Canva Video 2.0

Hey everyone, I'm Jamie and welcome back. Have  you heard? Camo just dropped a massive update to   their video editor. It's called Video 2. 0 and  it's a gamecher for anyone wanting to create   professionallook videos without the headache of  complex software. Whether you're making social   media content, quick explainers, or just want  to tell a story, Canva Video 2. 0 promises to   make it easier than ever. And today I'm going to  walk you through everything you need to know to   get started to edit your first video and even  show you some of the powerful new AI tricks. So what exactly is Canva 2. 0? Think of it as  a huge upgrade to Canvas already popular video   editor, making it more powerful, more intuitive,  and packed with new features that used to require   much more expensive software. It's part of  Canvas's new creative operating system. Why   should you care? Well, especially as a beginner  because it means now you can edit multiple clips   like a pro with a new timeline that looks familiar  to advanced editors. Use AI to instantly create   videos with their new magic video feature. But  full disclosure, it's brand new and there's a   few quirks we'll talk about, too, so you're  fully prepared. Let's get logged in. I'll put
1:08

Accessing Canva Video 2.0

the link to Canva down below in the description.   I'm going to get logged in with my Canva account,   which is a paid for account, but I just want to  point out if you're using a free account, you're   going to be able to use many of the video editing  features that I show you today. I'll point out   the differences where they are between the paid  and free versions. I'm going to go ahead and get   logged in. Now, if you are a teacher, make sure  you sign up for an education account because you   can get access to all the pro features that I'm  going to be showing you. Now, you can see Canva   does a lot of different things, but I'm just going  to be focused on creating video and showing you   how to edit it in this video. So, I'm going to go  ahead and click video, and it'll give you a quick   idea of what you can create. Now, we can create  videos that go directly for in the mobile aspect,   uh, 1080 by 1920. You can see Instagram stories,  and I can go on. I'm going to show you just from   a basic video, 1920x 1080, and show you how  everything works. But you can adjust the aspect   ratio uh in the future ones when you create your  videos. So, I'm going to go ahead and select this   and I'm going to go now and start showing you how  I can bring in my own media clips or use Canvas   media that they have built into this. Let's start  by uploading some media. So, what I mean by that
2:24

Uploading video to Canva

is uploading videos or pictures or audio files.   And I'm just going to go over on the left and you   see where it says uploads? I'm going to click on  it and it opens up. Right now I can see any images   I've uploaded. If I go to videos I've uploaded  here some of my kids hockey games and there's   different folders that you can get organized in.   So if I want to upload a file, I can go ahead   and just click upload and then I can go find the  folder that I want on my computer and select the   file. So over here on the side I have this media  folder and you can see there's different things   in it. I can drag things over to Canva as well.   So, this right here, if I drag it and drop it,   it will get uploaded to here. So, very easy ways  to get things uploaded. What I'm going to do now   is take these things right here and upload them  to Canva. So, I can grab multiple ones here and   I'll finish up uploading and then I'll show you  another way you can get video clips if you don't   have any. So, you can start editing and practicing  the things I show you right away. So now you   can see I've uploaded a couple of pictures  and anytime you hover over these pictures,   notice that you can download them or I can move  them to the trash or move them somewhere else. I   have these videos that I uploaded. I have audio  files that I uploaded. And you can preview any   of these as well. So if I go ahead and hit play, I  can listen to it what so I know which one it is. I   can hit pause. And I'm going to go to folders real  quickly and create a folder. And I'm just going to   call this dogs cuz this will be the theme that  I will be working with. And we can see we have   this folder. Let me show you how you can add some  videos to this folder that we can use from Canva.
4:02

Using Canva stock media

So I'm going to go to elements here and I'm going  to do a search and I'm just going to look for dogs   because that's going to be my theme. So I'll hit  enter. And inside the elements, these could be   graphics like these ones. It could be videos like  photos or even audio. So   if I click on this, you can hear the dogs barking.   and we can use them right from here. I could drag   them into the tracks and start editing, but  I'm going to show you that in a moment. So,   let's say we go to see all for the video. And  I want to point out wherever we see a crown,   this is going to be a premium video. So, you  you wouldn't be able to use this nonwatermark.    You'd have to have the right Canva plan  for that. So, whenever you see the crown,   that's how you're going to tell the differences  between what you can use in the free account. Now,   if I want this uh for later and I maybe find  it, I can organize this in the folder. So,   look at this. I can add to folder. Where do I want  it? I'm going to put it into the dogs folder. So,   I can do this a few different times. If I go to  this one, I can add this to the dog folders. So,   I could do my searching and have everything  organized. And I can do this with audio and images   and put them all in that folder. I'm going to go  back to uploads and under videos I'm going to take
5:14

