## Описание

Hailing from London and now based in Los Angeles, Harmony Samuels is more than a songwriter and producer, he is a bridge. A self-taught musician since the age of four, Harmony stays true to his name and uses music as a power tool to unify the world with vibrations. Pulsing through songs like Janet Jackson’s Made for Now featuring Daddy Yankee, and Say Yes with Michelle Williams featuring Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, is a clear message of hope, power, and love that he effortlessly presents by weaving multiple styles rooted in cultures across the world.

He is also joined by Nigerian Singer / Songwriter, Reekado Banks, who is a collaborator on Harmony's latest hit record, "Tic Tik", available now on all streaming platforms.

### Segment 1 (00:00 - 05:00) []

hey everybody Welcome to what for me is a very special episode of pensado's place uh let me say right up front I'm bias about this guest there's just no question about it um quick thumbnail in my career um I've had a chance to work with extraordinary producers LA and baby face Jimmy and Terry Dr Dre and the list goes on current guys that are just amazing um I don't know that I have met anybody as gifted as our current guest the one the only Harmony Samuels howy you doing what's up brother I'm good um Harmony has a fascinating background um from developing Ariana Grande 10 years ago to uh a little bit longer now to the width and breadth of artists that he has touched Janet Jackson Daddy Yankee major uh folks you know folks you didn't know that you knew um and this Nigerian London bred uh amazing guy also shares another thing um what you don't know is a lot of producers are not successful because they're great creatively but they're not great business-wise um there's a small group of people Max Martin La Reed Jimmy Ivy and there's a few more Harmony also does that too but we'll get into that yeah so Harmony H money you're a number of things yeah try to be yeah yeah um you have conceived of a project called Throw and beats yeah thr and be yeah um it has the incredible Ricardo branks on it who is also joining us Ricardo what's up man I'm very well good good so the single's called tick tick tick yeah tell me what was the concept man it basically the concept is about uh a person who's intimate with another person and they haven't been intimate for a while so they have to a the frustration um yes that's what tick ticks about it's like the frustration of waiting for that special someone to uh Grace you that was crazy but she also has a good way of ticking you in multiple ways you know what I'm saying now I have heard this song 400,000 times and never knew that it was about that and part of what's so amazing about it is you get caught in just the groove and the pocket and what Ricardo's doing and you don't even know what the meaning is now it's got this heavy [ __ ] I'm going use that [ __ ] yeah I mean yeah it's funny because it's like there so many different parts to it I've been waiting all day ah you I mean cuz you're trying to you're wait y'all was supposed to linked up from you know what I mean right and then the other part is he I mean the way we flipped his way cuz we talk about her thickness but we also talk about the time right I got you what I mean so the tick and thick is all kind of part in the in the play so it's just Nursery rhyming man listen you know what I mean just fun just good old Ricardo when you first of all you have an amazing career that you had going anyways you're just a brilliant rapper you got picked out of 5,000 entree you know and then they picked you and you did your thing and you also running your business in a way where you have your own music thing and making sure your futures is I love that entrepreneur give me your sense of what attracts you to Harmony as a producer what what's his yo it's a big privilege to have ever you know been in the same workpace as him as har many Sam I've listened to Harmon Sam growing up trying to build a career for myself and I remember hearing a song he had produced and talking to my friend about it back in uni and I was like yo this is a smash he had made this song was Savage at the time I like this is a smash like I've never heard anything like this before so yeah fast forward 10 years 12 years down the line I'm working in the studio with him he's executive producing my album he's having me on his album yo it's a different you know it's like it's a different thing it's a different feeling to be in my shoes

