Behind the Scenes 2021 Drift Championship Win

every El Speedway is such a staple in drifting it's uh called the house of drift for a reason it's where P drift started now what is it 18 years ago uh they sell out every year tons of fans come in from literally around the globe it's just a party every single year 2:00 there's definitely no secrets here just this round we wanted we built some new parts like a crankshaft and rods and we just received it like a week and a half ago so we wanted to basically just check over the main bearings and rods to make sure everything is pretty preventive anness just make sure things aren't getting worn out too quick or for us to go out Saturday and blown an engine mid Saturday it'sit just easier for us to pull it out take the main caps off a rod caps off and put it back together very good I'm going be quiet for a minute while I focus come back in 10 minutes talk to you about it we're at the last round of Cora drift Irwindale Speedway this has always been the track that decides the championship we're here it's Friday qualifying day we get a little bit of a warmup and then uh straight into qualifying so get comfortable as quick as possible lay down a really good qualifying lap hopefully be somewhere in the front running maybe the top three maybe get a buy run maybe not Oh Yeah Yeahs that's good though heat to so we did move it last night out there it was like 16 like that's an art yeah yeah I don't know I've been instructed to get every gear why don't we just have everything that's me see we need it oh well you know nice to have now we need it that is not what I want ah you didn't put my 716 French back that hurt that's the jab you just put in well it got you back h here we go Frederick osbo initiates on the bank nice and high that's exactly what we expect from our turn points lead woo there we go this is how we start things off well done there it is a 95 so a 95 for Frederick osbo we were able to get it together for qual 95 points we don't know where it's going to put us yet but we're really ecstatic about that and we're ready for the battles we're at H formula D Irwindale uh one of our last practice runs Ryan got into the wall a little bit uh did some damage to the front end uh luckily it was nothing major just uh some suspension arms and a knuckle uh we got everything fixed back up did a gear change and uh we're ready for our first lap of qualifying I haven't been on the outside like C like bumper on wall until that point and it was just felt slck as uh yeah just was ready to go out for a qualifying lap um scrubbing in the front tires and uh then I had no power steering so this track is too dangerous to try to run with no power steering so we decided to uh not call our 5 minutes and now we're going to go to our second lap which is try to qualify in a bottom eight of the bracket now so uh well we

got one more lap uh another lap and we'll just see how it goes the nailbiter for Ryan uh the power steering pulley broke in first B so to Forfeit and now they're forced into the bottom of the ladder it sucks but he made it in with the gray run garbage day well I mean let's talk about it yeah I don't want to talk about it you do it later about all right so qualifying is all wrapped up today tomorrow the main event day we're going to have a couple rounds of just practice and then it goes straight into the top 32 that's when all of the uh it's one that really matters and then Matt and Chris oh that's a qualified second yeah so 2 4 68 chis Matt and Chelsea are all in the same Corner Saturday afternoon in Irwindale and we're prepping the car for tonight I did new spark plugs so I could investigate how the engine heal over the last two days and uh everything looked good there and we're playing with a strategy to potentially turn the power up so I'm looking at um maps that we've used at previous rounds and seeing the difference and where we've gone and where I don't want to go with it a day at the track for me is quite interesting I think because it starts off really slowly at the hotel sticking to myself stud studying some video eating some breakfast trying to get in you know in the zone without spending any calories uh on anything it doesn't matter so I'm just chilling chilling and boom it's go time for me it's usually just kind of trying to just being able to chill out maybe watch some uh some tape from some of the qualifying laps just do that by myself focus on that focus on the driving aspect of it and uh get ready get kind of get into that driving mindset before you're even on track start to finish here today basically sign some autographs uh suit up hit the driver's meeting and eat some food right before we hit the track and then uh we have morning warm up which is or afternoon warmup which is only about an hour and then we go right into competition top 32 and then there's no break in between like we typically half so top 32 all the way to finals can sorry how's the super B10 coming along forever Ryan oh yeah it's an OG shirt dude yeah 2007 yeah l and who wins after eight awesome thank youon finally so basically not every run but like throughout the day I'll go and download the data from the part computer kind like the BL box and what it does is it records all of the different parameters for the engine and even some suspension and I can look and sometimes we tune from that and sometimes we can uh spot a problem that might come up later and try to fix it before it becomes an issue where are we at what's going on oh man we're standing here dying nervous waiting to make our first run to hopefully pull off the championship we've been a bridesmaid one too many times so it's TI for us tired of getting hit in the face with the bouquet I want to catch it terrible anxiety but once we get our first run done

