Life updates

The more things change, the more they stay the same. It's that time again to relocate. And this time, I'm heading back to Seoul for a few months where I'll continue my solo journey building and growing my apps. And over the past few weeks, I've spent all of my time trying to speedrun my startup. So, let me show you what's changed in my app since my last video, as well as what's next when it comes to actually marketing my app. Looking at my app now and

App updates

comparing it to just a few weeks ago, it's like I'm looking at a completely different product. So, let me walk you through some of the smaller but impactful changes I've made before I show you a unique feature I built that I believe doesn't exist anywhere else. First up, I migrated to a new domain. The main reason being it removes any risk of having YouTube's trademark tied to my app, which could be a legal headache down the line. And yes, I know it's a silly mistake that I could have avoided if I just gave my app name some more thought when I started. But the good thing is the new domain is still short, simple, and memorable, whilst being meaningful to what my app actually does. And as a bonus, it doesn't tie my app to just one platform anymore, which means I can expand features across to other platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram in the future. I also made some major improvements to my landing page. Since this is literally the first thing a customer sees when they hit your site, you need to nail the messaging and immediately express the value of your app. So, what did I change and why? Previously, I did what most people probably do for the landing pages. I just described what my app does and listed out all of its main features. And don't get me wrong, this approach isn't bad, but it just doesn't give customers an immediate reason to try or buy your app. So instead, I shifted to explaining the benefits of my app and the value customers could expect to receive. Here's an example. My headline now says, "Stop wasting hours watching YouTube. " Compare that to my original headline. You can immediately see the difference in messaging and value proposition. One of them just tells you what it does, and the other tells you why you need it. And I also added an interactive demo in the hero section so users can immediately get a feel for the app and what they're paying for. This removes that barrier of uncertainty and hopefully helps users make a decision faster and boost conversions. And speaking of landing pages, I recently shared over 10 high-quality templates for the members inside my new community, Startup Club. It's a place for solo makers who want to learn how to build and grow profitable apps and receive direct personalized feedback when they need it. Whether you need help validating your app idea, choosing the right tech stack, or figuring out the best marketing strategy, the community and I will help you get unstuck and allow you to move faster. You also get exclusive access to resources that saves you days of work like landing page templates, app boiler plates, and more. You can catch me inside the server every day answering your questions and offering advice. The reason I created Startup Club was to provide the community and resources I wish I had when I started my solo journey. So, if you want to join us, check out the first link in the description, and I'll see you inside. Now, let's move on to what took up most of my time to build, but it's arguably the most useful feature of my app. First, I implemented an AI chat feature for YouTube transcripts, which allows users to chat with any video to get quick summaries or useful insights. And why would you want this? Let's say you're watching a 3-hour podcast and you want to jump and listen to specific topics. Instead of wasting time scrubbing through the entire video, you can just ask the chatbot and get a summary. Or maybe you're studying educational content and need bullet points of the key concepts without having to rewatch everything. And yes, I'm aware there are already tons of apps and browser extensions that do this. So, I added a unique feature to try and differentiate my app from my competitors. In my chatbot, the LLM references specific timestamps in the video in its response so you can jump straight to that moment in the video to verify the information or dive deeper into the topic. Most people don't question someone who's in a bad mood. Like, I'm just So, it's like, well, if you can be in a bad mood for no reason, it's like, you might as well be in a good mood for no reason cuz that one at least serves you. And so, I've been trying to. And honestly, this AI feature was something I built just to get my feet wet working with modern LLMs because it really helped me when I moved on to building the next core feature in my app, and that's the ability to chat with not just a single video, but entire YouTube channels and their whole library of videos. Imagine being able to chat with your favorite YouTubers about anything and get accurate information referenced directly from their videos. Now, I wish implementing this was just as simple as wrapping it in a prompt and calling it a day. But the technical side was actually pretty challenging and took me a few weeks of tinkering to get working because what I had to build out was called a custom rag pipeline. In its current state, users can start chatting with any YouTube channel and the LLM will reference relevant videos from that channel in its response. Personally, I've been using this a lot for extracting information from channels I watch regularly, like the Y Combinator channel, for example. When I have questions about my startups, instead of searching through the entire library and skimming through multiple videos, I just ask my app. It gives me a detailed summary with references to the exact videos it used. It's super useful when I just need accurate information fast. They say, "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. " That's kind of how I felt when I made the decision to switch to a subscription pricing model for my app because generally I prefer to stick with onetime payments when possible because it's simple, it generates revenue faster and honestly it's what I would prefer as a customer because it's one less subscription to worry about. But given my app now has to account for extra costs from LLM providers, keeping the previous creditbased pricing model doesn't make much sense anymore. That said, I still wanted to keep my pricing as simple as possible. So here's what I did. There's only one paid tier and all paid users will get unlimited usage for AI chats and bulk transcript extractions. Then all they have to do is decide whether they want to subscribe to a weekly or a monthly plan. So what's

next? Well, I could keep building more features that I think might be useful or I could do the next logical thing and actually market the app to get more users. And honestly, the app is in a good state right now, and I don't want to touch it anymore until I get direct feedback from real paying users. So, I have two main strategies for marketing my app. First, I want to boost my website's SEO performance. SEO stands for search engine optimization, and it's the process of optimizing your website to rank higher in search engine results. Why is this important? Well, the higher you rank, the more organic traffic you get to your website. And with more and more people asking their questions to LLMs, there's now even more incentive to rank highly in search results because the AI will most likely reference the top web search results in their answers. But the thing is, improving SEO isn't an overnight task. It requires upfront work to optimize your website and create content that actually ranks well. But here are some simple things you can do to get started to improve SEO for your own websites. First, brainstorm a list of keywords to target. These will be the terms your potential customers are using when they search for your app. For example, keywords I would be targeting for my app. YouTube AI chatbot, YouTube transcripts, YouTube summaries, you get the idea. Then you need to create useful content based on those keywords. This can be done through blog posts or articles that answer specific questions your customers are asking. And on the technical side, you just need to make sure your site loads quickly and is mobile friendly. This is to let search engines know your site is optimized and not lowquality. My second marketing strategy is to create content on social media. This is a no-brainer because it doesn't cost me anything. I already have experience creating content and has the best chance for outsiz returns if something goes viral. If you want to keep up with my progress as I continue to build and grow this app from these early stages, feel free to subscribe and I'll see you in the next one. Bye-bye.
