I don't know if you know this but the YouTube homepage is just like the Tik Tock for you page was a couple of years ago if you're having trouble getting discovered you're having trouble people finding out that you're even on YouTube then now's a great time for you to start posting content and we're talking all about it in this video and make sure you stay until the end because we have some proven tips from YouTube experts as to what is actually getting small creators discovered right now there is a major YouTube algorithm update that we all need to be discussing right now especially if you're a small Creator and I'm so happy and so stoked to bring you this video because I've actually been on the blessing side of this new algorithm update and I'm telling you right now from experience that it is phenomenal for small creators so if you've been struggling to get views struggling to get subscribers struggling to get your watch time up get ready to start recording your content and posting your videos and being more assistant on YouTube because I don't know how long they're going to be doing this but we do have some confirmation that something is going on at YouTube and they're helping small creators be discovered more easily I first noticed the things that I'm going to be talking about in this video about 3 weeks ago when I posted this video about why your followers never see your content and as you can see YouTube says this video is appealing to a wider audience contributing to 2. 9 times more views than usual and actually when the video was trending at the very beginning it was actually as high as 3. 5 I believe but don't let the 9. 8000 views or the 778 View hours for you and those are all Great accomplishments for a video on my channel but the real story is in the reach of the video so let's go to the reach Tab and right here you can see that this video has 113 7,000 Impressions now 113,000 Impressions is not necessarily a big deal for most creators but for a small Creator like myself to get a 100,000 Impressions and to get them within such a short time frame let me know that something different was going on about this video and I thought that maybe I just tapped into something different uh with the YouTube algorithm people have always talked about being recommended means your videos being suggested more but when you scroll down and look at the analytics you can see that only 5. 7% of the views actually come from this video being suggested and over 95% of The Impressions actually came from brows or as you can see right here recommended on the homepage and the homepage is where smaller creators are finding a lot of success right now so very quickly it's important that you know that this video was published on May 20th because this is where the story took a very interesting term if you don't know who Sean canel is then you definitely need to look him up on YouTube and subscribe to one of his many successful YouTube channels because when it comes to YouTube he is a legend he made this tweet and he said Renee Richie and Renee Richie used to be a fellow content creator make Tech videos but he got a job at YouTube and now he's a Creator liaison I've noticed lots of new and small channels being promoted on my home feed have you guys talked about this anywhere listen my video got 82% of its views over 95% of its Impressions from home feed they took the video they put it on the home feed They promoted it and gave it a chance and it did well and then they took it off after it stopped performing or getting the click through rad the watch time or whatever right we can go back and look at that later he says is this an intentional initiative one it's really cool two seems like it's a great time to start a channel it is a great time and if you already have a channel it's a great time to post your content the key scenes to be the algorithm of suggesting videos based on my express interest once I search or consume a certain topic then I get some small creat recommend it if they have created clear content related to that Niche topic accurate and Renee Richie responds by sharing this video and basically stating that the discovery team is experimenting with some things right but then this Creator all chiefed up made a comment on the post and I actually responded to their comment talking about the video I just shared with you guys and then this is what they said I just watched one of your videos the other day actually it was suggested to me on my home screen we're just really niche down and it feels like there's no traction being made so here I am on Twitter with an unoptimized account that I'm not trying to grow and I just use it to comment on content and just look at stuff on Twitter and I run into somebody who says they just saw a video of mine on the home screen now for you that may mean nothing but for me to run into an actual viewer on another platform because one of my videos reached them on the home screen and I'm pretty sure it was that particular video shows me just how much YouTube was

pushing the video to other creators so here we are on the think media Community tab 133 days ago and they asked have you noticed new and small channels being promoted on your YouTube home feed I'm going to answer yes and 68% of creators who saw this voted yes that's 68% of 3. 6 th000 votes and I want you to look at some of the comments that people say yes and I love it I thought I was seeing a small Channel because I'm a small Channel too I also get video notifications from a channel I haven't subscribed to that's something I've seen as well videos being recommended to me through notifications that I am not subscribed to listen to this Creator yes I'm so excited because if I'm getting those suggestions then my vids are being suggested to others as well I'm doing a monetization challenge right now and have been introduced to dozens of new creators doing the same especially those of us in the over 40 or over 50 crowd it's so exciting and this Creator it seems like I've been on people's feed more than usual absolutely thankful for it finally the tides are shifting and listen to this one I had my biggest daily views ever this week from a compilation of videos that independently didn't do particularly well it's rather shocking I'm a small Channel too and I'll read one more content this Creator says all the time so you can't complain that YouTube isn't giving you a fair chance listen now is the time for you to post that content I missed the last opportunity when a lot of people were getting a lot of subscribers and views and really building audiences and even though this may not be on that scale this is still a great opportunity for small creators where the algorithm is leaning in your direction and if they're testing smaller creators content on the home feed they're exposing you to people then I'm telling you it's a great time for you to upload that content the reason I'm actually recording this video tonight is actually because of a video I posted a few days ago and the video's titled this is your sign not to quit YouTube and my YouTube videos typically don't perform well and I only created the video