Intro: The Skills That Built 8-Figure Wealth

In this video, I'm going to share with you the top 10 highinccome skills of the wealthy and successful. I'm going to save you over $250,000 of what I paid to learn with my business coach over 13 years these exact high income skills. So, let's get right into it with the number one highinccome skill that you need to master, communication. People

Skill 1

judge us by the way we speak and most of us are not speaking with great intention. We're using abstract, unclear language, and we're speaking often times in violent ways. I don't mean like I hate you, I want to kill you, but violent in that we're prejudging, we're pre-diagnosing, and we're making a lot of assumptions. What I mean instead, and what I want you to do in terms of developing your communication skills as a highincome individual, is to learn how to speak clearly, to enunciate your words, to speak in a calm, slow, and deliberate way so that you can be more persuasive so that when you say something, people lean in instead of roll their eyes. You also need to master objective, nonviolent expression and communication. Strip out all the opinions and try to talk about things for the way they are, not the way that you might see them. Do this especially when you're under pressure. This is when it's most difficult to do. It's just not what you say, it's how you say it. The tone, the intentionality behind the words actually carry more meaning than the words itself. The number two skill

Skill 2

of highincome individuals is the ability to listen. People do this the wrong way by listening to respond to try to get their word in the to come back the rebuttal instead of listening to understand. It takes a lot of energy actually to listen to what the words mean and the way it's being delivered and to watch the body language of the person who's saying it because there are three tiers of how you need to listen so that you can process and understand. The reason why listening is so important is because when you feel like someone's really listening to you, it starts to develop feelings of trust and likability. also because often times people don't say what they really mean. So it's your job to listen to surface the deeper motivations or to resolve conflicting things. Now here's something I've learned recently. The body lives in reality where the mind lives in fantasy sometimes or imagination. The body cannot lie. So often times you'll see something like this and this he happened recently. Somebody will say yes. They'll shake their head and they'll say yes. What do you think their real intention is? It means that the body is saying, "I don't want to do this. I feel uncomfortable. Something about this doesn't sit right. " But because they're feeling like they need to be polite, they say, "Yes. Would you be interested in diving deeper in a sales conversation with me? " And they were like, "Yes. " So, you need to be able to read that, interpret that, and pause just for a minute and say, "I I sense just a little hesitation. Can we talk about why you might not want to move forward? " And then they'll tell you something super valuable. And then you can address their concerns or pain points right then and there. So, your ability to read between the lines, the subtext is an edge that you're going to have as a leader. I can't emphasize this enough. This skill is important in every aspect of your life. Not just in sales and marketing, not just in running a group meeting, but in your interpersonal relationships. I learned this many years ago that everybody wants to be loved, but love is such an abstract concept. And the doctor who broke this down, he says, "Love is basically understand me and appreciate me. " So, if you can have half that equation just to understand someone, they're going to feel the sense of being loved. And if you're trying to build relationships for a networking thing, if you're trying to get selected for a public speaking thing or to close a potential client, that's going to do a lot of work for you just by them feeling like you understand me. Hey, if you're enjoying this video, and I'm not just saying this as fluff because my team has told me over 51% of you are not

Skill 3

I'm not talking about some esoteric thing or like, oh, I'm going to cry when you cry. That's kind of important, but that's not what we're talking about here. Now, often times people mistake empathy as when somebody's going through an emotional moment that then you make it about your emotional moment, like you're reliving your pain, your trauma, and you direct the attention away from the other person. A lot of people do this. They think that's the expression of empathy. But true empathy is to understand what that other person needs in that moment in time. And sometimes they need you to be stoic. resolved or resolute or they might need a shoulder to cry at and not for you to go and have your own triggered moment yourself. Empathy is a skill of the 21st century because it makes people feel seen, heard, and understood and is essential for building real connection and loyalty. Empathy turns emotional intelligence into influence. Let's ground this whole concept a little bit here. Many years ago, my friend Mo, who helps me to write and produce these episodes, he was like, "Chris, you have this ability during a sales process to speak from your heart. You make people feel like you really care. What's your secret, bro? " I said, "Mo, you're not going to like this answer. It's because I actually really care. " And he's like, "Bro, I'm not faking it. I really do care about people. " So, when somebody's showing me they're having a bad day or they're anxious about this offer or they can't afford this, I want to pause. I need to put my own needs to make money or to be liked or to be popular or to be right aside and say, you know, what's this person going through right now? And this communicates, this translates through this lens. Some of you will feel that you're like, you know, I feel like you're speaking to my soul right now. It's because I genuinely care and believe in the things that I'm saying. This is most evident if you were ever to see me or meet me in person like when I'm on stage and you ask a question and I don't just fire back an answer and I ask you what would be helpful for you right now? What are you going through? What are the options that you're considering? All those tie back to some of the other skills that we've been talking about. One is about asking, but the other is about listening. The person just wants to be seen and heard. So before we go to jumping to any kind of conclusions, before we prescribe any kind of advice, let's make sure we understand and feel what they're feeling