then it just keeps moving so I just kind of roll with the punches you know yeah bittersweet it's like you know all the hard season you know all that we've accomplished and then uh we come down to this you know it's a mix of emotions you know yeah time to get a break but then you know when you're doing so well you don't want to then Freddy all Freddy frd Freddy well done I mean one of the best Chase drivers in the game all of in that door uh came into the inner bank and felt a pretty good hit it was right there on my door gave him a little uh he gave me a little nudge and uh you know we carry it on and Steph said that he was a little sloppy behind us we gave him a tiny bit of space in the second run but reeled him in and eventually took the wi so that feel good that's oh they're going out now okay are you just realizing now that you're going against your teammate no no I knew that coming into today we were going up against each other going the trash watch me suit up headed into top eight we're up against Ryan and uh it's one of those things for the team it kind of sucks but at the same time it's good because it means one of us will move on uh and I think for the Run someone what's going to happen we both have so much respect for each other not just from being team um members and then teammates but from being friends for so many years we've known each other for a long time now we know that we both want to win out there fair and square and uh so let's leave it all on the line and may the best man win yeah next up is uh Freddy my teammate papak is racing Rockstar Energy uh nto tires like we have a he's a phenomenal D and he's such he's on Rails right now so uh there's no team orders you got to earn it and uh we're going to go out there and see what we can do there get in there finish it yes that is our sorry boys looks like you're putting a trailer away looks like they're tearing down the awning come um excitement we don't have a call yet so as the crew we feel like that was really good but the judges haven't made a call yet but I feel positive but sometimes we never know go boys we got it uh yeah he had a little bit better proximity and his his lead lap to mine was better so like oh 100% yeah I just I'm just glad we put up a good fight it wasn't like one of those mistake situations it was just let it all hang out have some fun we trust each other and let the better man win like I said he's been on Rails all weekend so I'm happy with the fight that I put up I would have wanted another freaking shot at it though I'll tell you what no I mean are you kidding me it's just ridiculous I watched the video this morning of the qualifying run and uh from the other day and oh my gosh I mean it's just like you just that's what you have to do with judges is sit them in their heels and give them absolutely zero option to give you anything but 100% so um that's what he's done and I'm going to talk quietly cuz I don't want to you know you don't ever want to be the commentator curse kind of a thing kicking ass he's doing his

job and it looks amazing dude we're up against bong get it's going to be another Wild Ride every round tonight has been a wild ride with this Bon is you know this his last showing I guess I think he's going to be balls to the wall but even if it wasn't he would be balls to the wall be prettyy final four right final four and if you want to be the best you got best so here we are it is Do or Die frck Oso gets the against the two-time champion Bon Jr he'll be your 2021 formula DP champion come on Freddy come on coming go on ity come on all Freddy get in there get him get him we're with him I'm with him come on ready we're there oh can I breath can I breathe yet no I don't feel good right now oh my God you got a Fu good warning on his watch cuz his heart rate's too high maybe we should it we should start running 115 beats per minute I'm standing still 115 I'm sure I've got you I'm not moving ignorance is bliss I just don't even here we are again slide him left for osbo right for Von Jr that is one for Frederick osbo if he wins he is your Champion Frederick osbo gets the win yes okay okay okay okay let's go we did it hit by the I'm not getting hit I'm get hit dude congratulations thank you guys you guys fing H competition don't bre it wi we got win love you dude great job you did your J we did hey that

guy J very a yes a lot hey we still got a race win to win yes oh man always yeah down wooo easy the I told Freddy on the radio I'm like you know thanks for you know showing us what all of the work we put into building this car can actually do on the track and you know there's very few people on Earth that can take the car are to that limit and he's one of the guys and it's wonderful to work with him we kept our cool we kept our Focus made very few mistakes throughout the season and it'll be hard to top this now we're going to celebrate for a long time and then start focusing for 2022 yes sir yes ma'am
