the number one goal that most new YouTubers have is to actually get monetized on the channel so that they can not only create the content they love and that they want to create but they can actually get paid to create it doesn't matter whether you're trying to do this as a full-time content creator or you're just doing this as a side hustle it as a hobby and the extra change would be nice to have in this video I'm going to show you the simplest way to actually get monetized on YouTube I said simplest not easiest but growing on YouTube is much more than actually posting content and coming up with great videos and thumbnails it has a lot to do with your mindset strategy and then it has a lot to do with something I'm going to share with you at the end of the video make sure you stay around until the end because it's the one single idea that's going to simplify everything for you as far as growing on YouTube getting monetized and being successful as a content creator on the platform and to be honest the reason you're not monetized yet probably has more to do with your mindset than it actually does with your content and so the first thing I want to talk with you about as a content creator on the platform is time management and responsibility and what you have to understand is that a lot of the people who are creating videos about getting monetized on YouTube and they're claiming to have done it in a matter of days or a matter of weeks they don't have the responsibilities that you most likely have most of my viewers are in a very similar situation to me and if so that means that you have children a wife or a husband that means that you have people and you have responsibilities that require your time and attention and if that's the case you don't have all the time that younger creators have to actually create content so if you're watching this video and you're in your early 20s or you just don't have any of the responsibilities that come along with having a family then you are in the perfect position to start grow and monetize a YouTube channel and you actually have a greater probability of making this a full-time income than others but if you have the responsibilities I just named then you have to understand that your content creation has to be very intentional because the time you invest into this is time away from them and so that leads me to the second point you need to put your ego aside if you have one and you need to leverage the tools that are at your disposal to make content faster better and more frequently so if you have any aversion to using AI or any of the other great software tools on the market that help you accomplish these goals I highly suggest that you get over them because this is the direction of the market everyone is using AI not necessarily to create the videos for them but at least to help them outline the content and get a quicker and better understanding of it and like I said before this means that you need to be intentional with all of your videos let's say that over the course of your entire content creator life cycle that you are going to record 1,000 videos right what do those 1,000 videos look like what does your channel look like how many subscribers do you have when you finally say I've posted my last YouTube video I got everything I wanted out of my YouTube channel I made all the money I wanted to make I made the full impact there's nothing left for me there I'm going to spend the rest of my years doing something else what are the 1,000 videos on your channel that's the question you want to be thinking about and that's a pretty big number so let's not start there even though realistically that's where you want to start not necessarily labeling each of the videos but to have a general idea what are the videos on my channel what are the most popular videos I created over that time span but for the purposes of our video we're going to break this number down to 100 videos now let me explained why it's 100 videos and it's very simple you need 1,000 subscribers right so let's write that down 1,000 subscribers not sure if you know this but most people only subscribe to YouTube channels at a 1% conversion rate that means that for every 100 views you can expect to get one subscriber so if we did the math on 1,000 subscribers that would mean that you needed 100,000 views to get your 1,000 subscribers but getting your 1,000 subscribers is only half of getting monetized on YouTube the other half is getting your 4,000 watch hours and so if we say 4,000 hours times 60 Minutes that gives us 240,000 minutes so to look at this in a different perspective you need 240,000 minutes of watch time from 100,000 views which gives us an average of 2. 4 minutes or 2 minutes and 2 4 seconds per view So

