## Описание

We just planted the first crop ever on Zach's newly purchased 38-acre field, and it wasn't without its challenges. In this video, we dig behind the planter to check soil moisture, talk through our starter fertilizer program, and discover this ground has some heavier soil than expected, including high magnesium levels and some mucky conditions down deep.

This year I bought my first piece of farm ground right behind us here. It's about 38 acres. First seeds are going in the ground in this new field right now. Super exciting. It's not too big of a field, but it's pretty cool to see. — As far as field conditions here, it's pretty dry right now. — I'm just going to dig behind the planter here, see what we're kind of dealing with for moisture and stuff like that. But don't have much fertility in this field, so that's also going to be a concern, but we did put on some fertility, but it's not going to break down cuz there's a lot of dry. We do have some liquid that's going on the planter just like the rest of our starter. Uh and then the other thing is drainage. So, this fall our plan is to put in some drain tile here, which will be pretty cool. Um but right now it's obviously really dry, so it's not a big concern with the drainage, but it will be good to go forward to have it, especially since this is river bottom ground. Okay, down deep here, it's definitely a little bit mucky. So, maybe drain tile would have been a good play. I didn't realize how mucky it was down here. Pretty — pretty hard soil. I know this soil we have soil test on it. Pretty high in magnesium, too. And that's where we get these uh clumps down there in the bottom. Uh yeah. So, anyway, this soil is pretty heavy stuff. All right, Todd, we're planting this field for the very first time to corn. What are your thoughts so far? It is a little mucky. There's some challenges. Right now the soil is at least pretty dry up top. What do you think? I think with the dry conditions we're going to turn out pretty decent. Um like you said, it's a little mucky underneath, but seed to soil contact right now we've got off the load kit. We're on a 2 and a quarter. And everything's right where it needs to be and there's no sidewall compaction, so we're going to run with it. See what happens. Hopefully we get some rain. And it's really dry, too. — A few notes to add. We're running Trecepta corn here because it was soybeans last year, so we're not running with the SmartStax trait. So we're running Trecepta. We're also running our typical starter program with this field, just like normal, except for I'm going to be adding in another product to do a block trial here in furrow, which we're adding in the Full Tech Plus ST to see how that performs. That's just some macros and some micronutrients. Here's a new one as we're walking in the field and we finally tilled it up. We have some rocks here, which is not really an issue that we have on a lot of our fields, but this one we do, so we better get this out of here. All right, here we go. The last pass right here. So now we've officially completed planting of this field and this year might have some challenges, might go well, might not. Who knows? I guess we'll just see how the year goes, but we're going to be putting on some other fertility products throughout the year, too, to help boost it and try to do the best job we can to give the most yield as possible, but we'll just kind of see how it goes cuz it's our first year with this ground. Thanks for following along. Stay tuned for the next video. —
