New Google Opal destroys N8N. Google just dropped something crazy. It's called Opal and it's totally free. I built 10 apps in 20 minutes. N8 costs money and takes hours to learn. But Opel, it makes apps that talk, sing, and even generate videos. This might change everything. Hey, if we haven't met already, I'm the digital avatar of Julian Goldie, CEO of SEO agency, Goldie Agency. Whilst he's helping clients get more leads and customers, I'm here to help you get the latest AI updates. And before we dive in, Julian Goldie reads every comment. So, make sure you comment below and let me know what you think about this new tool. So, Google just released something that might totally destroy N. And here's the crazy part. It's completely free. I'm talking about Google Opal. And I spent the last week testing it against the N to see which one actually wins. And the results, well, let me just say this. I built more working apps in 1 hour with Opal than I could build in a full day with N. But that's not even the crazy part. The crazy part is what these apps can actually do. We're talking apps that generate videos with sound. Apps that create custom characters with backstories, apps that make interactive games, all with zero code, all in under a minute. Now, I know what you're thinking, Julian, this sounds too good to be true. That's exactly what I thought. So, I put it to the test. I ran 10 different challenges on both platforms and what I found will shock you. But first, let me explain what Opel actually is because this isn't just another automation tool. This is something completely different. Google Opal launched August 1st, 2025, just a few weeks ago. It's an experimental tool from Google Labs. And here's what makes it special. You describe what you want in plain English. Opel builds it. No code, no complex workflows, no hours of setup. Compare that to N8N. Don't get me wrong, N8 is powerful. It's been around since 2019. It has over 400 integrations, over 230,000 users. But here's the problem. It's built for developers. It takes hours to learn, and it costs at least $20 per month. Opel, totally free, at least for now. And you can build working apps in literally 60 seconds. Let me show you what I mean. I gave both tools the same challenge. Build a choose your own adventure game, a medieval fantasy with two choices at each scene. With N, I would need to set up nodes, configure triggers, write conditional logic, map out the entire flow. We're talking at least two hours for a basic version. With Opel, I just said this, build a short, choose your own adventure in a medieval fantasy with two choices at each scene. 45 seconds later, boom, working game. You pick the genre, you pick the character, you pick how long the story is, then you play. Each choice leads to different endings. It just works. But that's just the beginning. Here's where Opel gets really crazy. I asked it to make an app that explains any topic in simple terms for a 12-year-old. Then ask one quiz question. N would need multiple notes, API calls to AI models. Complex data handling, form building, at least 3 hours of work. Opel built it in 30 seconds. You type any topic, explains it like you're 12, then gives you a quiz. Now, it did have some bugs. The quiz got stuck sometimes, but remember, this tool is 3 weeks old. N has been around for 6 years. Here's the test that blew my mind. I asked both to generate a mini crossword with five words and clue definitions. Not n forget about it. You'd need to integrate multiple APIs, build a custom interface, handle word placement logic. We're talking days of development. Opal 40 seconds working crossword. Now, it wasn't playable like a real crossword, but it generated everything correctly. For something built in 40 seconds, that's insane. But wait, it gets crazier. I asked for an app that takes my daily habits like meditate, read, exercise, then writes an upbeat progress message. NA10 would need input forms, text processing nodes, AI model integration, custom output formatting, at least an hour of setup. Opel, 25 seconds working app. You list your habits. It cheers you on. Pretty basic, but it works. Now, here's where Opel absolutely destroys N. And I mean destroys. I asked it to let users describe a fantasy character's appearance and backstory, then generate a custom illustrated character profile, and quiz them with multiple choice law questions. This is impossible in N without serious custom development. You need image generation APIs, complex delta structures, quiz logic, profile templates. We're talking weeks of work. Opal 90 seconds. You describe your character. It generates an actual image of them, creates a full backstory, then quizzes you on the law with multiple choice questions. I couldn't believe it worked. But then I tested something even crazier. I asked it to produce a short AI animated video from a oneline prompt. 3 to 5 seconds in storyboard style revealing a funny scene. Nmp impossible. You can't generate videos in n without external services and massive setup. Opal. I gave it this prompt. A wizard is in the middle of casting a powerful spell in a dark forest, but instead of summoning a dragon, he accidentally

conjures a giant rubber duck. 60 seconds later, full video with sound, good quality. It was like using Google's V3, but totally free. I tried another one. A crew of aliens trying to cook human food for their Earth ambassador. They think Mac and cheese is short for machine activated cheese and build a robot that shoots molten cheddar everywhere. The ambassador walks in, slips on the cheese, and shouts. Another working video with sound effects, funny animations, perfect quality. One more. Frankenstein works in HR. The mummy is in it, but keeps unraveling every time he answers the phone. The werewolf only shows up on full moons and keeps howling at Slack notifications. Meanwhile, Dracula runs the coffee machine, but only makes blood orange lattes. Again, perfect video with sound. This is impossible in N, but Opel does it in under a minute. Let me test the image generation more. I asked for an app where users pick three traits like wings, fire, breath, loyalty, then craft a fantastical creature profile with appearance, habitat, and a quiz asking which creature matches your play style. N8 would need complex conditional logic, image generation setup, quiz builders, profile templates, hours of work, Opal, 70 seconds. You pick your traits. It generates the creature image, creates the full profile, builds the quiz, everything works. Another image test, usernames, two adjectives like curious and stealthy. The app creates two pet character profiles with avatar sketches and traits. Then a mini choice game asking which pet to adopt. N would need dual image generation, profile systems, game logic, choice handling, complex stuff. Opal, 50 seconds. You give two adjectives. It creates two coup pets with images. Shows their traits. Lets you choose which to adopt. It's actually fun to use. Here's my favorite test. User names two dance moves or styles. Generate a mini video showing stick figure animations in both styles. Then ask the user to vote for the winner. This is impossible in N without massive custom development. Opal. I typed salsa and sambber. It generated a video with stickman dancing sambber and a couple in shadows dancing salsa. Then let me vote for the winner. took 65 seconds total and it was hilarious. So, after 10 tests, here's what I found. Opel won every single one, not just one, dominated. But here's what's really crazy. The speed. Every app took under 90 seconds to build. Most took under 60 seconds. In N, you'd need hours or days for the same results. Now, let's be fair. N has advantages. It's more mature, more stable, better for complex business workflows, better integration with databases, better for enterprise use. But for rapid prototyping, for creative apps, for AI powered tools, Opel destroys it. And remember, Opel is free. N costs $20 minimum per month. For small businesses and solo creators, that's a big difference. Here's what I think is happening. Google is making a play for the no code market. They see how successful tools like N, Zapia, and Make have become. So, they're using their massive AI advantage to leaprog everyone. Think about it. Google has the best AI models, the best infrastructure, unlimited resources. They can offer this for free because they want market share. But here's the thing. Opel is still experimental. It's only available in the US. It's in beta. Things break sometimes. The quiz app I tested got stuck. Some features don't work perfectly. N8 is battle tested. It's been used by over 230,000 people. It handles enterprise workloads. It's reliable. So, which one should you use? Here's my take. If you're a developer, or agency building complex workflows for clients, stick with NAN for now. It's more reliable, more features, better for production use. But if you're a creator, marketer, or entrepreneur who wants to build AI apps fast, try Opel. It's free, it's fast, and it can do things n simply can't. My prediction, within 6 months, Opel will have millions of users. Google will add more features, fix the bugs, and eventually charge for premium features. But right now, while it's free, this is the best time to jump in and start building.