based on this it's very safe to say that another way of looking at this to actually give you some practical metrics to go after is you need 100,000 views not 100,000 people but 100,000 views and those views need to last an average of 2 minutes and 24 seconds now based on my own YouTube analytics and some things that I've heard other YouTubers mention most people are not going to watch the full video If people see that a video is 5 minutes long they're going to try to finish it in 2 minutes if they see that a video is 10 minutes long they're going to try to finish it in four minutes and so it's my belief that the average viewer that comes to YouTube has an assumption that a lot of the information that's included is fluff and they're going to try to finish the video as quickly as they possibly can and get what they came for and so it's very important that we not include fluff in our videos but that we also try to make our content more substantial and more meaningful and so to get this average of 2 minutes and 24 seconds I'm going to suggest that your videos be no shorter than 5 minutes and no longer than 7 minutes to start off this is just at the beginning as you grow and progress you can make your videos as long as possible but I'll put a link to another video right here where I show you that I have a 12-minute video that got more watch time and more subscribers than a 1eh hour video so making a video as long as possible is not necess necessarily the best route to go you just want to make sure that every minute of that video is necessary and that once you're done no fluff cut it off in the video we assume that your first 100 videos average 1,000 views then you can expect to be monetized after you post 100 videos so does that mean you just press record and start posting as many videos as possible and then once you upload your 100th video you're going to be monetized absolutely not remember every video you create has to be intentional because you only have so much time there are only so many videos that you're going to create in your YouTube career and those videos need to be the best ones possible not just random videos because if you take the route of just creating whatever you want to create without any strategy or any thought to it because of the possibilities of those videos then you're going to be misled into a fantasy world because when it comes to Poss possibilities anything is possible but in that very idea every possibility holds equal weight because everything is possible but when it comes to probabilities outcomes have different weight and different expectations of realistically happening and so if we approach our content creation strategy with this mindset then we'll understand that some videos have more of a probability of being successful and helping us reach our goal over other video ideas that may be very enticing and attractive to record but in the end we know this has a very low probability of actually helping me be successful and so yes if you want to you can shoot the three-pointer all day but your coach is probably going to be upset with you for not taking the high percentage shots in the paint or yes you could throw a Hail Mary every time the ball is hiked but your coach is probably going to be upset with you for not taking the three yard slant across the middle and so right now I just want to coach you and say don't get tempted to try to go for the hill Marys don't get tempted with trying to go viral and get a bunch of views and instead stay focused on creating the videos that are most likely to consistently grow your channel over time now if you're a purely shorts Creator and you're trying to monetize shorts and make money from shorts then this video is probably not for you the only thing I can tell you is that you need to go VI viral a lot not only to get monetized but to even make decent money with YouTube shorts it's possible but you got to get a lot of views and you got to do it all the time whereas if you get monetized the more traditional route on YouTube you can make a substantial amount of money and even build a full-time business just by creating content that consistently grows your channel it's less stressful and just as profitable going the traditional YouTube monetization route with 4,000 hours and 1,000 subscribers with long form content and so now it's time for us to visualize what do these 100 videos actually look like if we actually created these videos because if we can get a vision of what our YouTube home screen looks like when someone visits our Channel after we're monetized and we know what those 100 videos look like not in particular but with a general idea then we have a sense of direction for the videos we should create and we also know the video we should not create

Segment 3 (10:00 - 15:00)

