Intro

With so many AI tools popping up, it's  hard to know what's safe or even useful   for the classroom. But now, Google just made  the choice easy. Gemini for Education is   here. It's free. It's built for teaching,  and it's made to protect your students. Hey everyone, Jamie here from Teacher's Tech. If  you've been exploring AI but not sure what's safe   or useful for your classroom, you're in the right  place. Today I'm going to show you how Gemini for   Education works right inside Google Classroom  and how it can help you plan, differentiate,   and support students fast, smart, and securely.   Gemini for Education is Google's new AI assistant

Using AI Prompts in Google Classroom

for classroom use. Let's start with the fastest  way to use Gemini. AI prompts built directly   into Google Classroom. Inside Classroom, you'll  find a new Gemini tab just for teachers, giving   you access to over 30 AI powered tools. These  aren't clunky add-ons. They're fully integrated   into your existing workflow. You can use Gemini to  plan entire lessons, translate classrooms, create   rubric materials, adapt content for different  reading levels, generate feedback, draft parent   communication, and so much more. Let me show you  exactly how it works with a few examples. I want

Quickly creating detailed lessons plans with assessments

to show you how fast you can get started with a  lesson plan with this right here. So, I'm going   to click on it and I'm going to say grade seven.   We'll keep it as general. And I'm going to make   this about science lesson plan on ecosystem with  activities and an assessment. If I have material   in my Google Drive, I can upload it and it will  add context to when it gets created. I'm going to   go ahead and click learning objectives. Now, you  can see how quickly it gets the suggested learning   objectives. I can go through and edit any of  these. So, I can add my own or edit any of these   ones or I could regenerate the learning objectives  if I don't like them. This is what I like right   here. Describe your class. The more detailed, the  better. So, here's an example. I'm going to say   the class has 28 students with diverse learning  needs, including ELLs and students with learning   disabilities. They're uh they have access to  Chromebooks, enjoy hands-on techbased learning,   and are interested in environmental issues  include visual supports and differentiated task.    I'm going to click this generate lesson plan  and you're going to see in under about 20   seconds this will have the draft ready. Now  you can regenerate any of these just like the   suggested outcomes before but here we go. We have  this grade seven lesson plan on ecosystem with   activities. We have the overview here materials  needed. It looks like it's going to be hands-on.    I can see and has the Chromebooks involved in  it. I like how they do this right here. are the   common misconceptions and these are based on the  different activities that are here. You can see   in activity one the misconceptions students may  categorize dead organic matter incorrectly. So   they're just preparing you for what students might  uh might have their misconceptions on. We have our   different activities. I'm going to scroll down. We  even have an assessment with a exit ticket. Now,   at this point, I can use Gemini to even uh so  if I wanted to add more teacher uh facilitation   instructions to each activity, if I just click on  it and send it, and Gemini will rewrite this. But   I'm going to move down a little bit more. I like  this right here, find relevant video sources. So,   if I click on this, it's going to go and search  for video sources and give the links in the   documents for the students. So, I could take  a look at any of these right here. You can see   all the different ones. If I find ones I like,  I can go ahead and click it. And this is going   to be added when I export it. Now, I could create  more hooks, generate a quiz from it as well. So,   if I click generate a quiz, I could go through  um generate questions. I could change this to   let's say 10 questions here. What do I want?   I could say multiple choice, short answer,   true or false, and generate the questions. Now,  this will show me the questions here. And if you   like the questions on it, you can uh go ahead and  export this. So, if I click export, I can export   right to Google Forms. So, you're going to have  this created in Google Forms. I'm just going to   go back to I'm not going to save the quiz on this  one, but what I'm going to do at this point, uh   I'm going to export this to Google Docs. And so,  it takes all this information here. And remember,   I could assign it in Google Classroom after and  it puts it into Google Docs right here. And at the   end, you can see we have the video sources that I  checked in those. So everything on this document,

