Adult Learning (Self-Learning)

be lazy about learning is what i call adult learning where in other words self learning the most successful the most influential people in the world the one thing that they all keep talking about is how important it is to keep learning new things in an interview bill gates says that he spends most of his time learning new things reading books and just thinking about stuff and the people who learn about business these are the people who are starting those side hustles making those multiple streams of income or even just going full entrepreneur self-learning where adult learning is really important school learning has these fixed deadlines it has a community of students who are all learning together it has fixed syllabus it has people who can help you out it has allocated times for learning specifically but in adult learning all of this disappears i'm sure many of you guys have experienced this before you go online you decide that you want to learn python because it's a really important skill or you want to learn more about investing and finance because you know that's also important so you purchase that course get super excited you know start working on it a little bit but then the weekday rolls around and you say that you will do this after work but something always comes up doesn't it before long it's just sitting there in the graveyard of other courses that you have also not completed and is just sitting there shaming you don't be so hard on yourself i was like this for so many years i wasted thousands of dollars like actually thousands of dollars buying online courses that i never finished we take so for granted all of the structure and the resources that we had in school but now it's up to you have to design and plan your own study plans you need to be able to carve out time throughout your day and throughout your week to dedicate yourself to self-study you also need to seek out resources if you get stuck and hold yourself accountable in some way it's not a natural thing and it took me years and years of experimenting and failing to develop a five-step framework that has helped me consistently self-study and it actually worked unbelievably well after i figured it out which by the way is still going on you can check out the study with tina youtube channel below seriously though learn to adult learn i promise you it will change the trajectory of your entire life the second thing that you should not be lazy about learning in your 20s and your 30s is how to walk off

Leaving the Beaten Path

the beaten road and do things even though you are terrified to death i would say that there's four distinct times in my life where i have very much walked off the beaten path at least compared to my peers the first one is when i applied to this entrepreneur program the second time is when i started my own startup the third time is when i learned to code and got a job that used that skill and the fourth time is when i started this youtube channel the first two were absolute miserable failures like to the point where i couldn't even think about it without cringing for months and months afterwards but the last two i genuinely can say changed my life learning to code even though i had a pre-med pharmacology background allowed me to get that first bioinformatics job and that led me to doing my cs masters experimenting in software engineering and finally becoming a data scientist in tech this youtube channel started with me filming with only my phone being absolutely terrified and now it's grown to 300k subscribers thank you guys so much we also have a community of 9 000 people on discord from this youtube channel i have gotten to experience things and gotten opportunities that i honestly never could have even dreamed of i've met so many people i've learned new ideas i was able to inspire other people and have other people inspire me as well and i built up this business income stream which i could never even have dreamt of almost two years ago when i started not gonna sugarcoat it there's gonna be times when you fail and it's gonna hurt it's gonna really hurt and make you feel really embarrassed but the ones that work out is just so worth it the skill you see is to be absolutely scared shitless but to do it anyway a caveat though that i do have to point out is that there's a big difference between rashly irresponsible decisions and calculated risk what i do is what i call tiny calculated risk although tbh is still really scary for example when i was doing that entrepreneur program the risk was that i would be risking a summer doing that program as opposed to doing more research really trying to get more clinical experience for getting into med school for this youtube channel it started off as a side hustle it was just trading some of that time i could be watching anime for example and doing a youtube channel and stuff and for the job in bioinformatics i got that job first before jumping into doing computer science completely this skill of being absolutely terrified but still doing things it can completely change the trajectory of your life so that you can accomplish things that you never thought imaginable also when you're younger you're able to have a higher risk tolerance and the cause of failure is much smaller the next thing that