Ordering clips in your timeline

one of the ones I've uploaded from my computer  and I'll just take this first one here. It's 14. 6   seconds. You can see I'm getting a little preview  when I hover over it. I just need to drag it into   place. Now remember, we are working online and  if you have larger clips, sometimes this can be   a little bit laggy when working and this could be  a deal breaker for a lot of people. Uh if you want   things to always just go uh super fast, then you  might want to take a look at a different editor   that you can work directly on your computer with.   So I have the scrubber over here. Notice as I uh   drag it around, it can go forward and in reverse.   Uh the spinning here sometimes, like I said,   that can last a little bit longer. If I hit play,  it does a little bit of a preview here of what   I'm having. So the whole idea with video editing  would be just dragging more videos into place. So,   if I go to my uh folders and maybe I want to take  one of these dog ones I have and this five second   clip, I can drag this in. So, now I have two  different video clips. I haven't done any editing.    All I'm doing is putting them in place. So, even  if I have a picture, if I go back to my images now   and go and grab this one, I can grab uh an image  and put it wherever I want. Notice I can change   the order. So, if I click and drag and drop,  I can change the order of these very easy. So,   you're going to be taking your clips and telling  the story in the order that you want. Another   way you could do this, and I'm just going to give  this a little bit more room. I'm going to collapse   this, is to directly add right in between. Notice  you can add a media or blank uh slide right in   between. So, if I click on this, I could go ahead  and go blank. And then I have this place where I   could add things after. If you go Z, you can undo.   But I can also directly add more stock videos   or stock photos or uploads. So if I go to stock  videos and I was doing again the search for dogs,   I could go ahead and find a video from here and  then just drag it over to where I would like as   well. So just different ways you could get your  media in here. Now let's talk a little bit about   editing the clip. So, we can either trim it or  split it. I'm going to go ahead and delete some
7:34

Trimming and splitting clips in Canva 2.0

of these other clips here. So, I'm going to click  on this. I can hit delete on my keyboard or I can   rightclick and you're going to see that there's  a delete here. Or if I click on this one, there's   a delete up here. Multiple ways that you can do  this. Now, if I want to make this clip shorter,   I could trim it. I could trim it from the  beginning or the end. So, if I go and hover   and when I get my double-headed arrow here, I can  click and hold on my mouse and drag it in. So,   I'm trimming from the beginning and you can  see how the time changes. Now, this is only   9 seconds and I can do this from both ends. So,  if you want to remove from the beginning or the   ending ending, you can just simply drag. And  don't worry if you think you've overtrimmed it,   you can click and hold and you can put it back  from both ways and you're going to see. So,   don't be worried about overtrimming. You can uh  play with it to get it just right. Now, the other   thing you might want to do is take something  out in the middle. Maybe there's a mistake in   the middle or something you want to delete. What  I can do is I can go up top and hit split. So,   notice now it's in two pieces. I could even change  the order if I wanted by dragging them around. Or   I could click again and notice that split is also  here. Or I could just click S. So, if you want to   get faster at it, use those shortcuts. So, now I  have this clip right here, and I could go ahead   and delete it. And you'll notice that it will  jump from one to the other. I'll just hit play,   and it does a little bit of a jump here. So, those  are different ways you can trim your clips. Now,   I want to show you what makes 2. 0 so much better.   And I'm going to go back to my uploads, and I'm
9:09

Using layers in Canva 2.0

going to grab, let's say, in dogs. I'll grab this  one right here. I can drag this and I'm going to   drop it on top. Now I could drag it like I showed  you after, but I can also drag it on top. I'm just   going to collapse this. So notice now I'll bring  it back to the beginning. You can see I have two   videos playing at once. If I go ahead and click  on this, I can size this. I can move this around.    I can even rotate it. And I still have these two  videos playing at once. I can go back and I'll go   back to my uploads again. And I'll go to my videos  this time. Uh let's say I'll just grab this one.    So like before, I could just drag it after.   But I can also take this one and drag it up   and place it on top. So now I have three different  videos on top of each other. I can size this one,   move it around, and place it where I want. And  I can do the same thing with pictures as well.    So if I go back to my uploads this time, I'll  grab an image. Let's grab this one. And again,   I could grab it after. Or up and  I put it over here. If I have this one selected,   notice that the handlebars are on it that I can  size this. The thing to know with a picture though   is I can stretch a picture for as long as I want.   So if I wanted to play the same amount of time,   I can make it longer. You can't do that with  videos because if I go grab this, I can't grab   that with videos and stretch it because a video is  only going to be a certain length. But so with vi   with uh images and videos, you can layer them on  top of each other. Transitions can be a important
10:55

