Intro

Gemini 2. 5 might be the biggest and coolest Gemini update yet. With the larger context window, upgraded ways to handle different media, and a whole new action plan, it might just beat Chad GBT. But really, none of that means much if you don't know how to use all these features. So, in this video, I will show you how to use each new option and share 30 tips and tricks to get the most out of Gemini. Open your Gemini and follow along. It is Natalie with you. Let's dive
0:30

What’s new?

in. First, just so it's clear, I'm definitely not an AI. Could an AI do this? Didn't think so. Now, this Gemini update brings three big improvements you will notice right away. One, smarter problem solving and reasoning. By reasoning, I mean real step-by-step thinking. The 2. 5 model is the first Gemini version to use chain of thought reasoning. It breaks a problem into smaller tasks, works through each part, then solves the whole thing. Two, improved coding and debugging. Gemini wasn't really focused on coding before, but now it's kind of awesome. I'm no developer, but I will show you a few things it can do, and you will see what I mean. Three, improved memory. Gemini can now pull information from your search history and past chats. Basically like chat GPT except it's Google. On top of that, there are a bunch of smaller improvements too. Better image generation, canvas mode, deep research, and more. There is a lot for you to

explore. In Gemini 2. 5, reasoning is always on. When you ask tricky question, Gemini silently breaks it down into smaller steps, solves each part, then gives you the final answer. You might not see this hidden steps, but you will notice how the answers are more organized and easier to follow. You do not need to do anything fancy or say, "Please reason. " But if you want to be extra sure, you can add reason about in your prompt. And if you want to see how it got the answer, just ask. For example, say, "Can you explain how you arrived at that answer? " And it will often show you the steps. This is great for understanding or checking its

logic. By clicking on the paperclip icon here, you can upload images, PDFs, or other files for Gemini to check out. You can attach documents like PDFs or Word files or code files, and they will show up in the chat. It also works with images, audio, and videos, which gives you a ton of freedom and a real edge over any Chad GPT user. Speaking of PDFs, pick one up in Geek Academy. Maybe this guide to cloud prompting or something on image generation in Dolly. We've also got curated tool collections with the best AI tools for every need. And if you want a specific tool, use our AI tool finder to find the right one. When it comes to Gemini, thanks to a huge 1 million token context window that is around 1,500 pages, Gemini can handle large documents or data sets. This means you can have it read through a long report, a full book chapter, or even logs and code all at once. After you upload a file, just mention it in your prompt and Gemini will pull information from it. Here is an easy sample prompt. I have attached a file, summarize it, and share the key points. Plain language is best, but be clear about what you want. Summarizing is definitely a key feature for any AI nowadays. And there is no better place to use summaries than in your notes. Seriously, my own notes can get so messy sometimes, especially with all these meetings and Zoom calls. It is total chaos and I can barely follow what is going on. But for a while now, Nata has been helping me keep everything organized and stay on top of my tasks. Not is the sponsor of today's video, an AI notetaker that allows me to record, transcribe, and summarize voice conversations into clear text I can actually use. It automatically captures everything I say during online meetings, in person chats or brainstorming sessions. Right after a call ends, I get detailed transcript of the entire conversation. The best part is how accurate the transcription is. I have avoided losing so many great ideas or action items just by having that record. And instead of scrolling through hours of text, I can generate a short summary in seconds that pulls out the main tasks, decisions, and follow-ups. Plus, its AI chat feature is a gamecher. If I need a detail from a past meeting, I can ask Na and it will calm through my transcripts to find exactly what I'm looking for. This alone has saved me tons of time when I'm prepping projects updates or looking for vital notes hidden in a sea of meetings. On top of that, not supports realtime transcription and translation, which is super helpful if you work with global teams. I can see live subtitles during a meeting and if someone speaks another language, Nata will translate it for me. And the best part, Nata is free to start. Check the link in the description and see for yourself. This is not something Gemini can

do. Gemini 2. 5 Pro has built-in web browsing so it can pull current information and sources from the internet when needed. Plus, it has the newest knowledge cutoff among AI models. January 2025. Though the search feature runs by default, it is still smart to tell Gemini to search the web. word your question so it knows you need upto-date information or literally say check the web. That way you will get answers that combine what Geminis's learned with fresh data. For example, what are the latest developments in renewable energy this week? Please include any recent stats or

news. Also, don't forget to connect apps. Go to settings, then apps. You'll find the whole Google suite, sheets, dogs, drive, and so on. There is also flights for travel, hotels for places to stay, maps for directions, and YouTube for videos. Each toggle unlocks more data and more ways for Gemini to help. I suggest turning them all on if you want all these features

