold fusion, starts a civil war within the Brotherhood, and then escapes with Thaddius. So, you're not just wandering around. Now, this fight made me really worried about the quality of the action scenes that were going to be in this season. You see, season 1 was the first season of this show. Quick, WRITE THAT DOWN. As the great Alex Horn once said, — I think everything should get a second series. I think you need time to let something bed in. — And I think he's right. A show's first season should be a chance for you to try all of your ideas, see what works, what doesn't work, and then go into season 2 with a clear idea of what you want. But after seeing the fights in the first half of this season, I was worried that production hadn't improved on the action scenes at all until. Also, I hung out with Alex Horn once. At the end of season 1, we see Hank walking towards Fallout New Vegas, and a Deathclaw skull comes into focus, and this hints that season 2 is going to have death claws. Now, I've seen death claws in every which way with their cute horns and demon faces. We've all stood at the top of that thing in Quarry Junction, pinging away at them for hours, and it's taken THE FEAR AWAY. I JUST THOUGHT given how powerful the monsters in this show have been already, I couldn't see how they were going to make the death claws scary or threatening. — Well, butter my butt and call you this game. — See, at the start of episode 5, we follow Cooper fighting in Alaska, and eventually he ends up alone and in trouble with the Chinese until he sees a shadow in the fires ahead and is forced to watch as a deathclaw tears apart three people like tissue paper. I can only imagine how a recording of such an attack would sound. — Oh my god. — Okay, turn it off. You must never listen to these tips. This scene is really smart because as we know, Cooper invented the ghoul to help him deal with the horrors of the wasteland. And as a result, nothing can really scare him. I mean, just look how he reacts to this attack from a giant gulper. Going into this season, I was thinking that the ghoul being scared of a deathclaw would feel a bit forced. But because this fear started before the war, before he had his shield up, it makes it a lot more believable. We see him react in a way we've never seen before, and that makes it scarier for us, too. It feels different. Every action scene with the death claws looks so good, as well. The last two episodes in particular are largely taken up by Maximus fighting death claws in the pandering power armor patent pending. And as I say, it's really good. All the hits finally have weight. The action scenes combined humor with storytelling. And most importantly, all of the fights don't take place in one [ __ ] spot. Elevated. Also, I know how this sounds, but don't the Death Claws just look perfect? They're like a combination of all of the designs from the previous games while still being their own separate thing. I really wish they'd put this much effort into the super mutants. What the [ __ ] is that? I mean um jump just like this creature. It really was all or nothing here. Get the death claws wrong and the season will be a failure. Get it right though. And I don't know either. I just didn't write a follow-up to that sentence. — More great times. Bootleg super mutant not jump here. Just here to say that making this video has genuinely been best experience of not jump life. I'm being really serious here, BUT I CANNOT BREAK CHARACTER. no one really bought. Seriously, it's a real book. I wrote a real book and I'll send it you. There you go. Thank you, puny humans. You seem okay to not jump. Maybe not jump, not eat you. Let's go back to video. To Fallout fans, Mr. House is as precious as the Death Claws. To me, he is not only one of the best video game characters of all time, played by one of my favorite actors of all time, he is, I think, one of the best characters ever written. Adapting Mr. House then, is an impossible task. There is absolutely no way to do him justice. — But from whom, Mr. Howard, who ends the world? I don't think you're a cowboy at all. No, I think you're a killer. I think I know exactly who you are. — I take it all back. Every single scene he's in, except for this weird toilet scene. Mr. House completely steals the show. And yeah, the actor they picked for him is perfect. But what really does it for me is his writing. In Fallout New Vegas, House claims to know everything, though. That is just what he tells us. He has a huge ego and is often wrong. But his writing is so good, even the player will believe everything he says. great character. Uh, and that's because a small part of his vast character vest is that he uses calculations to determine the probability of future events. And I checked, it really is a small part. In his over 10,000 words in Fallout New Vegas, he only mentions these calculations seven times. I compiled his entire script. You are going to hear me talk about it. In the TV show, these