### Segment 2 (05:00 - 10:00) [5:00]

walking this journey and being here right now so uh and he's an amazingly talented man he's very uh intentional about the music very uh you know the thoughts are clear when he's there trying to get up to what he's I respect it so yes it's somebody that I have learned a lot from no I as full transparency I'm kind of an uncle conary in the harmony world he um he's the COO of his world and I you know I tell my team one of my favorite things to do is to go to a meeting with Harmony because I'm just sit in the corner cuz he's going to run it he's going to handle it and whether it's splits royalties Family conceptualizing Music developing acts whatever the case may be he um again that group of people like Jimmy ivine and La Reed Harmony's got that and um the other thing I think that is fascinating about you man is that people want to do with you yeah like artists want to be down you know right Ricardo I hope so abely yeah I hope so you know yeah and and the other thing about really talented people is they're tough like it ain't all you know it ain't all apples and roses and stuff sometimes you got to you so that leadership thing is amazing because I think this is just as a friend that the more you're stimulated business wise the more it informs your creativity yeah is that true very true um I think it's funny because uh as we put out tick you know I'm learning so much more about the streaming side of things and you know this is the first time where normally I'd produce the song and you know I'm help him do marketing and push the record across the line for the artist yeah uh but to sit back and watch me build my profile and you know kudos to Ricardo for giving me a a boost Ricardo really stepped in and gave me a boost but just watching the M the metrics and making certain moves and seeing it react to the things that we do really gives me a better understanding of when I'm creating more in the studio I was like oh the audience loves this they don't like this they are attracted to you know so you kind of start figuring out what your audience is attracted to right and um you also can you know play games with it you know what I mean and let's try this let's try that um I think today's market the resources that have given to us are way more beneficial than it was back in the day even though we had way more benefits right from selling records but it was very minimal on how you went through the process that's right now you can make adjustments on the Fly you know and you can you know oh let's get this person you know or you know what this happened on the net so let's create another version and in an instant you can take AG of situations you don't need months and months of lead time you can do it in quick increments and capitalize on on Shor of margins in fact with tick tock tick being out the growth in the first week was like 194% their DJs are doing versions of it and that's something that becomes organic like people are like oh I got to be part of this this [ __ ] is fire um now your concept is really it's more of a Trilogy this is record one right what other ideas are coming forb is volume one then forign G is volume two MH you know what I mean and then there's uh wboe which is basically I'm turning my label into a radio station and we basically are in this album project we're going to be highlighting all the artists that we work with across the globe but as a radio show so man and you got music made already can I come listen to it um the guests on this particular record who who's all on This Album so we just confir so obviously the king Ricardo you know open the floodgates for us and he has another record that we're doing together for the project too because I feel like Ricardo's really helped me uh create the foundation for it and then you know he in his own right has introduced me to

### Segment 3 (10:00 - 15:00) [10:00]

the Nigerian African Market because even though my music yeah listen he he really did just be like this is my big bro um and uh in um he opened me up to the Nigerian Market even though my music was over there no one knew who the face of it so standing next to such a u empowered individual who he took me to his hood his neighborhood you know um and we were able to you know have good conversation and he opened up opened me up to the market and so now we're building that bridge between Africa and this side of the world and the UK and um yeah super excited but we got Neo Ro timy um I can't say one because I want to say it but I can't say it I know how she guess but you know the opportunities are strong with because all of the guys I've worked with Eric bingers obviously you know involved seven streer and you know W day Cole and some of the biggest you know sh Shay some of these artists are huge in their own rights um there're and we had so the opportunities are endless um from Maverick City even on the FR gospel to Michelle Williams to you know it's so many different people that we have the relationship with that is going to Grace this project so we're super excited and you know like I said Ricardo's a very strong Foundation to it and you know as you know we're working on his album right now and his album is releasing it now yeah getting ready to when you releasing it bro when we when you thinking of doing it October yeah oh it's coming nice nice um the one of the other elements that you share Harmony now for the audience look for age money that's the artist name and um when you hear the infectiousness of this record now that you know it's about you are going to go get the rest of the record trust me when I tell you just so you've been warned um you have also had a very strong artist development bone when you see something that you think makes sense and hits your does it have to move you yeah I mean like I said uh I think we're selling emotion like my job is as a producer is to sell like I look at myself as I'm a I'm a Salesman right if I'm selling chocolates I have to make the chocolates a piece to the audience if I'm making soda if I'm making water whatever I'm making has to appeal to my audience so as a music producer I have to make music that appeals to the audience that I'm speaking to so if the ingredients that I'm putting together don't match then my audience is probably going to reject it so there has to be an element of connection between us both right so yes I have to be emotionally connected to whatever it is I'm working on for me to get the best out of it but I also understand that um it's a business so emotions can only go so far get the job done and you got to cut it off because if you want to make better decisions on you know sometimes I feel like we as creatives one of our downfalls is that we get too emotionally connected and we don't know when to let it go so it keeps us stuck you know what I mean um and I had to learn that many times there's many songs I've written and produced for people in mind or I did it with this person and now it has to go somewhere else and that person may not have cut it or done it the way I expected or wanted or felt it should be right and so you kind of be like nah but then you lose the opportunity um and that's happened to my me to me in my career so many times that I've had to learn like once it's done you have to die to the emotions once it's complete and you've got the blueprint of what you're creating die to emotions and then let's let the universe do what it's got to do the thing that is fascinating in watching your process is that um it's the ability to edit to self-edit and to balance Commerce and your art and your emotion and that is so hard to do and it's very rare to do um because you have to stay open to I mean the story about major and how that turned into a wedding song and give the short version of he just actually did an interview I

