Segment 1 (00:00 - 01:00)

Human noise is the next frontier in AI and robotics. We can potentially just drop in human noise in the physical world that's designed for humans and made by humans. My name is Karen Lou. I'm a professor in computer science at Stanford. This is why my research matters. In the movement lab, we study intelligence that emerges through the physical interaction with the world. We combine computer graphics, robotics and biomechanics to understand the principle of human movements and then apply that principle of movements to human noise. So there are a lot of potentials for human noise but in our lab our goal is to not dictate what particular applications more important than others. It could be useful in the domestic setting, in the field setting, in factory setting. But for our lab, our goal is to build the fundamental capabilities for humanoids. Basically, a platform that's capable of manipulation, local motion, and navigation of the real world. Academia is still the best place to do humanoid research because everything we're doing here can be released immediately in terms of a code base, data sets, algorithms. Their community can really benefit from that because we need to build on each other's work.
