Born and raised in Western Samoa, Nepukanesa Iele came to the United States for a better future. Iele, better known as "T" on the job site, was looking for more opportunities—both economic and professional.

We only have 230,000 people on the whole island of Samoa," said Iele. "The best opportunity we had was to join the military."

About eight years ago, Iele was dropping off his brother-in-law at an IEA job site in Texas. He decided to stop in the office and fill out an application; little did he know he’d be hired on-the-spot.

That’s how this Samoan crew began.

As the business grew, IEA needed more workers. Luckily, Iele had connections in Samoa—people who were excited about the work. Little by little, Iele recruited people from the island. Now, he leads a full Samoan crew. They travel to each site together to maintain their work-family at every job.

“We’re coming over here for a better future,” he said. “To be able to help people from home economically, it’s the best feeling in

my name is uh nebuchadnezzar yelling but you could call me t i was born in american samoan out of the village of hong kong i grew up and raised in western samoa which is independent some more i came here to united states just to seek for a better future and better life so that's why i'm here well it all started when uh i was on the way to drop off uh my brother-in-law which is part two at the one on the job site so i decided to walk in the office to get an application filled up and didn't know that i was going to start which the person wants what worked for this industry was part two and then i come behind him and that's where all these proofs started from there's there is opportunity back home but it's not a whole lot it's a small island it's 230 000 people out the whole island so the best opportunity we have back home is to join the military but out here you know the minimum wages out here is 7 25 when i first got to the state and back home was only three dollars we needed people and they asked around i got a few people that i know so i started from there and asked them if they got the opportunity they gave them the opportunity to come here and they come in and do the work that we asked for them and that's where it all started and then every project we had to bring in some more people and it got up about 20 of us in the industry now and i believe that iea is the only company in the industry that had our kind the samoans i'm not sure any other company besides ia that gave us the opportunity to come and work and show what we got and it is the best feeling in the world you know to to be able to help somebody to uh start a family and stuff like that you know give them an opportunity to prove themselves instead of just charging people by the way they look you know you got to give them the opportunity to see what they got well i started with this company you know they gave me the opportunity i'm still here i never left and they is being good to us and they gave us every opportunity they can give us to take care of our families it's not only here at work that we get together that when we go home you know after work we go home and we get together hang around together and talk to them you know about work and stuff like that what we got to do to get better and all that growing up in the little island back home i never thought that i would end up here you know i stick with it and it's been a blessing to all families what this company gave us you