### Segment 4 (15:00 - 20:00) [15:00]

just saw him do an interview about it the other day and it's funny cuz we tell it so differently but so the same because we're both characters in our own right uh but he's a genius and you know the art of producing and being a mentor and leader is to find Talent right uh and to adopt their talent to be better like is to train and get them to their goal so it's a it's bit of a selfless job but it's also a little selfish because you have to somewhat say no it's this is the way and it can come across like you know you're bullying me but it's not really a bully thing it's just that you want people to understand like a father to a child if you go that way you're going to hurt yourself because I've got enough experience to let you know that it's the same thing in producing so he was falling around on Instagram singing chicken salad sandwich the same Melody as this is why I love you because they asked him you know what do you want to eat and he starts singing cuz he's a genius like he starts singing this melody chicken salad sandwich and he post it on Instagram and I'm looking at his Instagram and I'm noticing the numbers are higher than normal I'm like wow okay so I listened to it and I'm like that's genius I'm like where'd he get that so like I thought I knew the song already like why I know this song so I call him and I'm like hey bro uh is this your song or is this a song you you're mimicking he said no I just made it up on the spot I said take that now right now and he's looking at me crazy like what take it down right now this is the record this is a record we're looking for and he came to the studio that same day kind of pissed because obious I told him to take down his viral moment and I'm like bro write a love song man like just we need to write a love song this is the song that takes you from here to the next level and lo and behold it did s months later it was it changed his whole life 2 million so records yeah chicken salad sandwich to why I love you Sams um Melody is King man Melody's King I've stuck to that idea of Melody being King just from your stories and like your successes with the music that you've made yeah these days The Melodies um they come before first right like everything else figure figures fure out that's right idea the emotions but like The Melodies oh I'm very meticulous about yeah well the as I've gotten to know obviously Harmony better but even Ricard when you've been around the studio the basics the stuff that mtown was made of the you know Melody and a hook and other kinds of things that's appealing you all that's you all's Foundation like it's not let me I got all these tools and I can do all this and you know I'm going Short change myself it's like what Hooks you what touches you emotionally and then the clever stuff comes behind like it's it's and as you know I mean this respectfully cuz I am a straight up Talent hoe just let's call it what it is Talent blows me away and I got to be near it and you know Harmony knows after a couple years I just want to sit over in the corner I ain't got to say [ __ ] contribute nothing just cuz I'm watching Brilliance and Brilliance stands out um and when I see Harmony excited about something like he was with Ricardo I was like Ricardo thinks I'm a stalker I'm like following him around the studio and [ __ ] and just saying hey man my name's her and I know you're a bad boy um but that's the beauty of following your heart yeah you know following your heart musically um and then you see it responded to by people who you've touched their heart um and does that give you optimism moving forward about music and communicating and all that stuff you feel positive about I feel very positive about it yeah it's you know I just feel like we have such a beautiful uh there's ways that we can affect the world you know and I feel like when God gives you this type of gift it's your job to really give the world something you know what I mean and there's a lot of like self-editing and self searching and studying like I study a lot of music from different cultures um you if you jump in my car you might hear me listening to a Bollywood