which is more important than knowing the videos which we should create and so by focusing on what videos we should create as well as the videos that we should not create this is going to put us in a position to where we can create targeted content and so now let's wrap this video up and let's talk about how to actually put all of this into play let's say you've got a vision of what your channel looks like when you're monetized your 100 videos are up you know the general topic that your content is around you have a general idea of the people who are watching the videos the comments they're leaving on the videos how you've been able to help them how you've entertained them how you've made them laugh you have a vision of that a very blurry vision but you have a vision of it now it's time for you to actually go out and start recording and creating those 100 videos and what it comes down to is this one simple idea that has four different elements so the idea is called framing other people call it packaging I call it framing because you're framing an idea and I like to think of it as a picture this is the picture frame a lot of times what you're going to see on YouTube is that a lot of the content overlaps or is completely identical but each video has a different frame around it and it plays a large part and how successful the video actually is now these are the four parts of framing number one is the topic when it comes to topic this is the big idea are you talking about gardening social media are you talking about YouTube are you talking about Tik Tock are you talking about kitchen wear are you talking about cooking are you talking about parenting what's the big topic and What's the total addressable Market when it comes to that topic the second thing is titling so the title of the video titling a video plays a very large part in where the video actually surfaces on YouTube there's a certain way you can title a video and it'll show up predominantly in Search and then there's another way to title videos where it forces YouTube in a certain way or YouTube prefers to surface the video and recommend it or suggestion and in brows and other places on YouTube and then after title you have the tile is basically the thumbnail right but I say tile because it's just the t- sound and this is like a second piece of real estate or a second title because sometimes people will read the first title and then the second title is the thumbnail they look at the thumbnail to see if it's telling them what the video is going to be about it's like a second piece of information if the written title didn't do the job well enough but you be the judge look at your own self and how you use thumbnails to determine whether you watch a video or not and then the last T is you got it time so how long are people actually watching the video so we have topic title tile time and so the biggest problem with these is that people like to look at these separately and the biggest problem with that is that when you look at them separately you forget that this is all part of one big idea called Framing and so what I want to do is challenge us to think about all four of these ideas in a cohesive meshed integration graded manner so we just downloaded YouTube Studio because we want to use some very practical examples from videos on our channel from lately that'll give you a very good insight into how this framing idea actually works so this is the most recent video on my YouTube channel as of the recording of this video late at night or early in the morning I think it's like 1 in the morning right now but I'm good and so this video is actually a three of 10 it has 838 views 7 % clickthrough rate 4 minutes and 55 seconds average view duration and so if we tap on the second card and we look at the views we have 838 views and So based on the 1% rule with 838 views we should have eight subscribers but we actually have a total of nine and you can see at the beginning of this video I actually lost a couple of subscribers but if we come to the reach Tab and we see that this video has 9. 3000 Impressions so that was an opportunity for this video to have 9,,000 views within the first day but we know that's not realistic but even at a 10% conversion rate that would put this video at around 90030 views and so we see that the clickthrough rate has been up and been down and it's sitting at 7% average that's very low for my channel but if we go back to the home screen and you tap on this little information right here YouTube says this video is reaching a wider audience on YouTube leading to a lower clickthrough rate than usual wider audiences are often less likely to choose to
15:00

Segment 4 (15:00 - 20:00)

watch a video but the lower clickthrough rate is not hurting this video's view count that's what it says now after I changed the thumbnail because they weren't saying that before when the video was hovering around a 6% click-through rate but you can see how the clickthrough rate is actually affecting the views and guess what it may be the title as well the YouTube algorithm is helping small creators grow fast this is the second title for this video and it's actually the second or third thumbnail if you look at the time with this video and we go to the engagement tab you can see that people are actually watching this video for 41 seconds more than usual so the actual time the actual content is great but for some reason people are not getting past the topic the title and I'm going to suggest that it's not the topic growing on YouTube is a very popular topic so it has to be the title in the thumbnail or it could be the fact that people are looking say how many subscribers does he have only 18,000 I don't want to listen to him because small YouTubers don't get a lot of respect on YouTube that's the way I see it I'm not talking about the YouTube platform but people who want to grow on YouTube they typically view the person with 100,000 or more subscribers as having more knowledge about growing on YouTube and I completely understand why but I just wanted to throw that out there as a possible reason for why people aren't watching this particular video but let's go look at a video in a different category that's more in line with the content on my channel so here's a video about Facebook monetization and I have a lot of content on my Channel about Facebook monetization this is a two of 10 1. 8 th000 views 88. 3% clickthrough rate great news people on YouTube are choosing to watch this video more than usual if we tap on the card we go to reach to see The Impressions this video has 16. 6 th000 Impressions and so because the clickthrough rate is more than usual and even though the engagement is 16 seconds less than usual we can see that the typical audience retention is more than usual in this video there's a spike right here then there's a dip but the entire video typically holds for a longer period of time 50% retention towards the end this is above typical so the video is outperforming my other videos and this is not necessarily a comparison to other channels this is a comparison to my own content and even with the introduction 78% of viewers are still watching at around the 30% Mark which is above typical and so even though the total average view duration is lower than my channel average the percentage of this video that people are watching is extremely high 61. 3% and also the likes versus dislikes is higher than my channel average 97. 9 n so it has maybe one or two dislikes on the video and all of these metrics are sending signals to YouTube that this video deserves more Impressions and so YouTube keeps promoting this video and if we look at the top sources for Impressions we see that right here 124,000 is from browse features now if you don't know browse is going to be the homepage and up next and so the video we looked at before this one was actually about how YouTube is promoting small YouTubers on the home screen and the home screen is a great place to actually get views right now but now let's look at a video that didn't perform so well and that's actually considered a failure on my channel and so if we look at this video it only has 531 views the clickthrough rate is only 5. 8% but the average view duration is 4 minutes and 2 seconds so people are still watching the video for a considerable amount of time not as long as my other videos but a modest amount of time so the content is decent I give myself a decent but the clickthrough rate is not and so if decent it's not necessarily the thumbnail it could also be the title because we've already established that this is a very hot topic and so two things that I could test that could actually turn this video around is to change the title and to change the thumbnail and I'll be honest when I created this thumbnail I knew that this was a lazy thumbnail because I was tired it was the middle of the night and I actually mentioned this in another video and this is the thumbnail that I was talking about but if I tap on this car I can see that the video held at a modest 1% conversion rate bringing in five subscribers for the 531 views so the content's decent it's the title and the thumbnail but again you have to think about all of these things as a whole so even with me putting out this video about getting monetized on YouTube that's a topic and YouTube monetization
20:00