Adding transitions to your video

thing to add to videos and they can happen between  video to video or video to picture or even picture   to picture. So in this case I have video to video.   If I hover over, notice we have add transition.    If I click on it, we have all these different  transitions that we can add. So, if I go ahead   and pick circle wipe and if I hit the preview  here, there it is. Notice that we have some uh   different features that we can change in it. So,  I could say if I wanted to be a little bit slower,   I can have a direction on in or out. And I can  quickly make changes to other transitions as well.    And if you want to use the same transition for  all in between the pages, you can go ahead and   click apply to all pages. And notice now it went  to over here. So transitions are a neat way to   make your videos just much smoother. And as soon  as I click on them any time, it will open up   the transitions again and you can make changes.   I think one of Canvas's best features in video
11:58

Adding text to your video

editing is the use of their text tools. If I go  over here to text and I open up this, I can go   ahead quickly and just add a text box anywhere.   So, if I click add a text box, it goes to where   my scrubber was. And you can see here's the text  box. I can go ahead and type whatever I want in.    And so, I'll just say hello in this. And I'm going  to stretch this out. Notice, you can see how large   it gets. I can go ahead and when I have this  selected, I can make changes to this text. So,   I could go ahead and pick a color or I could bold  it and do the normal things that you could do with   text. I can make it smaller here or I could pick  a different font. Canva makes this really easy to   use. A fun thing is to use are the effects in it.   So, if I go ahead and want it maybe an outline,   uh notice that it's kind of a this color red  around the font color that's over here. So, if I   wanted that white, I can go ahead and click white  and it kind of jumps out a little bit more. I can   also increase the thickness of it. If I wanted  the font a different color, I can move up here and   change it like this. So, really easy to add text.   The other thing that you can do is move this just   like before uh with any of the video clips. If I  want this to be anywhere in here, I can place it.    Once I have this selected, I can move it around uh  where I want it to show up on this. You can even   animate your text. So, if you have it selected,  here is animate. And now I can hover over,   you can see all the different animation of it. So,  if I just pick this typewriter one, this is going   to be part of the video. And it's just so easy to  add these two. I can uh go ahead and you can see   how I can shorten or lengthen this. you have the  different options that uh anytime you rightclick   you can see what you can do with it. The other  thing I want to point out with text if I just go   down they have all the different kind of template  ones that you can edit. So if I go and just pick   this one uh time to thrive if I select it this  one is added right here. So they've already gone   through and added all the different effects to it.   But I can still go to this and type what I want   right in it. So, this can save you a lot of times.   I can still size it. You can see I can ungroup it   to edit any of the different things. So, take  advantage of how easy it is to add text to your   videos and place it anywhere that you want. All  right. So, now I've used a number of different
14:31

Working with Audio in Canva 2.0

features. I've uh trimmed my videos. I've split  them. I put them in the order I want. I have   text. I have transitions. All these things. Let's  work with some audio now. And notice at the bottom   there's audio. And this is where I'm going to add  my audio tracks. I can click here if I want. It's   going to open and I can do a search and then I can  go ahead and grab anything I find. If I go uh back   to my uploads, I had some in my audio here. I can  just simply drag it over and drop it. So, it just   it works very much like the videos. I'm just going  to collapse this. And if I hit play, now   we have audio in this video. So, I could trim  just like the videos. I could bring my scrubber to   wherever I want. I can hit split up here. Uh then  I have it in multiple clips. I can even spread   them apart and I can hit delete on them. So it  works very similar to video. A few other options   you'll notice that you have when this audio is  selected. If I look up top here, we can adjust   the volume. So if you needed it louder, uh we can  fade. So you can fade in and fade out. And this is   by going to be how many seconds it takes to fade  in or fade out at the beginning of your audio   clip. So you can make things more smooth by doing  that. We do have beat sync here. So your pages and   elements will be automatically timed to the music,  which is kind of cool. Something to play around   with. And then we have enhanced voice. Notice the  crown are on these ones. So this is going to be   a premium uh feature in here and not to be used  in the free one. Now, the other thing with audio   I want to point out, and I'm going to delete this  here. This in this clip right here. If I hit play,
16:14