available. When you need information in a specific format, let Gemini know right away. Whether it is an outline, a table, JSON, or bullet points, Gemini can shape its answer exactly how you want. This is super helpful if you need to organize data or content. For example, this prompt. Also, remember, you can give follow-up directions if the first answer isn't perfect. Gemini takes your feedback and updates its response. This iterative prompting can really improve your results. And don't forget to break big tasks into smaller steps. Each step has its own clear prompt and you use one answer as the starting point for the next. It is like building a chain of instructions that guide Gemini towards your final goal. While Gemini can handle large jobs, too much at once can cause confusion. Splitting things up keeps Gemini focused and often gives better

answers. You can set roles or styles in your prompt to get more targeted answers. For instance, tell Gemini to act as a teacher, a strict editor, or an expert in a certain field. It will adjust its tone and level of detail to match that role, which can make the output more interesting or more precise. This is especially handy for creative writing or for clear explanations. Do it like this. You're a personal fitness coach, and I'm total beginner. explain a simple 4-week workout plan in a super encouraging upbeat

tone. Gemini 2. 5 Pro also remembers a whole lot because it has a massive context window. You can have very long chats or share a bunch of background information without losing earlier details. That means you can go back and forth many times refining ideas as you go. You can go deep into a topic, then refer to something you said 20 messages ago, Gemini still knows what you're talking about. For example, here are my notes on chapter 1 to 5 of my novel. Later, after a few messages, ask this. Memory is a powerful feature, and Gemini seems even better at using it than Chad

Prompting Tip 8

GPT. Be specific when you ask for code. Gemini 2. 5 Pro does a great job at coding tasks and has gotten much better at generating and adjusting code. To use it like a pro, be clear about what you want. Mention the language, what the code should do, or the format you need. The clearer your instructions, the better the code Gemini produces. It can write whole many apps or just help with a single function. That said, Gemini isn't the top AI for coding. We have covered better coding tools in one of our posts on Geek Academy. Look under tools collection to find that post and other curated lists. And don't forget our AI tool finder. That is just one of the useful tools we provide. Want to create images? Head over to the AI art studio and start generating. We're also adding video lessons to our new in-depth generative AI course. It is your perfect starting point if you want an AI 101. On top of that, there is an option to voice chat with the virtual AI master or grab special deals on the best AI tools. We're building academy into your go-to place for learning AI. prompt. If you have code that is not working or could be improved, just share it and ask for help. For example, Gemini can debug errors, suggest optimizations, or refactor your code to make it clearer. It is good at spotting mistakes or performance issues you might overlook. And thanks to its huge context window, you can paste and upload big chunks of code or multiple files and ask Gemini to check them out. Gemini 2. 5 can handle the entire code base and point out likely issues thanks to its long context window and better coding

logic. Gemini 2. 5 supports all major programming languages Python, JavaScript, Java, C++, Go, PHP, etc. and tasks like web development, scripting, data analysis and even UI automation. It also knows frameworks like React or Django and can write rejects, SQL queries or anything else. So don't just use it to write new code. Feel free to ask what does this code do or can you optimize this function for any code you provide. Everyone copies everyone. And now Gemini has canvas which looks a lot like chat GPT version. Below the prompt bar, select Canvas and type your prompt to start a document or coding project. Prompting in Canvas isn't any different than usual, but Canvas has unique features for you to explore. Once you enter canvas mode, the screen splits into an editor where you can write or edit text or code and the AI input output

area. First canvas tip, select and edit. In canvas, you can highlight any part of your text and prompt Gemini to refine or change it. This targeted editing is super handy for fixing one section without touching the rest. Simply select text, hit ask Gemini, and type how you want it changed, just like in JPA, Gemini will then update that part of your

document. Next up is formatting. I know it sounds dull, but stay with me. Gemini does a lot of auto formatting, titles, headings, etc. But sometimes you want to add or change something yourself. That is when you click here and choose a format for the selected text. Maybe you want a new heading or to split a long paragraph in half. A bit to the right, you will see more controls for bold, italics, lists, or bullet

points. There is also a floating menu with a quick edit options. Instead of typing make it shorter or make it more formal, you can use sliders or drop downs to tweak the tone. Casual, formal, or length, shorter, longer. Gemini applies the changes on the spot, so you can see the documents update in real time. This is awesome for trying out different writing styles or making sure the whole dog has the same voice. Another button is suggest changes, which makes Gemini analyze the text and offer improvements. You will see those suggestions on the right and you can apply them with one

click. Don't forget about the export to docs button. This is where connected apps come in. Your text with all formatting preserved opens as a Google doc. Your work in canvas isn't stuck there. You can easily move it elsewhere. If you're building a web app or designing in canvas, you can share a preview or even deploy it. You can also write code and have Gemini suggest fixes or generate new code. The live preview is awesome for HTML, CSS, JS because you can see the web page or app running right next to your code while you

work. So, how can you use Gemini 2. 5 Pro for free? It is simple. Just open Gemini, go to model selector, and switch to 2. 5 Pro experimental. That's all there is to it. In a surprising move, Google decided to roll out their best mode to all free users with full reasoning and coding features. No feature limits. Right now, it's in a testing phase, but in a few weeks or months, it will replace the 2. 0 model and lose the experimental label. Audio overview is a new Gemini

feature, and it's pretty unusual. You never really know when it's active and getting it to show up can be tricky. Basically, Gemini can take written text like a document or article and turn it into a podcast-like audio summary featuring two AI voices talking about the content. It's kind of like an AI powered podcast that discusses your text. We showed you something similar in Notebook LLM. To create an audio overview, just upload your document or slides, then click the suggestion tip that appears above the prompt bar. That is all you have to do. It's an easy way to take in information and learn. If you are on the mobile app, you can also turn any response into an audio overview. When you get an overview, you can change the playback speed, jump around, and download the file by clicking here. There is no way to swap the voices, but that is all