because I wanted to encourage other smaller creators just like me it wasn't optimized for the YouTube algorithm or anything like that it was just me encouraging creators not to quit and another Creator left this comment and said another new Creator popping up on my homepage and he goes on to say some other things but this sparked my memory and I remembered how my video took off a couple of weeks ago I remember the tweet that Sean canel made I remember the comment section and I've realized that we're in the middle of a moment an opportunity to capture some momentum to get some growth and we don't know how long it's going to last so you guys remember that Renee Richie shared this video with Sean canel and instead of watching the full 10-minute video I'll just use this Chrome extension called glasp that allows you to summarize YouTube videos or practically do anything you want with the transcript of a YouTube video based on how you personally use chat GPT and what you designed it to do and so if I click the settings icon you can see that I can use chat GPT or I can use claw or mistol and can even use custom gpts and I have a custom GPT that I've already built for this specific purpose and so all I have to do is click on this chat GPT icon and it's automatically going to use the custom GPT that I provided the link for in the Chrome extension and so here is the transcript of the full 10-minute video and the GPT is going to perform the actions that I've already programmed it to do so that it's going to make light work of the video and we can quickly scan this to get some actionable insight sites and So based on this conversation between the Creator liaison and the director of growth and Discovery at YouTube we're going to learn some key insights and number one is that you should have an audience Centric approach Creator should focus on understanding and serving Their audience rather than optimizing for the algorithm is designed to match audience preferences so replacing algorithm with audience and strategic questions can lead to better content decisions so don't make the video you think they want know they want look at the comment section look at the questions look at the things they say they really enjoy and do more of it number two long-term value over instant gratification prioritize creating content that builds lasting relationships with viewers rather than chasing quick views through sensationalism long-term audience satisfaction is more beneficial to the Channel's health and growth now one particular way I can see long-term

audience satisfaction being beneficial to the Channel's growth and health is returning viewers and that's something I noticed about that particular video that did really well on the homepage that for the first couple of thousand of views there was a disproportionate size of returning viewers to that video meaning the unique viewers was a very small number and the majority of those were actually returning viewers and they kept coming back watching more of the video because the video was so long and I guess they will watch it 5 minutes at a time to try to finish it and so the third one is that YouTube uses several different signals of satisfaction likes dislikes comments retention and survey responses to gauge satisfaction and I really do believe that surveys have a lot to do with how well a video performs it's the one metric that a Creator cannot track and it's the one thing that helps YouTube keep the system on honest and so one thing they also say is that you want to make sure you optimize your video titles and descriptions to attract new viewers and one thing I can say about the title of that video that was placed on the homepage is that it was not optimized for search it was just a title on a video and the first title I placed on the video was don't quit your YouTube channel until you watch this and then I recently changed the title to this is your sign not to quit YouTube and I'm going to try to update the thumbnail to see if I can increase the clickthrough rate and find some more success but it really feels like this don't quit video is starting to see some of that same homepage success because the clickthrough rate is very low it's only 6. 8% but I can see that the Impressions got a sudden uptick and just before I started recording this video this was at 1. 1 th000 views now it's at 1. 2 and so even though the click through rate is low the video is getting far more Impressions than normal which is going to lead to higher views and Discovery and look at this once again if we come down to see where the views are coming from you can see that viewers are finding this video through YouTube recommendations that's the home and up next and right here of the 83% of people who view this video 80. 5% of them have come from the YouTube homepage 5% from notifications 3% from the subscriptions feed and remember when I told you guys that my YouTube videos never do well because most people don't want to listen to YouTube advice from somebody with less than a 100,000 subscribers and this proves it Channel page is clickthrough rate 4% suggested videos 2% clickthrough rate nobody wants to hear anything about YouTube from somebody with 18,000 subscribers they want you to have a 100 200 300 and then man everything you say is golden that's what they call social proof whether it's right or wrong they'll believe you and why shouldn't you have the benefit of the doubt if you've built the audience and then YouTube search has a 6. 4% clickthrough rate but look at this browse features 7. 3% click through rate so if I can improve the title I've changed the title and the views have gone up slightly and if I can sit down after I finish this video and improve the thumbnail maybe I can find even more success with this video so post your content don't hold back Now's the Time be prepared to optimize your titles change your thumbnails if necessary and do what needs to be done to capture this moment because it's here the YouTube homepage for you and it seems as though YouTube is using the homepage like Tik tok's for you page right now so that they can tap into that ability for people to be discovered on Tik Tok on YouTube with long form content these are long form videos I'm talking about so make sure you take advantage of this don't miss this opportunity because we don't know how long they're going to do this maybe they test it for a couple of months and then they decide that they don't want to go down this path and they do something different and you miss the opportunity to actually get some good growth some good engagement from your videos so start posting that content start creating and let's get to it let's not miss this opportunity and if you've been thinking about quitting your YouTube channel then please go and watch this video about not quitting your YouTube channel it's not an educational video it's an inspirational motivational video If you will and I'm pretty sure if you watch it you'll feel encouraged and you'll be ready to take advantage of this opportunity that we have right now and as always thank you for watching take care and I'll see you in the next video
