Yooo, what is up? I just presented a session on Purview security and after that session there was a lot of great questions regarding the Purview license. Questions, like "I already have Fabric. Do I need an additional license to start using Purview? ", Or "I have the Power BI Pro license that need to get something more to start testing Purview, and the short answer is. Yes. But it could be that you are already paying for parts of the Purview license and not really realizing that you could start taking advantage of the Purview features. So, you know what? Enough of all this talking, let's just try and grasp the Fabric licensing and Purview licensing together in this video. Now let's first talk about the Fabric licensing. So inside of Fabric, you have the user licenses. That's the Power BI Pro license, or the Premium Per User license. Now, if you are doing any development in Power BI, you would need that license to share that content with other people in the organization. Now, the other licensing mode that you have with Fabric, that's the SKUs the Fabric capacities. With the Fabric capacities, you can decide to choose a pay as you go model. Or pay upfront with a reserved capacity. Now the capacities, they are about compute power, not specific users, and you will then dedicate workspaces to that capacity. And if that workspace is F 64 or above, then the consumers of the workspace would not need an additional pro license to consume all the Power BI content. Purview, I like to divide into these two main concepts. You have the data governance stuff with the unified catalog and the data map, and then you have the security and compliance stuff with like sensitivity labels and data loss prevention and all of that. Now, these two, they have separate licensing modes just to make it super simple. Let's start with the data governance part. Now, there are two cost drivers inside of the data governance part. So when you are working with Purview, you're scanning all of your data ecosystem, right? And you're pulling in all of that metadata and then you end up with these data assets inside of your data map. You might decide to govern these assets. That is a cost driver in Purview. You are then paying for the unique number of governed data assets per day. Now the other cost component with data governance. That is the data governance processing units. So if you're running data quality or data health actions, that is gonna do some processing in the background and then you're paying for this data governance processing units, and these are gonna be on a pay as your go basis. Okay. That was the governance part. What about the security part? For these ones, we are then again looking at the licensing per user. So here you would need an E3 license. Or an E5 license. Now, for us data people, when we hear these E3 and E5 licenses, we are like, what? We usually don't work with that, but these are enterprise licenses. Many of you guys probably already have E3 and E5 licenses, not because of data governance, but because your organization uses Teams and SharePoint and Outlook and use it as a part of the office package. Now, if your company already has an E3 license, you already have access to the basic compliance stuff inside of Purview. Or if your organization already has an E5 license, you get access to all the compliance stuff inside of Purview and you have Power BI Pro licenses like bundled into that E5 package. Whoa, that was a lot of licensing stuff. Fabric licenses and Purview licenses. They are completely different. But when do you need both? If you're working with Fabric building an enterprise analytic solution, and you want to do data governance, data compliance, data security, not only for Fabric but for your entire data ecosystem, then Purview will help you achieve just that. Did you know? Have you started testing it out? Let me know when the comments below. If you got excited about Purview and curious and want to learn more, we build an end to end-to-end course on Purview data governance. Go check it out. And as always, from Adam, Patrick, and this girl right here. Thank you for watching and we will see you guys in the next video.