calculations have been made a major part of his personality. And while having a character that uses mathematical calculations or their intelligence to determine the future is nothing new like Sherlock Holmes, the architect, Pam, Julian Basher, the Oracle, Mr. Fantastic, the Mad Thinker, Edward Mora, Armadeas Cho, Hydra, the Multivac, Tracy Jared, Clifford Dvau, Milo Stanfield, and Bender. — All existence is just a chess game, and I can see 50 moves ahead. — It's done with such style here that it's still really interesting. See, a lot of House's predictions are about calculating when the world will end, but he finds that Cooper's actions are somehow bringing that date closer. As such, we see the effect that House's predictions have on Cooper, and this just gives them so much more weight than what we usually see. There's also a scene towards the end of the show where the ghoul brings Cold Fusion to House and it turns him back on. The ghoul asks Mr. House. What would happen if he destroyed cold fusion? And House says, "Give me one second. It would be fresh snow from a scientific standpoint, but if it were to expel all of its energy simultaneously, the damage would likely extend to other planets. So, I would exercise extreme caution. " There is something so Mr. House about this writing, and I really think it would fit perfectly into Fallout New Vegas. It's really similar to one of my favorite speeches by him when he talks about sending colony ships out into space to search for new planets. I think it just gels really well with the TV show dialogue, but I've played this clip so many times on my channel, I'm not going to do it again. Overall, then as the series runs along, the scenes get longer, better, and more interesting things happen happen. However, while lots of great stuff happens, there is the feeling that the show is building to a big climax in its final episode. Think of it all. What are Hank's plans with the mind control chips? What are Mr. House's plans? What will the Ghoul's family think of it? What is Vault 32's experiment? What's happening with the Super Muans? What will happen with the Brotherhood? What are the Enclave planning? And how the [ __ ] did they rotate Dinky the Dinosaur 180 [ __ ] degrees? And the answer to all these questions is you. It's the final episode. Now, don't get me wrong, the final episode is really good. For one, it redeems Maui's character. In this episode, we learn that after the ghoul blows up part of the Legion's camp, their civil war ends with Leate Lerta seizing power as Caesar. Seizing Caesars's Caesars sees it a way seized to salad and making his character this blood crazed head of the Legion really plays up to the fun side that we expect from this wonderful man. This what makes the Legion a lot more interesting if still obviously a little underdeveloped. Remember they only have the one character that actually speaks. I mean this guy spoke but then he just died immediately. I've also always been a little unsure about Steph's character and her motivations. But in these final episodes, they give her a backstory as a Canadian immigrant, and I think everyone agrees. Don't think of them as human beings. Americans. It was just really well done. It makes her so much more interesting than just being an evil vault tech manager. Uh, also, I barely mentioned him, but I also liked Norm's story as well. I don't think enough really happened to him throughout this season, but I will say all the vault dwellers getting killed by the Rad

### [30:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1DnivbPt2g&t=1800s) Segment 7 (30:00 - 35:00)

Roaches was just really a well prodduced scene. I love how the show elevates the red roaches from just being like a mild nuisance. — Crimey, more roaches. — Vault dwellers all getting murdered also fondly reminds me of the massacre of the Vault 22 residence by Randall Clark. Although all of this does make me think about the great life I used to have in my vault. nothing. Jump had to have him, even if it was burglary. But it's not all gravy. Oh, that's sick. This season, I think, made the classic mistake of hyping its finale up way too much without actually giving us the goods. For one, we don't get a single answer to any of the questions I posed just a minute ago. Take Hank and his mind CONTROLLED [ __ ] OH NO. AS we all know, this plot point has come up like 30 [ __ ] times. So, naturally, we're expecting a decent resolution. And to be fair, it does all come to her head. Yeah. See, in the second to last episode, Lucy catches her dad. Finds the chip mainframe running his chips and goes inside to find a pre-war politician's head connected to the main frame. And this seems like it would be the start of something. But she has nothing to do with anything. That was our boiler. As it turns out, this lady was just making all of Hank's mind control people really nice. And now that Lucy's killed her, they all become mean. That's it. That is it. We never find out Hank's plan.