Segment 5 (20:00 - 23:00)

is very H then there's the title for the actual video how am I actually going to title this video to pique people's interest or their curiosity or their desire maybe you just want to learn how to get monetized and then there's the thumbnail how am I going to design this so that people feel drawn to click on the actual thumbnail and lastly it's the actual content that I've created how did I actually deliver on the promise entertain my viewers and educate them at the same time so that they left the video with value and not just confused but with a simplified understanding of what needs to happen every time they upload their first 100 videos to reach those 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours or to get those 100,000 views for an average of 2 minutes and 24 seconds on those five to 7even minute videos they're going to be creating but again we don't want to think about these separately we four T's together and the reason we want to think about all four of these elements is because when you think about water no one thinks about water as hydrogen and oxygen because if they did they'd only have an incomplete picture of what water is because water actually has hydrogen oxygen but then it also has calcium and magnesium in inside of it in small traces because of where it comes from but with all four of these they're still simply water and that's the thing that we have to remember even when we have a topic a title a thumbnail and then we're trying to get people to watch for as long as possible it's all one idea of framing or packaging a video and how well you're able to do that is actually going to determine how well you're able to grow on YouTube and so if we come to YouTube and we search for how to grow a YouTube channel we can see that the first video is how to grow a YouTube channel from Zero Subs in four weeks week by- week plan right so the angle or the framing that Jay took on this video is that I'm going to show you how to start from zero and do it in four weeks that's a frame on it it's not like this video where I'm trying to give you a more realistic approach because in four weeks you're probably not going to do it but for most people it's going to take those first 100 videos just being realistic just talking about probabilities this is possibilities you can definitely monetize it in four weeks or even faster especially if you mix in shorts to get your watch time up and then if we look at the third video it's how to actually grow a YouTube channel in 2023 five simple steps so again it's a step by step plan but it's a little bit different it's about actually growing like hey this is the real deal and these are five simple steps not in detail like Jades so it's all about the same thing but it's framed and packaged differently listen I hope this video has been valuable for you and I hope that you're able to get your channel monetized go out and get those 100,000 views with an average of two minutes and 24 seconds for each of those views as quickly as possible if you have any questions let me know in the comments and as always if you got value out of video make sure you hit the like button share with a friend take care have a great day and I'll see you in the next video this video I'm going to be going over what I believe is the perfect YouTube monetization challenge to help you reach that coveted 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours and so if you're a content creator and you're interested in that make sure you check this video out but if not take care have a great day and I'll see you
