The BIG Problem with Old Excel Formulas

Are you tired of searching for the right Excel  formula to analyze your data? What if you could   just ask? Ask your spreadsheet a question in  plain English. Well, now you can. Microsoft   just released a game-changing new function called  Copilot that puts a powerful AI assistant right in   any cell. In the next few minutes, I'll show you  exactly what it is and how you can use it with   four simple examples. By the end of the video,  you'll be able to use AI to analyze text, generate   content, and find insights in your data with no  complex formulas required. Let's get started.

What is the New =COPILOT() AI Function?

So, what is this new function? Think of it like  having a chat with your data. You type a question   or a command in a cell and the AI gives you an  answer back in that same cell. The syntax is   super simple. It's just equals copilot. And inside  the parenthesis, it takes two things. First, your   prompt. This is your instructions written in plain  English. Second, this is optional, a reference to   the data you want the AI to look at. A quick note,  this feature is currently rolling out to Microsoft   365 insiders on the beta channel. So, if you don't  see it yet, make sure your software is up to date   and you're enrolled in the program. Okay, enough  talk. Let's see it in action. I've set up a simple

sheet here called demo data. Let's start with  the easiest possible example. First, let's see   how it works without even referencing any data.   I'm just going to go ahead and click in any spot   here and start with my equal sign and I'll start  typing co-pilot. I can see that it comes up. So,   what do I want to add? Well, I'm just going to  ask it, what are three popular productivity tips?    And this is just a general question uh and general  knowledge question. And I'm just going to go ahead   and hit enter. Notice that it does take a little  bit of time. That was quite quick, but there you   go. It gives me a list of three great tips in  the cell. The key takeaway is here. You can use   it as a mini search engine without ever leaving  Excel. Pretty cool. Okay, now let's use our own

data. Here I have a list of customer comments.   I want to know if they're positive, negative,   or neutral without having to read them all. In  the sentiment column, I'll click on B2 and type   the following. So, we start with our equals. I'll  go back to Copilot and this time I'm going to say,   what is the sentiment of this column? Remember,  don't forget your quotation marks around what   you're writing there. I'll put the comma and I'm  going to select A2. Let's close this up. Hit enter   and we get back positive. But the great thing  is I can drag this down. So if I drag this down,   you'll see it takes a little bit of time. I'll  expand the column. We have a neutral, negative,   positive. So I can tell it in the prompt, too. Do  I want a short answer? Do I want it one word? But   I like how this time it's giving me the neutral  one where I didn't really have to ask for that,   but it's analyzing those comments. This can  save you a lot of time. Next, let's generate

Example 3: Auto-Generate Creative Content & Descriptions

some creative content. I have a product list right  here, and I have some key features. I created a   brand new column, marketing description, and I'm  going to get Copelot to help me write some catchy   marketing things. So, I'm going to put in co-pilot  here again. And the prompt this time is going to   be write a short catchy product description from  these keywords. So I'll place my comma in and I   can select multiple cells. So I've selected  the range C2 to D2. And I'll close that up   again right away. Ecommug insulated, spillproof,  and made from recycled materials. Your perfect   eco-friendly companion for every sip. Well, that's  nice and quick. So let's go and just drag this   down. And just like that, we have our Cityscape  backpack, which is a stylish waterproof protection   with 15-inch laptop sleeve, urban adventures,  and stayed powered on the go. This just speeds   up things that's a lot better than what I could  have wrote, definitely in not that short amount   of time. Finally, let's see how Copilot can handle  some numbers. Now, I know this is a very small

list, but I just want to show you how it works.   I'd love to know if you guys try this on a longer   list. Let me know what the results were like. So,  I wanted to look at the salesperson and the unit   sold. And I'm going to ask it a question to find  who is the high who sold the highest units. So,   let's go to our co-pilot. We're going to go  and place in this question. Who is the top   salesperson based on the data? I'll put my comma  and I'm going to choose select my range. And let's   close this up. And the answer is Maria Garcia.   The AI read the table, understood the context,   and gave me the correct answer instantly. Now,  this is amazing for getting quick answers from   your data without extra steps. Before you go,  here are three quick tips for success. Tip one,

be clear and simple. Your prompts don't need to be  fancy. Who sold the most works just as well as a   long, complex question. Tip two, be patient.   This function is powered by the cloud, so it   can take a few seconds to think. That's totally  normal. Tip three, double check the AI. It's an   incredible tool, but it's still new. Always give  the results a quick sanity check, especially for   the important numbers. And that's it. The new  co-pilot function is a powerful and easy way   to bring AI into your everyday Excel work. We  learned how to analyze text, generate content,   and get quick insights from your data. Let me  know in the comments how you plan to use this   function. Thanks for watching this time. I'll see  you next week with more tech tips and tutorials.
