### Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00) []

This is Chris with Motor Carrier HQ. Let's talk about FMCSA audits. First, they're not as random as you might think. If a carrier is being audited, it's usually for a reason. And second, they're not as scary as most people would think. When the FMCSA is auditing a carrier, they're typically not looking for perfection. They're looking for patterns, and they're looking for compliance. The most common things they're looking into are your driver qualification files, your hours of service logs, your drug and alcohol program, and your vehicle maintenance program. So, some of the things they're actually going to be asking for are things like copies of CDLs, medical certificates, hours of service logs, and something that proves you're in a compliant drug and alcohol consortium, and vehicle maintenance records that show you're actually making fixes and not just trying to drive through problems. So, where do most carriers get tripped up? It's actually just with missing paperwork. Your truck could be completely clean, you can be doing all the things that you're supposed to, but if you don't have the documentation to prove it, the FMCSA is going to act like it never happened, and they're going to mark you as non-compliant. So, the key takeaway here is that audits are paperwork-driven. If you're keeping records, and you're keeping them organized, you're already ahead of the game. In my next video, I'm going to talk about some of the tips you can do to make sure you're prepared for an FMCSA audit.
