They in turn give you a unique link or promo code, and every time a customer uses that unique link or promo code, you get a commission. It's that simple. And here's why podcasters have a huge advantage. Your audience, they already trust you. You spent hours in their ears and developed a community and a connection with them. So when you recommend a product or service, it feels more like a friend's recommendation rather than an ad. That trust is your currency and it's what makes affiliate marketing so powerful for podcasters. So

How Do You Find Affiliate Programs?

now that you know a little bit about affiliate marketing, how do you go about finding programs to join? Well, it's actually as simple as just googling it. Literally type in your show's niche plus affiliate program. For example, if you host a podcast about fly fishing, just type in fly fishing plus affiliate program, and you're going to find tons of brands that offer commissions on everything related to rods, reels, and gear that your listeners are already interested in. But let's talk about a few that make sense for podcasters in general. Amazon Associates. Amazon sells just about everything. This one's perfect for sharing your podcast setup. You can list your mic, your interface, your headphones, basically your entire gear list and earn a small commission anytime someone buys through your links. Niche specific brands. Look for tools, books, services that naturally come up in your podcast episodes and are related to your podcast niche. Our fly fishing example is a perfect example of this. We know our audience tunes in to hear our take on the sport. So, it makes sense that we might mention or have an affiliate relationship with certain brands related to rods, reel, and tackle that our audience is already interested in. about signing up? The great news is most of these programs are really easy to sign up for. On the company's website, look for a section called partners, affiliates, or referral program. You'll usually just fill out a short form with your name, email, and where you plan to promote their product, like your podcast, your website, or your social media accounts. Depending on the affiliate program, you may need to provide additional information such as a payout account like PayPal or your bank account, or possibly tax information. Don't worry if your download numbers aren't huge. Believe it or not, most affiliate programs are more interested in your authenticity and your podcast niche rather than having massive downloads. Now, the fun part, promoting your affiliate links. Now, you can share your affiliate links in a bunch of different ways, but let's break down a few of the ways that actually work for podcasters. Finally, with algorithms changing on a regular basis and it being harder and harder to break through the noise of other competing posts on social, it may be difficult to use social media as the primary avenue for promoting about your products or services. Think of searchworthy topics that align with them and author blogs and podcast episodes that drive the value of the products and services that you're selling to your audience. For example, we could create a blog and accompany podcast episode on the top five best fishing rods for beginners and then tie in our affiliate link related to the fishing rods that we mention.
