Uncertainty Isn’t the Enemy—It’s the Path to Growth

Curiosity is actually a form of uncertainty. It's us being thankful for uncertainty because if you truly knew everything, there would be nothing to be curious about. So it's a form of gratitude. So in that sense, when people say that my value is curiosity, what you're actually valuing is a healthy relationship with uncertainty. But it's funny because uncertainty causes so much fear. Our condition is to fear uncertainty. But when you say I value it, that means that fundamentally if you were to remove all the conditioning, oh what's the point of this curiosity like where is it leading? Is it going to lead to wealth or status? If you remove that and you just see uncertainty as something that you're grateful for that you love the fact you don't know everything about this particular field, this particular domain, then you understand why it's a value because it's stripped away from all the other things that make it so in exttrinsically motivated. So that's a question I like to ask myself when it comes to your value system internally is what are things that are done for its own sake that you find inherently valuable that are not attached to a particular reward and understand what that is.