### Segment 5 (20:00 - 25:00) [20:00]

soundtrack M and it's just like why you listening to a Bollywood soundtrack or you know some days I just want to hear you know classical music and some days just want to hear Jazz for days and you know a lot of people was like why do I do that I said I'm training my ear and adapting my mind so that when time comes I canuse these things together and uh and so you know as I've done multiple time we call it genre bending um where we just put worlds together and create these atmospheres that don't normally exist because that's how you make you know that's how you fight racism politics that's how you fight you know colorism that's you these are the like you know what in the 40s and 50s you couldn't you know white people was on the left right black people on the right and music broke that barrier you know what I mean it wasn't a politician it wasn't someone standing on a Podium or it wasn't a president it was literally the power of music and then so I think we have a responsibility and to go back to that responsibility of using music to fix the things that are in front of us instead of using music to kind of pretend and hide and um like you know it's now a drug so we use music as a drug thing instead of using it as a healing thing um and so I think if we can use music go back to music healing people and fixing problems look L the biggest language barrier is broken by music that's right that's right I don't have to speak English and you eura for us to both love the same thing that's right that's right and that's what music does and Michael Jackson was probably one of the most phenomenal people on making the world come together yeah absolutely and he has a song called coming together yeah that's right do you understand what I mean so I think for me that you know we that's what thr and be is about that's what this these relationships are about that's what these conversations about it's h it's getting the world to pay attention first by Melody and then driving the message you know what I mean but we got to get their attention first so you just had a master class in case you didn't understand and one of the things that I think is really uh opportunistic about what you just heard go back and replay it and realize that in great times of stress artists often lead um music often is a thing that people will go oh let me turn to that cuz I'm not in a good place it just so happens we're taping this the morning after the Democratic National Convention and the whole element doesn't matter about your politics but the whole theory was how do we come together how do we communicate we don't have to agree but be disagreeable and so much of what happened during that had music involved and um if you're a music maker and if you're watching the show you probably are you have great opportunity to evolve to change to do whatever and if you don't understand how come back and replay this episode and also listen to what Ricardo's saying as well too this is a guy who's taking his own craft taking his circumstance looked at how to make it better he keeps expanding and evolving and pushing the envelope that's what you want to do you don't want to rest this is a gift it's a gift I mean if you look at uh Rema and Selena Gomez with the Cal down record those are two worlds that aren't supposed to be in the same space and not only does it elevate the poverty in Africa for them to have an opportunity to fix their our countries and for them to have dreams and aspire to be better because they seen a witness of it yeah but it also brings attention to more privileged places to pay attention to the talent elsewhere and also find ways for us to work together to industrialize and build our Nations one last piece before we go that I think is fascinating about these gentlemen um they're building an infrastructure where sometimes it doesn't exist and they're finding talent that is finding a way to be heard through them and saying wait we're breaking the old rules like we don't have to go do this we can do that and so you got Evolution you got

### Segment 6 (25:00 - 26:00) [25:00]

entrepreneurship you got touching your soul you got things that are for tomorrow um clearly the music they make is visual as well too so there's a whole other world that's available to them it's just exciting I mean that's the only thing I that I can say and we um I am personally this is just personal to be inspired by what you do thank you man apprciate I love you boy I love you too man straight up Ricardo man you got one fan over here who's got some juice I'm willing to use that all up for you brother I appreciate you very much there so much coming from my end and I'm just excited to see what like future holds but like I am coming loaded um I in closing I have one request um please take over the world we shall absolutely literally because the world needs you yes sir we need to be healed challenged we need to evolve we need to show others that they can and and here we are um man could not be more thrilled thank you for making the time audience if you don't get anything out of this maybe change career um but if not and you want to follow and be inspired replay it but more importantly go find his music go listen to his music go get his music get ready for the live stuff coming there's stuff coming um we've had a great P's place and we'll see you next week