Image Generation Tips 1

right. When you use Gemini's image generator, be as specific as you can. Pretend you're describing a scene to an artist. Include the subject, background details, colors, and overall mood. For instance, the more detail you include, the closer the image will be to what you picture. Avoid short prompts like castle. Use your word to paint a scene.
16:17

Image Generation Tips 2

Gemini is great at mimicking different styles. So let it know the style you want. Do you want a realistic photo, a pencil sketch, a watercolor painting or maybe a 3D digital artwork? Mention it. You can even mention anime style or film noir style and it will shift the vibe accordingly.
16:43

Image Generation Tips 3

For more control over the image, talk about the perspective or composition like a director calling the shots. For example, you can say close-up headsh shot, wide shot, bird eye view or portrait orientation. Also mention focus or depth of field if it is important like blurred background or sharp subject.
17:05

Image Generation Tips 4

If you need the image for something specific like a logo or thumbnail, say so in your prompt. For example, Gemini will tailor the image for things like logo, icon, wallpaper, or YouTube thumbnail. While you can set exact dimension, mentioning the format can guide the composition. Also, let it know if you need a certain aspect ratio, square, wide, tall, or medium.
17:35

Image Generation Tips 5

Don't worry if the first attempt isn't perfect. Gemini lets you make changes step by step. Once you see the initial output, you can ask to brighten the scene, change the color scheme, or add or remove elements. Just say it in your next prompt and Gemini will produce a new image with those tweaks. This iterative process helps you quickly zero in on exactly what you want.
18:02

Deep Research Tips

The best part about Gemini's deep research is that it actually shows a research plan you can tweak. That plan is exactly what Gemini will do. You can click edit and for instance narrow down the publishing dates for its sources. Just type in your changes, submit the plan, and confirm. I prefer this approach over Chad GPT peppering me with follow-up questions. Take a look at what it did for my query. Although it took around 5 minutes to finish, so they really need to work on that. Deep research is the best for tricky questions or topics that need information from various places. So when you prompted, go broad. Ask for comparisons, analysis, or in-depth overviews. If you only need a quick fact, regular chat is faster. But for things like overview, compare, how does X affect Y over time, or what do experts say about Z, deep research is your go-to. It excels at giving well-rounded answers to big open-ended questions. It's not just about summaries. You can also ask deep research for recommendations or action plans. For instance, how to improve SEO for my blog and become a step-by-step strategy drawn from top SEO resources. You might say the most powerful Gemini feature you
19:29

GEM Tips

absolutely need to learn is gems. Think of them like custom GPTs, mini models crafted to do one job really well. Gemini does come with a few built-in gems. You can see them in Jam Manager. There is the writing editor for fixing grammar style and structure. A brainstormer that spits out creative ideas, a career guide for personal career tips, a coding partner for everything from building code to debugging, and a learning coach that breaks down tough concepts into small steps. The newest edition is Chess Champ, but you probably won't bother since you have to literally spell out the positions of each chess piece to play. If you need something more specialized, making your own is super simple. Just follow my lead. In the same gem manager, click new gem and give it a name. Unlike Chad GPT where you would type out a detailed description, here you're mostly filling in blanks. You will see a preview on the right and I suggest you test it as you go to ensure it behaves the way you want. Besides name, there are two other sections to fill in. Instructions and knowledge. Try this formula for your jam instructions. Roll plus task plus style plus algorithm plus format plus restrictions. You can shuffle these any way you like, but including all of them usually gives the best results. For example, if you want better results, add more details about audience, your preferences, or anything you want Gemini to avoid or focus on. Once you have a solid instruction, click the magic one. Gemini will upgrade your prompt, making it more detailed and precise. It builds on what you wrote. So the more details you include, the better final improvement is. After finishing instructions, move on to knowledge. Here you can add files for Gemini to use. Maybe formatting samples you like, past text you admire, or even articles for Gemini to pull data from. Researchers can use this to write articles backed by the exact data they want. Seriously, even exam prep is simpler with gems. Once that is all set, just test it, tweak if necessary, and click save. Tada! Your custom gem is ready to roll. For more prompting tips, watch our Gemini 2. 0 guide or visit G Academy for more tutorials. It was Natalie with you. Thank you for watching me and see you in the next one. Goodbye.
