that 80 of interviewers find thank you notes helpful in making hiring decisions of which 87 prefer email over a phone call yet only 24 of job Seekers remember to send follow-up emails but you know on this channel we never settle for less so here are the top three tips for you to stand out even among the 24 I already

Point to something specific

mentioned the first tip is to remember something specific to bring up in your follow-up note but what's the best way to go about this you have two big opportunities during the interview first when the interview begins and there's a bit of small talk if it's a Monday or Tuesday ask them how their weekend went if it's a Wednesday through Friday ask them what they have planned in the coming weekend either way they share something a bit personal you can bring up in your thank you note what if they jump right into questions instead no problem at the end of the end interview make sure to ask my favorite question as a candidate if you think about a recent hire you enjoy working with what characteristics did they have this kills two birds with one stone the question shows you are a self-starter and in order to answer the hiring manager is forced to think of a specific person and give a concrete example just what you need for that follow-up email wise being specific so important just imagine if you receive these two connection requests on LinkedIn hey really enjoyed your presentation today let's connect or hey I really enjoyed the presentation on how to run better meetings the par purpose agenda result formula is simple yet effective we'll definitely be trying this out let's connect which one are you more likely to accept I'm insecure and I need more followers so I would probably accept both but you get my point and before you ask yes I do have a template email for you and I've linked it down below in fact this is one of the thank you emails I sent when I was interviewing for my current job Hey Arthur thanks so much for taking the time to interview me yesterday day especially during a business trip to Singapore I hope you get some time this weekend to visit those whiskey bars you mentioned specific and personal I really enjoyed learning about the SMB business and in particular how your sales team identifies sustainable businesses to acquire I could tell Arthur was very proud of this when he was talking about it sneaky overachiever I'd like to re-emphasize my interest in this position and believe my get things done attitude would be a great fit for the team I mentioned this because he talked about how his team acts quickly on ideas Pro tip inject a little bit of Personality into your subject line you can go with a safe option of Jeff sue your name thank you or in one of my interviews the webcam broke so I had Jeff sue the candidate with a frozen screen as a subject line for that one let me know if you're stuck writing your post interview email and maybe I can

number three is what I like to call Pleasant persistence or put another way be a little Shameless you might hear a lot of different opinions around when to send a thank you email and the rule of thumb is to send it within 24 hours of the interview if you don't hear back right away don't worry and stick to the recruiter's timeline if they told you one week and one week later you still haven't heard back send a follow-up in my experience three follow-ups one week apart after that initial thank you note seems to be the limit before it starts to get a little Annoying Pro tip a lot of people miss this but use the same email thread when sending follow-ups and try your best to mention a different detail each time to show just how much attention you are paying during the