Extracting audio from video

notice that there is audio in this one. And  if you're recording something, you might not   want the audio in or maybe you want just the  audio by itself. If I right click on this clip,   notice that we have extract audio. And we always  have our shortcuts here. I'm going to extract   it. And now the audio is outside of the clip. So  before it was just kind of grouped in together,   but now I have this audio outside. I can actually  move this audio to somewhere else or I can trim   it and do all those things or I can delete it if  you don't want it part of that video clip. Now I   want to show you some other adjustments you can do  to video. Let's click on this clip right here and
16:56

Making clip adjustments and filters

go to edit. So with any clips that you pick, you  can click edit and notice that we can make some   quick adjustments. If you wanted to change the  temperature, if I just drag it, how we can make   it warmer or colder from tint and even things  like brightness or contrast, you can go through   and make all these adjustments and I can reset at  the end. Now, there is auto adjust. I'm just going   to go back. We have filters that we can quickly  add. So if we go to see all and if I wanted to add   any of these filters here, I can go ahead and just  click on it and then that filter will go get added   to that clip and then I can change the intensity.   So Canva makes it really easy to make adjustments.    Now the other thing I want to show you is now this  is going to be a premium one. We have background
17:47

Removing background from a video

remover. So, if I have that clip selected and  I hit background remover, take a look at what   it does in a few seconds and I'll hit play. It  was using AI to remove the background. Normally,   this would have to be on a green screen and things  were pretty busy on this one. So, if you have a   cleaner background, it will just even make it that  much easier. But again, that's a premium one. Now,   let's use another new feature. We can make videos  with AI right inside of Canva. I'm going to go
18:18

Generating AI videos in Canva 2.0

to elements and I'm going to make sure that I'm  under generate video. You can see you can generate   images as well. I'm going to go put this prompt  in. So, it's a golden retriever puppy playing   at the park, jumping in and out of puh puddles.   And all I have to do is click this and it's going   to go through and generate that video for me. So,  that only took about 30 seconds, but here we have   our puppy jumping in and out of well, it looked  like one big puddle. If I click this, if you don't   like what you get, you can regenerate. You can let  it know if it's a good result or a bad result as   well. So, what can I do with this now? Well, just  like any of the videos that I've been showing you,   we can go ahead and click on it and it will add it  to wherever we need. So, if I want I'll collapse   this. If I want to take this and place it in  between or wherever I would like it, I now have   this AI video that was quickly created that will  match the theme that I'm working with. to retitle
19:16

Previewing and sharing your video

this file that you're working on. You can see how  it picked up the hello here. You can go ahead and   type whatever you would like and that will be the  name of that file. Now, the other thing we can do,   so we have some audio here, some all those  things that we pointed out before, we can   preview it to see how everything's looking  and everything. I can close this and we can also   notice that we can share this and this is where I  can download it as well. So I could go ahead add   people here with access. I could add the different  people or groups but this is where I can download   it to my computer and you can connect directly to  YouTube or Instagram from here. I'm just going to   talk about the download option. So I'm going to  download this as an MP4. If you drop down, you can   see all the different ways that uh in Canva that  you can download, but we want an MP4. Right now,   it's at 1080p, which is high def. Uh since I'm  in a premium account, I could go up to 4K for   this. So, depending on what type of account you  have and then all I need to do is click download,   and it's going to download that file. So,  when that file is downloaded on my computer,   I could upload this to wherever I'd like, things  like YouTube or put it somewhere to share it. So,   you have all those options. Now, if I look up top,  I have the finished file right here that I can go   ahead and preview again. But this is the actual  finished file that's downloaded to my computer.    Now, I want to point out if I go ahead and click  up top on the menu and I'm going to go to home,   you're going to see where this video I was is  working and all my other stuff in Canva. But I   can go back and if I needed to edit again, I  could keep editing. So, remember that flow.    Just go back up top uh go to home and it  brings you to the front page. If you click
21:05

Using templates in Canva 2.0

on video one more time, I just want to point  out these templates. Now you know the basics of   uh editing with Canva. These templates can save  you a lot of time. So if I was just going to   pick uh as an example this one right here, what  you're going to notice is it's going to start with   a template that I can edit. So, if I hit play,  it has audio in here, video. All I need to do is   click on any of these and I can make any changes  I want. And you can add all those other features   that I showed you throughout just starting from  scratch. I hope this gives you a great start to   start editing your video. Especially if you're  a beginner, this is a great way to start. And   I do know it can be a little laggy at times if  you're working with those big video clips. So,   there are other options out there, but let  me know of what you think with Canva with   this new upgrade. Is this something that you  would be using to edit your videos? Thanks   for watching this time on Teachers Tech. I'll see  you next week with more tech tips and tutorials.