Your Health

you should really not be lazy about in your 20s and your 30s is your health seriously don't be like me oh my god like literally my neck is in constant pain because i completely neglected my posture i just like contorted my body into really bad positions and i didn't care at all and now it's come back to bite me in the ass and i don't even want to think about how much it's gonna hurt when i reach my 30s and my 40s and it's so cliche when people say like you don't appreciate things until you lose it but in this case seriously i have so much regret so when you're in your 20s and your 30s you are at peak health so please do take care of yourself and don't let yourself disintegrate in addition to your physical health though emotional and mental health is just as important i've had really bad anxiety problems in the past and i didn't realize how bad it was and how much it was affecting my productivity like my entire life and just like my general well-being until i finally managed to get better control over it really the key to your physical and your mental emotional health is to establish these habits early which today's sponsor is a game changer that can help you do that thank you fabulous for sponsoring today's video i'm sure you do know that building habits is super important but it can also be so hard so this is where fabulous comes in fabulous is the number one self-care app to help you build better habits and achieve your goals fabulous is like a digital coach that uses behavioral science to develop great habits that will enable you to live the life you want through positive reinforcement if you've watched this channel for a while i am sure you know how much i love using environmental design and like taking advantage of my people-pleasing needs in order to get myself to build good habits and to do things in general by mixing in positive enforcement it makes it even more powerful and it makes it more likely to develop these good habits and make them stick fabulous has two approaches the first one is habit tracking where you can pick among more than 100 recommended habits or create your own the second one is dedicated programs which is what i chose the behavioral change programs are designed specifically to help you achieve your well-being goals my biggest goal right now is to learn to be more mindful so the app guided me on a journey towards that starting with the tiny habit of drinking water it's all about these small steps that eventually lead to these big long lasting changes i've really enjoyed using families because it's really important to me that they use science back techniques and the art and the storytelling is just really cute and really good the notification's and reminders are also really well timed which is a problem that i have with a lot of self-care apps i also really like that fabulous gets that flexibility is extremely important in building habits with fabulous premium you can build and improve an unlimited number of habits into your routine and take part in all programs and exercises start building your ideal daily routine the first 100 people who click on this link over here will get 25 off a fabulous subscription thanks again to fabulous for sponsoring today's video all right back to the video the next thing that you really

Your Finances

shouldn't be lazy about is your finances personal finance like budgeting investing credit cards mortgages how debt works at least in north america at the age of 17 18 you're supposed to make a decision if you're gonna go to college and which college to go to and potentially put you in debt in which you have to pay off for like the next 10 20 30 years you can get a credit card at like what 18 or 19 years old and you could potentially be paying off your credit card debts for a really long time because you don't understand how that works apparently it's okay to have teenagers up their life for like the next few decades not to mention things like how to budget how to invest so that you can get your money working for you and how to diversify risk so that you're not like yoloing all your life savings into gme or something like that not financial advice i have to be honest with you guys though when i was younger i have made some pretty dumb financial mistakes and for the longest time i had this like irrational fear of looking at my bank account statements like my credit card statements and my checking account statements and my savings account statements like i would do that thing where ostriches put their heads in the sand and just pretend that the issues around them don't exist like that was me but i was obviously still really anxious and how much is left in the bank account eighteen dollars and four cents whoa still a lot left over i am very grateful to my mom who intervened and taught me a lot more about finances so i didn't go and ruin a lot of my life so thank you mom if you're watching this video basically the tldr version is that for some reason the mistakes the financial mistakes that you made at a really young age can literally haunt you for decades on the flip side though if you make good financial decisions it can put you way ahead of the curve and the sooner that you do this the better it is there are so many good resources out there like free resources youtube videos podcasts blog articles that are really high quality really useful and they're completely free in my opinion personal finance can be really complex but just learning the basics can take you really far and can make a huge difference on your life some of my favorite youtube channels because youtube is where i like to learn about personal finance um is sorel more finance as well as investing with rose really helped me get over that inertia and fear of how complex finance appeared to be she's really good at explaining things in very simple terms and sorel is absolutely amazing she links together finance and what that means for freedom and for me it really clicked for me why it is that finances are so important like what you can achieve if you get your finances in check the next thing

Reading Books

that you should really not be lazy about is building the habit of reading books of all the things that i have spent money on that i have invested in books by far have the highest return on investment these super successful knowledgeable famous people they put all their knowledge their insights and their experiences and you can buy all of that for like 20 that is so worth it i know that some people ask like why do i need to read books i could just you know read articles watch youtube videos but i do have to say books still hold so much value because there's some things that is really difficult to express fully in shorter types of content and you do really need to read books in order to learn and internalize these things i generally am reading we're like listening to two to three books at any given time and my pace is usually one book per week i definitely read a lot of new books but i do have books that i kind of consider my treasures and even if i read them multiple times they really keep on changing and influencing my life my biggest tip here is to start small and develop a habit what i started doing is i had a kindle and i would develop that habit of reading for like 10 20 minutes before bed i was really consistent about it and the kindle actually helped me go to sleep easier as well over time i started expanding that system so i would still even now i still read before bed but i also listen to audiobooks throughout the day i do want to shamelessly plug my newsletter here but seriously i think it could be helpful if you're trying to get back into reading again i covered the books that i'm reading per week and i share some of that insights i think it could help spark some curiosity and hopefully ease your way into reading again so start small but really pick up that habit of reading books it will pay off huge i promise all right that is all i have for you guys today let me know in the comments below which of these skills habits that you think you need to pick up and if you have any additional suggestions let me know alright i will see you guys in the next video where livestream you