Skill 4

and understand what it is they're looking for. The next high income skill that you need to master is the ability to ask great questions. We're stacking this. I hope you're following the logic here. Okay, so you're listening, you're understanding, you're feeling what they're feeling, you understand what their needs are, and if you think you have an idea as to what they're feeling, instead of making a statement, ask a question instead. This is the thing. This is the most important skill when it relates to sales. The ability to ask highquality questions because when you do, you give the other person an opportunity to reflect and surface deeper insights, motivations, concerns, fears, whatever it is, you need to be able to ask those kind of questions because it helps you to shift the conversation from surface level to something much more transformational. Higher quality questions is greater than higher quality answers. I promise you this, questions are greater than answers. Some of you are sitting there thinking, uh, yeah, genius ask great questions. What are you talking about? There's two types of questions. One question is leading where the answer seems to be yes or no, or it seems to be motivated by some kind of agenda that you have, like, would you like to eat pasta or pizza? Well, you're not giving me a lot of options here, and maybe I don't want any carbs. So, those are leading questions that are binary that have an agenda baked into it. The other kind of question is an abstract question which is how are you feeling today? Well, I don't know how I'm feeling, but I don't know where this is going. People will get stuck in asking super abstract questions or they're asking leading binary questions. The magic is somewhere in the middle. It's not an exact science, but you're trying to ask a question that gives them direction versus just making it anything is possible. An example of that would be, "What's motivating our conversation today? " The next highinccome skill is

Skill 5

influence. And this is a lifelong pursuit. So don't fool yourself in thinking this is something you can learn overnight. I'm going to narrow in on influence right now into a specific area and how it could lead to personal and business growth. Influence is your ability to enroll people into your ideas. You have a vision, but if you don't have the ability to influence people, no one's going to help you to build this vision. This could mean hiring great people or it could mean getting someone to invest in your ideas like financially speaking or to get permission from your partner like your life partner, your spouse to be able to say, "Yes, I believe in this. I support you. Let's go all in on this. " And with the advent of media or social media, we can do this both online and in person to be able to use content to tell stories to create thought leadership so that we can enroll people in these ideas at scale. Influence equals trust, clarity, and consistency. And if you want to dive deeper into influence, a great resource to refer to is a book by Robert Calaldini. It's called Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion. Now, jumping

Skill 6

from influence to our next high income skill, coaching, especially as it relates to leadership, team building, and business growth. Coaching or teaching is about developing others. Your ability to spot talent is really important. And then after you spot the talent to be able to draw out people's potential. This is really important that you are able to create safe space for them to grow and to guide without controlling them. Coaches help other people self-discover solutions. It's your ability to ask them questions so that they can solve it for themselves so that you empower them to be creative and to think and to have the independence to do things in the best interest of the company. And this is going to have a long-term impact over short-term direction. And a great resource if you want a deeper dive on this is Michael Bang Staner's book, The Coaching Habit, a bestseller. Hey, you know the drill.