Re-leveling Text for Student Needs

let's say we have students where we need to  rele text. There's a quick option now with   Google Classroom with Gemini. I have it checked  under all and I could find it this way. What I   like to do is just to use these categories up top.   I'm going to go to supported students and we have   rele text right here. So I'm going to click on  this one and I'm going to give it some text here   about the ecosystems that same topic. I'm going  to set the target grade or I could just make it   simpler. But let's say I want to turn this into  meds grade 4. Now is there keywords that I want   to keep in this? Well, I want to make sure I keep  uh ecosystems photosynthe photosynthesis and food   chain inside here. You can see how I can go up  to the 9,000 characters here. I'm going to go   ahead and generate this. And I like the side  by side that it's going to give me. It shows   me the adjusted words in green over here. And the  keywords are still in here. I can still see that   there's ecosystems here, uh, photosynthesis. So,  I can see that they're keeping those words in,   but they're adjusting these other ones simpler.   Now, if you like uh what you have here,   you can notice that you can export to docs or add  to class. So, if I add to class, I would go and   pick the class that I uh would want it and I can  add it and you could pick that specific student   or I could just export to Docs. And I like it when  we go right into Google Docs with that just that

Creating Rubrics with AI

one click. Let's do a few more quick examples.   Let's go to assessments and create a rubric.    In this case right here, I'll make it for my grade  seven. Uh performance levels. I'll do four. Upload   assignments. Well, I'm going to use the one right  here that we just created today. Right, this one   here. So, we'll add the assignment. Describe the  knowledge and skills and everything that I would   like. Well, I'm going to say demonstrate  understandings of the ecosystem components   and food chain. You can kind of see what I'm  writing right there. I'm going to go ahead and   generate the criteria. So, in a hurry, we have our  suggested rubric criteria. I'm going to go and uh   generate just like before. I can edit these right  here. We'll go generate the rubric. And again,   the amount of time saving that this does. So,  right now, I have this rubric that if I like it,   I can go ahead and export it right away. I'm just  going to drop down. You can see the information   that it was given. I can regenerate the rubric as  well right here. But I could go up top, export to   Google Docs, add to class, and I'm going to have  this rubrics, put into Google Docs that I'll have,   and you can see how it's nice and neat in Google  Docs. Everything's fitting and formatting. Well,

Drafting Parent Emails

let's use Gemini now to draft a letter  to guardians. I'm going to select support   students. And you're going to see we have  this right here. Draft an email to guardians.    Whenever I see this symbol on these different  prompts, these are going to bring me right to   Gemini outside of Google Classroom. So, I'm  going to click on this one. You're going to   see that it gives some information already right  here about the letter. Now, the thing that you'll   want to do is add more information so it can  get uh specifics about the student and it gives   you some help. You know, the student's name and  grade level. This is where I can put it into the   prompt. So let's say in this case here, write a  positive update email to Ella Thompson's parents,   grade seven. Let them know she's showing  great leadership and understanding in science,   especially during the unit on ecosystems. Mention  how she helped her group understand and producers   and consumers. So you get the idea. I'm giving  a lot of information. So now when I send this,   it's going to update this. If you're have if you  haven't used Gemini a lot, this is in Canvas over   here. And what I like about Canvas, you can go  through and edit in here. So, it's sort of like   Google Docs that you can edit uh anything in  here before you export it. So, if I wanted to   write something, you can see how I can do that or  I can go through and change anything. But here I   have the information. So, I gave it uh I could add  even some more information if I wanted it to have   it at the end. But I have this nice short concise  letter. Now, with any of this, I can click share   and export. I can export to Google Docs and just  like before I'm going to have that information in   Google Docs. I could then send it in an email or  however I'd like to share it with those parents.    Gemini is already available in Google Classroom.   So if your school uses Workspace for Education,   you can try it out today. No extra setup needed.   If you want a full breakdown of Notebook LM for   students or how to create custom gems, hit that  subscribe button. I'll have walkthroughs coming   soon. Let me know in the comments how you're  planning to use Gemini in your classroom.