Skill 7

Comment on which one has been the most impactful to you and I'll do a deeper dive. And the next high income skill is decisiveness. The ability to make clear, concise decisions. You've all been stuck in this when you're looking at all the possible options looking for guarantees. This is a form of paralysis by analysis. What you want to be able to do is to make quick, confident decisions over overthinking because there's no such thing as a perfect plan. Action creates momentum. You activate big mo big momentum and inaction kills it. You have to learn to trust your instincts because you know what? No one ever has all the information they need. So, you're going to just have to adapt and improvise as needed. And Australian author and nurse Bronny Wear talks about this in her book, The Regrets of the Dying. That people wish they had the courage to live the life true to themselves and not the lives that others wanted for them. That they had not worked so hard that they had the courage to express their feelings. All of these have the same theme, not taking action on aspirations. Take action everybody. The next high income skill is grit and discipline.

Skill 8

There's a favorite quote that I have from Mike Tyson. He said something like this that discipline is doing things that you hate but doing it like you love it. And so there are times in which things are going to be really difficult that we're in the darkness. The level underneath the water of the iceberg where no one sees the invisible work that no one cares about. But our ability to persevere to get up after we've fallen is what high income people have. Doing the things that you don't like as if you like that and doing it again and again after you failed. There's a great book on this. The title of the book gives you the entire idea. It's called fail, fail again, fail better. So, it's not that we're trying to avoid failure, but we embrace failure as a part of doing big new things, a part of our necessary growth. So, just remember

Skill 9

this. Consistency over time beats raw talent. And to achieve consistency, you're going to need both grit and discipline to make it happen. The next high income skill is to break the rules. Now, we're all educated in a system that teaches us to follow the rules, to paint within the lines, to raise your hand before we speak, and whoever has the best answer wins, and to memorize things versus to learn and apply new things, that there's only one correct way versus many ways to do something. And so, we carry these rules with us into everything that we do. Let me make this concrete for you. I used to teach a design class, and my students would fall into the same trap. Every time I'd give them an assignment, I would show them, "But you could do this. " And their minds would be blown. And then they would say eventually, but I thought we could not do that. I said to them, who told you can't do that? And they would pause and look around. It's like, well, can somebody say like, who's the they? They said you can't do that. And they can never name any specific person or even a group. It's just we inherit these rules that we think define reality. And just like Neil in the Matrix, that's not air that you're breathing. So, what you need to do is to be able to challenge norms and conventions, redefine what's possible, and forget that there's actually any rules. This vision will allow you to break conventional thinking. And here's a great quote from Sally Hogs Head. Different is better than better. So, be

Skill 10

different when everyone is trying to be better. All right, congratulations. You made it to the end. The last high income skill is seeking intrinsic motivation internally versus exttrinsic drive, which is from others. We know what's happening in social media right now. It's a super toxic environment because we're living for likes, shares, and followers. This is a prime example of extrinsic motivation. You're pretty much showing up online to make other people happy when inside you could be the most miserable, depressed person in the world. Let's flip this idea around. Let's figure out what it is that matters to you. What your deeper motivations are that by the end of your life, what are you going to do with your life to put a dent in the universe to make a positive impact on people's lives? This is the internal motivation that's going to drive you past those dark nights when there seems like there's no reward for doing what you do. And this will happen long after all the exttrinsic motivation fades. This internal purpose, this clarity of your vision will sustain you for those dark moments when you really need it. And in my opinion, true wealth is built by those driven by meaning, not just the pursuit of money. When I was growing up, I would ask my friends like, "What do you do? " and they would pretty much without failure say I'm going to be rich. So their pursuit of money, the ironic thing is they never actually achieved any of that because they weren't driven by some deeper passion. And here I am some kind of weird art kid who's like I want to make designs. I like these logos that I see on shirts and patches and things like that. I love graphics on skateboards. And so I was thinking I'm going to be a total loser in my life. I'm barely going to have enough money to pay rent and just afford a living. when it turns out I've actually made a great living because I've been able to pursue something that I'm that's just burning inside my soul and I've taken that passion for design and moved it into education to help people just like you with content just like this. So the internal game determines how long you're able to stay in it. So let's work on that. A great

Final Thoughts & Next Steps

book to really dive into this deeper especially because it pertains to business is Simon Synynic's book the infinite game. Now, your ability to apply, cultivate, and strengthen these core skills will transform you and your business. But you have to know where to properly apply these skills in your business.
